It's Thanksgiving Time Again Time o Reflect, Gather Together And Celebrate!

IT'S TIME once gain for us all to reflect, to gather together and to celebrate. I read an article in the Washington Post a few days ago that spoke about Thanksgiving being a holiday that traditionally has been to gather and to honor and appreciate our elders, the oldest in our families that have inspired us, provided, done , sacrificed always for us. As we get older we become I believe even more aware of that. I have thought so much these days of my mother and what she has done for my brothers and me over the years, the same, but in different ways as our father did for us. I miss my father and I love them both and appreciate what they have provided me with to best cope, to better flourish, to continue to advance, to add something, to give back more than I have received, to be humble and be honest and to not just do the very obvious that takes care of only myself. Life is a compromise and it is a difficult one and the thanks we often get is just in knowing that what we are doing and have done so far is and was the right and the best thing to do.

MY GRANDPARENTS are gone and no longer with me. I miss them, too as they also have given me many inspirations to keep me well and productive, keen and observant, playful and warm and alive and wanting to dive into the chaos that is life happening and changing, morphing and winding and soaring high, drilling deep low , and exploding like so many fireworks. so many sparklers lit by us or by others, sometimes right under our derrieres to get the desired rewards, to hit certain goals!

I AM glad that I read that article. It helps to put it back into perspective for me as I rush forward to provide whatever I can for my family, for my Virginia community and my D.C. neighborhood. I am fully invested in all, and I love being a part of so many things greater than I. I cede my place to others, I share the limelight, I redirect the spotlight, I try and never lose track, too when selling wine and other spirits of the grains and hops, and grapes from which they are coaxed, nourished, weened , worked into, sculpted like a fine liquid piece of shining art.

GIVE THANKS to those around me, to that which inspires, that which challenges and teases and pleases and puzzles me, too. My ' big beef '  remember the ads that had the older lady exclaiming : " Where's the beef ?!? "  is that I want to with everyone at Cleveland Park Wine And Spirits ' give and get ' you THE BEEF!  We need the beef, the grape, the grain, the apple, the apricot, the cassis, the raspberry, the corn, the cherry pits, ... whatever it is that makes the liquid spirits that we treasure and that so do add to our lives.

ON THIS THANKSGIVING as well as all those still to come that is what we aim to share and to offer you all. he core, the source, the spirit and soul of whatever it is that you desire. We are selling some of all of it, whatever we can buy and resell to you all whether it be an ale, a beer, a cider, and bottled water, a liqueur or a liquor or a wine. And we want to be as honest and as upfront about it, explain whatever we can, and offer as much information as we possibly can to make the moments of these holidays all the more special for you and your families.

THAT'S THE IDEA, THAT'S OUR DREAM, THAT'S OUR GOAL ; simple as that. That is what we can do for you and to do that best we ask you to trust and believe in us and what we are advising : which is some of what you are asking and some of which we are sharing and suggesting. Scary and fun, exciting and an adventure of sorts, too.

WE WERE INFORMED recently that certain wines would be advertised in the Washington Post newspaper ( now as well online ), and the online always gets published earlier than the actual Washington Post newspaper that gets delivered on the day itself that I love to hold and to read as I find time. It's a great pleasure to me.

I WAS SO THRILLED to be able to tell our new customers recently, Kevin and Mary that both work for the Washington Post this as I wheeled out their wine to the car in back. It was smiling, I was beaming as I said this to them. Then the next morning I was reading Kevin's article and that made me feel really good, too as he had just returned from reporting and gathering information on it to write it. I like that, I like it a whole lot.

THEY HAVE A PARTY, I believe it's tonight and I was recommended to them and so Mary came asking me if I was Tom I believe she said? " No. " I responded, " I'm Tony. " That's it. " she said apologizing with a broad smile covering her face as she did. We talked about the time frame, the number of people, and how much they would need for their party. She asked about some Scotch and we also spoke of vodka I believe, We selected those and then we started on the beer and the wine. I had lots of suggestions for her as it was a large party and the tab was on her and not to be shared by everyone. I made many suggestions and she simply said finally : " I'm going to let my husband make those decisions, bring him back here, we can do it together later. " I said that would be fine and so much later that same day, I had since sold many cases and bottles and six-packs, 4-packs, so many single bottles that I was exhausted and happy and so, once again the three now of us were off on this mission to provide for their evening party tonight!

IT WAS FUN, AN EXPERIENCE that started with the single question : " Should we limit it to just a couple of wine choices? " I said : " Are you kidding me?!? If you ask me we should provide lots of variety, make it fun and interesting and a real adventure to anyone wanting or willing to embark on one. You have ten or more foods for people to choose from and you want to limit the sprits, wine and beer to just two or three? Are you serious?!? " Of course I did not say it quite that way, but that is what I was thinking. They took my advice. Together we selected many wines for them to enjoy and some beer, too and I am expecting now the very best/ I feel confident, but we will all have to wait and see what happens tonight.

THAT'S WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER YOU for your Thanksgiving, lots and lots of choices, some obvious, some trendy and popular and obvious today and many more that are not , that are traditional, that are also fitting, and many that will surprise you and your family and friends that will soon enjoy them this Thursday as well as over the next five weeks during the holidays season that brings 2014 to a close and ushers in 2015!

AS I SAID, we were made aware of some of the wines that will be suggested for this Thanksgiving, as well as some bubbly , champagne and sparkling wines, as well as other still wines for the holidays. We have already been selling a whole lot of one of them and are delighted to hear that the Washington Post will be recommending it.

IN THE WASHINGTON POST on this Wednesday the CHATEAU GRAND TRAVERSE Gamay, $19.99  from Michigan will be suggested. We love it, we have already tasted it with many of our customers and already sold many bottles. It is so smooth, so silky, no edges, just pure and fresh and bright, a lighter-bodied dry red that tastes like a Pinot Noir and that is FABulous and from Michigan, too. Who would have ever thunk?!? Not many, but those from Michigan are proud and happy that we are selling and recommending their wine!

I WILL BE RECOMMENDING some American wine to start so at least you know we have some to enjoy, staring with the On Special CHATEAU BIANCA Willamette Valley Oregon 2009 dry Riesling at $9.99 that is now drinking like a dream. it's wonderful, has everything to offer and we are thrilled to have it! Get some while supplies last.

WEDNESDAY ,  We have Tim the owner, winemaker of CARDINAL POINT Vineyards in Monticello, VA. from 3-6PM to taste. That will be nice as he was unable to attend this past Saturday. SO : we will be able to give his three or more wines the real attention that they deserve from the dry white ' Quatro ', and the dry red ' Quatro ' to the mostly dry red 93% Cabernet France, too . This will be quite special. Come meet him. he has never been to our store to taste yet. This will be a first for us and he will be able to sign a bottle or more for you as gifts for Thanksgiving and the holidays. Having tasted all three this past Saturday I can attest to them all being really friendly Thanksgiving wines that almost everyone may enjoy. Tim also only makes wines from Virginia-grown grapes. He does not buy and mix grapes from out-of-state, and we love him for that! Bravo Tim and Sarah!

THURSDAY, THANKSGIVING  Day you may come and pick up last-minute needs and so we may help you that way. You can always ask Malkit if he does not have some special spirit to taste you all on. We have a stash that we save for special occasions. SO : ask Malkit what he has to taste you on? You never know what he may have up his sleeve?!?

JAGIR came by the store a couple of days ago with his wife after being in the hospital, and though walking a bit more slowly he still had his wonderful smile and he seemed much better, and we are so thankful for that. Cheers to you Jagir!
