WE
HAVE LOTS OF WINE NOW as well as beer and liquor. It's been a bit crazy
s so many trucks have come by last week with their deliveries and we
did not know where to put them!
ALL IS WELL AND ACTUALLY
CALM AND SUNNY and really nice : the CALM before the STORM : it's quite
civilized and I am really enjoying " this moment ". Just got a call to
ship some Georgian TELIANI dry red Saperavi oaked ( $13.49 red label )
and unoaked ($10..9, black label ) dry red to Syracuse, New York in time
for Thanksgiving. They would actually work, especially the unoaked
Saperavi.
I WROTE the above headline & paragraph back on Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010 : time flies!

I LIKED MY DRIVE THIS
MORNING, especially driving through Rock Creek Parkway and then weaving a
trail on up through Cathedrale Avenue with all the gorgeous changing
colors of the leaves from the brightest of the yellows to the densest of
the oranges, the bright toasty reds and simmering-shimmering darker
ones to the matted browns and furrowed eyebrows of the trunks of the
trees and the rising spires of deepened and mounting evergreens
reaching for the wispy white clouds and the baby blues in the skies high
up above - /!!!9,( ----- )!!!! ''''''' YIKES - WOW, Tatiana Maria just
blew me away by walking through the front door!!!!
" Surprises surprises, I'm
back in town and the first stop I've made is at Cleveland Park to see
Tony, Santos, and the crew. I miss my friends! It is important to note
that good friends are never forgotten! I will always make a stop here
whenever I am in Washington. " Tatiana Maria
Tatiana used to sell us many wines here with Billington Imports
that included the CATENA, COUSINO-MACUL wines and more. She , of course
used to come here with her two beautiful sisters before ( Stanna &
Jasmine ) and they team-up on me and bat their beautiful eyelashes and
smile their dazzling smiles at Mike Martin and me with the obvious
question that was being asked but never stated : " How much wine from
Spain and how much Mauler Swiss bubbly can we send you as well? " Oh, I
forgot to mention the famous Portuguese wines that you sold us as well
as the Spanish dry white Verdejo that was so popular with our customers
for so many years! We still sell the Verdejo and buy it now from Elite
Imports.
Tatiana was here with
Nicolas her fiancee and they are about to get married, how exciting.
He's a very lucky man indeed, Tatiana...

MORE GREAT WINES FOR THANKSGIVING :
I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE
with Andrew Stover of Vino50 Selections that brings us so many of these
fun and exciting wines from Arizona, Michigan, Hawaii and Idaho. He as
well as Rachel Martin the owner of BOXWOOD Winery here in Middleburg,
Virginia just participated in the National Wine Experience at the
Newseum which featured wines from 25 states in the U.S.
Andrew Stover tasted the following wines that were popular:
1) " Sex " from Laurence Mawby , Michigan sparkling dry rose of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, $20.99
2) " Wet " from Laurence Mawby , Michigan sparkling dry 100% Pinot Grigio soft dry, $20.99.
3) Dry red blend of Pinot
Noir, Marechal Foch and Chambercin grapes make up this zippy, lively,
refreshing and perfect Thanksgiving red from SHINDIG in Michigan. It
sells for $17.99 and I recommend it with things like the fresh cranberry
sauce. It's fun and exciting and cutting-edge.
4) Riesling that's a
touch fruity and rounded from SAWTOOTH Vineyard in Idaho is ON SALE for
$10.99 and would make a great Thanksgiving wine, too.
These wines are all
in-stock here and you can have them for your Thanksgiving if you wish
though in some instances the wines are in short supply so call us ( 202-363-4265 ) or respond to this email.
GREAT HOLIDAY WINES WITH RED MEATS :
AND FROM RACHEL MARTIN at
the BOXWOOD Winery in Middleburg, Virginia she poured at this same
event with Andrew Stover the 2007 TOPIARY Red Bordeaux blend ( $28.99 )
as well as the " newly released " 2008 TOPIARY and the 2008 BOXWOOD (
also both $28.99 ). We also have the half bottles ( 375ml size, $17.99 )
for sale as well of the BOXWOOD. ALL these would be lovely with a nice
cheese or two and also with some red meats as well. But then again they
would also work with well-seasoned vegetarian food where they use some
blue or gorganzola cheeses, or Welsh rarebit, a British dish made with
British cheese, bread. Go to the " new " show called : " Two Fat Ladies "
and I am sure they would have a recipe for this. The show is great by
the way.
THE WINE-CLASS this past
Saturday was fun because we had a surprise visit from Rachel Martin who
stayed and shared her personal experiences of learning the wine business
both in Napa, California and Bordeaux, France. She also shared many of
her experiences about the local dining experiences in both restaurants
and wine bars here in the District and in Virginia and Bethesda as well.
I introduced her to Sorriso Ristorante Italiano here and she says that
she will take her dad there sometime soon. Fun.
THREE BIG SUCCESSES are :
1) Viognier from LOREDONA Vineyards , the 2009 Lodi with lots of fruit is $10.99 a bottle.
2) Dry red Sicilian blend
of Nero D'Avola, Syrah and some Frappato, $25.99 is like a really spicy
and dried-fruit voluptuous Italian Veneto Amarone-style wine. It's
pretty decadent, really.
3) Muller Thurgau dry
Italian white ( $16.49 ) from PRAVIS Vineyards in the Dolomite Mountains
hugging Switzerland and Austria : this smooth and flavorful and yet
distinct is another great wine to enjoy with this Thanksgiving meal.
Thanks Rachel, I'm glad you could be a part of our tasting
here.
4) AND JUST IN : We
received the bone-dry , excellent ( d. ) De Blanes Muscat Sec 2008 (
$14.99 ) from France that will cut through many a taste and a flavor.
It's superb and dry with great minerals and acids to cut the grease and
the fat and the stronger flavors in many foods.
MORE REASONS TO GIVE THANKS WITH WINE : BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU -
1) Gamay Beaujolais
Nouveau 2010 from BOUCHARD AINE & FILS, $10.99 from southern
Burgundy is smooth and really bright and elegant, great toasty mild
roasted berry-red cherry flavors with little or no bite.
2) Gamay Beaujolais
Nouveau 2010 from MANOIR DU CARRA ( $9.99 ) is flavorful and more toasty
and pointed with more of a real spread of flavors with more highs and
lows. It's an excellent food wine for the turkey or the goose, duck or
other game, even smoked turkey, other smoked items like salmon and even
oysters in oil! Lovely really.
BUT LET'S NOT FORGET THE BEER From Santos :
1) Mama's Little YELLA
Pils from OSKAR BLUES Brewing Company this American pilsner six-pack in
cans ( $8.25 six-pack 12 ounce ) is " new and exciting. Come check it

in Frankfurt, Kentucky and certified USDA Organic.
3) Rum, High-Strength El Dorado , product of Guyana ( $19.99, 750ml bottle ) " 151 " is also " new and exciting ".
