OWNER Roger of RIPPLE RESTAURANT stopped by ...

ALL IS RIPPLING ALONG HERE in Cleveland Park, our great neighborhood ...

it's onto the december holidays , our big theme champagne & BUBBLY wine-tasting on 12/5/12 : everyone invited! Call to tell us you are coming : 202-363-4265. cheers! & More!!!!

Now that Thanksgiving, Black  Friday, Small Shop Saturday and Cyber Monday are behind us ( hope that you all got some of the " goodies " that you wanted - thanks for the great business here, too ) we can start to focus on December and all our various holidays and days to celebrate and continue to be thankful, as we should. This is all good, it's really great, in fact.

ROGER of Ripple had a petition for us to sign here as there is much more talk again on our List Serve for them changing our service road here that for many of us is our life-blood. They want to change it into a park-tree area and take a way the parking in the process.

Please respond to this store email and let us know how you feel about this and if you want anything to change in front here ? This concerns us all and so everyone should feel free to voice their opinions for or against changing anything while there is still a chance to do so.

Some of this is still going on now, our neighborhood always has activity and debate and things to decide of how to proceed forward, very much like real life!

We have another busy week here as we start to get ready for December and all the good cheer and activities here to finish this year and help us get ready to celebrate the new year of 2018. You helped us sell a whole lot of things in every category and so we are scrambling to reorder more of what we feel we most need to finish off in style and fun this 2012. Do you all have any favorites that you want us to bring back before 2013? This is your chance to let us know now while we finish our planning for this year.

WE HAVE OUR " BIG THEME " sparkling/ bubbly/ champagne / espumante/ cava/ prosecco/ cremant/ sec. demi-sec/ brut/ semi-seco/ metodo champenoise/ methode champenoise/ red, white and rose, moscato, chardonnay, pinot noir et pinot meunier , 750ml and 1.5ml and 375ml and 187 ml bottles and cans of " Sofia " to organize for your TASTING PLEASURES from all over the world including far-reaches like Bulgaria, Brazil, Mexico, Switzerland. Austria, Germany, Latvia, Greece, Hawaii and Michigan , and local sparkling apple ciders, pear cider, too from Maryland... not to mention, Moscato Mango, too from Italy. The world is the limit!

AGAIN THIS LAST PARAGRAPH i took from November 2012, as i read it and so much still applied here, really interesting.

THIS YEAR we will be heavy on tasting Italian sparkling wines, especially on the first tasting when we have Robert Kennedy and Franceen Kahng both pouring great Italian spumantes - that is nine right there with those two. Robert is bringing and sharing his wine glasses for everyone to use as that really does add to our enjoyment, it really does. Thanks - grazie Robert.

THE OTHER FIVE PEOPLE tasting on the 6th are women : Theresa Morrison, Danielle Davidowitz, Libby Edwards, Christina Thornton, and Franceen Kahng.

WE WILL HAVE sparkling wines from Greece, France, Argentina, California, Spain,  and Germany,

and for convenience and practicality we will have three of our French champagne choices available only in the half-bottle/ 375ml bottle size!

AND BECAUSE Italy has so much to offer we will have a couple that are slightly sparkling like one sweet, delicious Moscato, and one sweeter-style rose Brachetto d'Acqui , too both from the Piemonte region.

SO : Join us and start celebrating here with us before you continue later with family and friends, we hope to inspire you and add to your special time this holiday season.

THIS YEAR WE HAVE TO TOP all the other years that we have done these BIG-THEME BUBBLY Wine-Tastings. It is the biggest event/wine-tasting here of the year and more of you mention it more than any other wine-tasting that we do. You actually talk about it year-round. As a matter of fact you start talking about it almost immediately after it is done and start inquiring when the next one will be? We should do one each month as it brings so much happiness and joy to everyone and that is a great thing for us all. When is it not a good time to enjoy some sparkling wine?!? Let us know any of your thoughts.

THIS YEAR @ OUR " BIG THEME " BUBBLY Wine-Tasting ( Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 , 5:30-8:30PM call us at : 202-363-4265 to tell us you want to come, no charge for the tasting ) we will have a number of rose sparkling wines as well as champagnes. Rose has been a big deal this year in every category.

WE SELL LOTS OF ROSE wines here, both still and sparkling and so we created an area in the middle of the store for these rose wines, dry mostly. We sell them year-round, have for years, even before they became popular. They taste great year-round and as it has gotten colder Michel and I have added a number of heartier, dry rose wines from places like Greece and Spain and are still looking for more as the prices will drop on them and they will offer even greater values in this cold winter of ours that , so far, has been unseasonably warmer. Go figure!?!

I LIKED MY DRIVE THIS MORNING, especially driving through Rock Creek Parkway and then weaving a trail on up through Cathedrale Avenue with all the gorgeous changing colors of the leaves from the brightest of the yellows to the densest of the oranges, the bright toasty reds and simmering-shimmering darker ones to the matted browns and furrowed eyebrows of the trunks of the trees and the rising spires of deepened and mounting evergreens  reaching for the wispy white clouds and the baby blues in the skies high up above - /!!!9,( ----- )!!!! ''''''' YIKES -  WOW, Tatiana Maria just blew me away by walking through the front door!!!!

" Surprises surprises, I'm back in town and the first stop I've made is at Cleveland Park to see Tony, Santos, and the crew. I miss my friends!  It is important to note that good friends are never forgotten! I will always make a stop here whenever I am in Washington. "  Tatiana Maria

Tatiana used to sell us many wines here with Billington Imports that included the CATENA, COUSINO-MACUL wines and more. She , of course used to come here with her two beautiful sisters before ( Stanna & Jasmine ) and they team-up on me and bat their beautiful eyelashes and smile their dazzling smiles at Mike Martin and me with the obvious question that was being asked but never stated : " How much wine from Spain and how much Mauler Swiss bubbly can we send you as well?  " Oh, I forgot to mention the famous Portuguese wines that you sold us as well as the Spanish dry white Verdejo that was so popular with our customers for so many years! We still sell the Verdejo and buy it now from Elite Imports.
Tatiana was here with Nicolas her fiancee and they are about to get married, how exciting. He's a very lucky man indeed, Tatiana...

MORE GREAT WINES FOR THANKSGIVING :

I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE with Andrew Stover of Vino50 Selections that brings us so many of these fun and exciting wines from Arizona, Michigan, Hawaii and Idaho. He as well as Rachel Martin the owner of BOXWOOD Winery here in Middleburg, Virginia just participated in the National Wine Experience at the Newseum which featured wines from 25 states in the U.S.
Andrew Stover tasted  the following wines that were popular:
       1) " Sex " from  Laurence Mawby , Michigan sparkling dry rose of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, $20.99
       2) " Wet " from Laurence Mawby , Michigan sparkling dry 100% Pinot Grigio soft dry, $20.99.
       3) Dry red blend of Pinot Noir, Marechal Foch and Chambercin grapes make up this zippy, lively, refreshing and perfect Thanksgiving red from SHINDIG in Michigan. It sells for $17.99 and I recommend it with things like the fresh cranberry sauce. It's fun and exciting and cutting-edge.
       4) Riesling that's a touch fruity and rounded from SAWTOOTH Vineyard in Idaho is ON SALE for $10.99 and would make a great Thanksgiving wine, too.
These wines are all in-stock here and you can have them for your Thanksgiving if you wish though in some instances the wines are in short supply so call us ( 202-363-4265 ) or respond to this email.

GREAT HOLIDAY WINES WITH RED MEATS :

AND FROM RACHEL MARTIN at the BOXWOOD Winery in Middleburg, Virginia she poured at this same event with Andrew Stover the 2007 TOPIARY Red Bordeaux blend ( $28.99 ) as well as the " newly released " 2008 TOPIARY and the 2008 BOXWOOD ( also both $28.99 ). We also have the half bottles ( 375ml size, $17.99 ) for sale as well of the BOXWOOD. ALL these would be lovely with a nice cheese or two and also with some red meats as well. But then again they would also work with well-seasoned vegetarian food where they use some blue or gorganzola cheeses, or Welsh rarebit, a British dish made with British cheese, bread. Go to the " new " show called : " Two Fat Ladies " and I am sure they would have a recipe for this. The show is great by the way.

THE WINE-CLASS this past Saturday was fun because we had a surprise visit from Rachel Martin who stayed and shared her personal experiences of learning the wine business both in Napa, California and Bordeaux, France. She also shared many of her experiences about the local dining experiences in both restaurants and wine bars here in the District and in Virginia and Bethesda as well. I introduced her to Sorriso Ristorante Italiano here and she says that she will take her dad there sometime soon. Fun.
     THREE BIG SUCCESSES are :

       1) Viognier from LOREDONA Vineyards , the 2009 Lodi with lots of fruit is $10.99 a bottle.
       2) Dry red Sicilian blend of Nero D'Avola, Syrah and some Frappato, $25.99 is like a really spicy and dried-fruit voluptuous Italian Veneto Amarone-style wine. It's pretty decadent, really.
       3) Muller Thurgau dry Italian white ( $16.49 ) from PRAVIS Vineyards in the Dolomite Mountains hugging Switzerland and Austria : this smooth and flavorful and yet distinct is another great wine to enjoy with this Thanksgiving meal.       Thanks Rachel, I'm glad you could be a part of our tasting
here.
       4) AND JUST IN : We received the bone-dry , excellent ( d. ) De Blanes Muscat Sec 2008 ( $14.99 ) from France that will cut through many a taste and a flavor. It's superb and dry with great minerals and acids to cut the grease and the fat and the stronger flavors in many foods.

       1) Gamay Beaujolais Nouveau 2010 from BOUCHARD AINE & FILS, $10.99 from southern Burgundy is smooth and really bright and elegant, great toasty mild roasted berry-red cherry flavors with little or no bite.
       2) Gamay Beaujolais Nouveau 2010 from MANOIR DU CARRA ( $9.99 ) is flavorful and more toasty and pointed with more of a real spread of flavors with more highs and lows. It's an excellent food wine for the turkey or the goose, duck or other game, even smoked turkey, other smoked items like salmon and even oysters in oil! Lovely really.
