CA. Big Theme Wine-Tasting W/ Eric Platt & Kelly Bigel Tasting PROVENANCE, ROSENBLUM, JADE MOUNTAIN & CHALONE, 6/16/'10 5:30-8:30 PM @Cleveland Park

As I have already said this was a great California wine-tasting for us and everyone came and had a great time and we sold lots of California wine on this evening with the help of our wine reps like Eric Platt and Kelly Bigel that was hired just recently by Eric Platt to work for his Pinnacles House division of fine wines for Washington Wholesalers.

Kelly, you did a great job on this I believe which was your first wine-tasting working for the Pinnacle House? Is that correct? Thanks for your hard work and big smiles and engaging personality that drew people to both you and Eric and kept things moving smoothly and well. Just look at the pictures and you can see that all that I have just written is true ...

All your wines from 1) PROVENANCE ( 2008 Napa Valley-Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc, On Special for $14.49 - this has done so very well for the past two vintages here in the store! What a nice sipping wine, flavorful, round, full and great value form Napa, too ! ) ; 2) CHALONE (the 2007 Chardonnay - in the Wine Spectator's 100 Best Wines of the Year - it sure was rich and layered and multi-faceted and textured and bright and long-finished, $24.99 a bottle - and the 2006 Pinot Noir, $39.99 - another personal favorite of mine for the evening for it's elegance and flavor and balance and " style " - it had style and " presence ", too - nice job! ) ; 3) ROSENBLUM ( great everyday value for this California series - the Zinfandel Cuvee 32, $9.99 , and the Syrah 2007, $9.99 ) ; and 4) JADE MOUNTAIN ( Cabernet Sauvignon 2007, $13.49 - a personal favorite for flavor, balance and value ) : ALL SHOWED WELL on this evening.

Eric, you and Kelly poured a good price range of wines that sold mostly between $10 and $20 a bottle ( except for the CHALONE wines ) and that is important as that is still affordable to many of our customers in Cleveland Park today. We are attracting a younger and younger audience than ever before and so we are selling less-expensive wines by-and-large these days : lots of bottles more often and fewer cases. That's okay, whatever suits our customers. We are here for them, to help them satisfy their wants and their needs.

It was good to get Eric Platt that I have known for so long and worked so well with over the years to come and pour this evening with Kelly Bigel. Thanks Eric, I really do appreciate your time and energy and overall enthusiasm and professional demeanor here in Cleveland Park. It means a lot to me.

Here I have posted so many great pictures of you Kelly and I have to find those of Eric to post here as I took some good ones of you Eric also pouring. I think I already posted them in some of my other related blogs on this evening.

Sal Furfari pictured above from Bacchus Imports was also tasting the wines of CROSSBARN 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon from Paul Hobbs, BREGGO Gewurztraminer 2009, $29.99, MARIETTA Old-Vines red blend of mostly Zinfandel Lot 51, $14.99?, EARTHQUAKE Zinfandel 2007, $32.99, and BREWER CLIFTON 2008 Pinot Noir, $42.99. Thanks Sal.t like Eric, I have known you a very long time and we always refer to our earlier wholesale days when with Pandora we referred to ourselves as the Three Musketeers! So many good memories ...

Your wines also sold quite well on this evening. Read my other blogs posted here at this same time on the others pouring their wines such as Mike of Winner ( BACH HOUSE, CALISTOGA CELLARS, ROW ELEVEN, SHANNON RIDGE, CIVELLO ) ; Lauren of Washington Wholesalers ( LIBERTY SCHOOL- all flavors, SANFORD and RUTHERFORD HILL ) and Matt of Washburn ( PEIRANO Petit Sirah 2008 , SULLIVAN " Red Ink ", MEYER FAMILY ESTATE ( port and Syrah 2005 ).

Love those radiant smiles and all those bottles clutched tightly in your hands for later purchase Cristina and Ian!

I love seeing all these happy customers here in our store Cleveland Park Wines and Spirits. This is good, really good!

It's now Monday, September 27th, 2010 here at home in northern Virginia at 9:20 a.m. and I am sorry that I am just posting this really long, overdue draft of a blog. Sorry guys.

The next " Big Theme " Wine-Tasting wile also be on the wines of the United States : 9 states SHINDIG 50 to be exact and not the obvious ones. This time Andrew will be our special guest from Siema imports and we will feature his wines of Hawaii, Michigan, Arizona, Idaho, New York and more. I have already blogged about Andrew here so check out his more recent blog of his SHINDIG wines of New York State and Oregon I believe.

Cheers and thanks to one and to all for coming and tasting and pouring and making this another really special evening that we shared with everyone in Cleveland Park Northwest Washington D.C. our nation's capitol. TONY
