New Budweiser American Ale Tasting Last Friday Here With Robert Kacher Wine Selections Tasting 5-8 PM At Cleveland Park November 21st, 2008

It was great to have these two tastings going on at the same time this Friday evening, November 21st from 5-8 PM here in our store in the nation's capitol. Just across the street from us the " new " James Bond movie is playing at the Uptown movie house. It's turned cold outside, too and both these wines and this stronger beer will help combat the wind and the dropping temperatures.

We tasted the BUDWEISER American Ale - tasty, dark; a deep-colored ale that we sell at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits ( 3423 Connecticut Avenue N.W. Washington D.C. 2008 Tel : 202-363-4265 sales@clevelandparkwine.com www.clevelandparkwine.com ) for$6.99 a 6-pack. I tried it when the young brunette lady poured me a sample and I liked it. I would have liked it better with some food , perhaps something grilled - but I liked it.

We also had young Frenchman, Alexis Brigolle ( marketing and sales assistant ) of Robert Kacher Selections ( abrigolle@robertkacherselections.com www.robertkacherselections.com 202-832-9083 ) tasting four of Bobby's wines : two red Cotes du Rhones ( the FONT DU VENT from Etienne et Michel Gonnet - under $15 a bottle - that was smoother, silkier, more polished : and the Andre Brunel, $10.99 - heartier, gutsier, beefier ).

We had Michel Gonnet and his wife visit our store and do an in-store wine-tasting a couple of years ago. Michel makes several red Rhones including a superb Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It was a great pleasure to have him and his wife pouring their wines and they are welcome back anytime that they would like to come. There is a real polish and finesse to his FONT du VENT Cotes du Rhone Villages red that we poured this evening. It could be a really nice wine to serve at Thanksgiving, too.

Alexis also tasted the two whites from DOMAINE TARIQUET in the Cotes du Gascogne area of southwest, France : the clean, crisp , tart Sauvignon Blanc, $10.99 and the Cote Tariquet blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc which is much thicker, creamier, denser and with more color, too at $12.99.

Both these whites are excellent and good in different situations. The Sauvignon Blanc with salads/vinaigrette's and goat's cheese, oysters ( the Old Ebbitt grill picked it within ten of the best out of 350 wines tasted as the best for oysters ) . The Cote Tariquet is also nice to sip by itself but will also marry nicely with lobster and crab and chicken Cordon Bleu to name just a few things. They have both done really well at our store over the last two years or more now.

Alexis is here in Washington D.C. to learn English and get an experience here in the U.S. while he is young and has the time and opportunity. He seems to be enjoying himself. He's here for six months before returning to France. He's learning about wine as well as about the wine business : both areas that he is interested in.

The young lady pouring the BUDWEISER American ale is also pursuing other interests and I believe has just graduated from college and seeing what her options are. She performed her job well and tasted many of our Cleveland Park customers on the BUDWEISER American Ale and I believe it sold well.

We certainly sold many bottles assorted of the four Kacher wines this evening. We always do, this is no secret or no new grand news!

At the end of the tastings the young lady came and sampled the four wines that Alexis was pouring. She's holding in her hands next to him a bottle of the DOMAINE DU TARIQUET Sauvignon Blanc 2007, $10.99.

Thank you both for your time, effort and enthusiasm. It conveyed and our customers benefited. Happy Thanksgiving to you all. It's now Monday night at home as I type this, November 24th, 2008 at 11:48 PM and get ready to post it aster proofing it.

Here are some of the pictures I took of these three hours. A number of our regular customers attended as usual. Come and join us sometime. There's never any charge and everyone is welcome. Make it a fun event for yourselves as there are often more than one tasting going on at a time. Sometimes we have three tastings : one beer, one liquor and one wine-tasting that overlap on either Friday evenings or Saturdays late afternoon/early evening.

Cheers, TONY
