CA.Wine-Tasting W/ Sal Furfari & CROSSBARN Cab, BREGGO Gewurz, MARIETTA Old Vine, EARTHQUAKE Zin & BREWER CLIFTON Pinot Noir , Wed. June 16th, 2010,

Sal Furfari of Bacchus Imports was our featured guest for this California " Big-Theme " Wine-Tasting on Wednesday evening ( 5:30-8:30 PM ) of June 16th, 2010 that I asked Chris Barker to organize for me. It was a big success and we had eighty or so people show up to taste the wines, many of them pictured here in these photos.

Sal has a lot of excellent California wines available through Bacchus Imports and Chris Barker knew this quite well as he had recently worked for two years at the Georgetown location of Dean & DeLuca buying the wines and selling them, many from Bacchus Imports. He was the first person that we called and he was more than ready to come and taste his company' wines with us and our valued and loyal customers here in the Washington D.C. Cleveland Park neighborhood just two blocks away from the National Zoo.

Sal tasted five wines this evening : 1) CROSSBARN 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon ( made by winemaker Paul Hobbs , $44.99 ), 2) BREGGO Gewurztraminer 2009 ( $29.99), 3) MARIETTA Old Vines dry red blend with Zinfandel, Lot 51($14.99), 4) EARTHQUAKE 2007 Zinfandel ( $32.99), and 5) BREWER CLIFTON Pinot Noir 2008 ( $42.99).

They all showed well and also sold well. We still have some of all of them at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits ( 3423 Connecticut Avenue N.W. Washington D.C. 20008, Tel:202-363-4265 sales@clevelandparkwine.com www.clevelandparkwine.com ) as of today, July 21st, 2010. It's 10:51 AM in the morning and I am about to leave my home here in northern Virginia and drive into work shortly to sell all of these five wines and more.

Here's Sal Furfari above showing the bottle of the PREGGO Gewurztraminer 2009 ($29.99) and about to pour it for one of our customers of which we had lawyers, ballerinas, translators, extra virgin olive oil specialists, doctors, you name it? It was fun and relaxed and most people were introduced to each other and so had a chance to talk with our six reps pouring an assortment of 32 California wines.

There are already blogs I have posted on this and I still have more. It's a whole lot to cover and I want to do it well here as it becomes a visual as well as a written source of materials and inspirations I hope to want to make those looking at this want to go out to their local wine shop and buy some of all of these wines.

I will add my notes on these wines shortly but in the meantime will post this blog. Thanks Sal and Bacchus for the samples and the time as well as your expertise Sal to come and talk about the wines intelligently and with conviction. You and I go back a long time in this business and have learned quite a bit about wine and how to serve and enjoy it with family and friends and around a table spread with foods befitting of the season and some of their possible wine combinations as well. Cheers to us both as well as to all involved including all our wonderful customers here in these photos. TONY

P.S. What are your smirking about in this photo above? Is it a private joke or can you let me in on it?!? TONY

Chris Barker and Sal Furfari chat here in the picture above before the activities really get started.

Sorry Sal, got you with your eyes closed here. It's still a good picture and perhaps you are saying a silent prayer here that this earthquake Zin 2007 ( $32.99 ) will only erupt or start in our mouths and not on land? Perhaps a prayer before the tasting got started to thank our lucky stars for all that we have? I like that, I'll go with that as well as the more thoughtful and serious side of the Sal Furfari that we all know and appreciate and love ... a bientot mon ami ...
