Featuring a wide, international selection of fine wines, micro-brews and spirits
COME BY ANYTIME TODAY ON ELECTION DAY
WE ARE HERE ALL DAY LONG, I have just walked the aisles as is my custom on
Tuesday mornings as I start my week here in Cleveland Park. It's a beautiful
cold and bright and brisk morning. I got up when it was dark outside and my car
was all frosty and a touch brittle. Brrrr. Not my best time of the morning but I
went off to vote and am wearing proudly now my " I voted " sticker on my faint
olive green long-sleeve sweat shirt to keep me warm. It was dark when I got to
my children's old elementary school to vote and light when I actually voted
twenty-five minutes later after having waited with a lot of other patient people
in a quickly-advancing line that took us by many posters , pictures of young
students and their pieces of art. That was inspiring, that put a smile on my
face. That warmed me : our future in them, a comforting thought.
THIS IS A DIFFICULT EMAIL FOR ME TO WRITE as I am on pins and needles about the
results of this election as I bet many of you are. I mean, what do you say, what
do you talk about on a momentous day like today that will certainly determine
the future on the next four important years in the United States?!
I READ REALLY EARLY some Facebook comments : 1) go and vote! 2) whoever wins I
will travel, I like to travel, I will leave the country and travel 3) whoever
wins please acknowledge the wide divide of our population, concerns, needs,
etcetera and please work and address them all, 4) Alison showed a picture of the
line where she was voting , and many more that I cannot recall just now.
WHAT WILL YOU ALL DRINK TONIGHT while you watch and listen to the election
results? We have plenty of things here for you. I just finished stocking our
cold box with plenty of white wines and sparkling wines, too. I thought to
myself that I might take home some sparkling wine when I leave later. A good
friend is coming over and bringing some take-out Thai and so I will pick
something that will hold up to that : perhaps one of the French cremant
sparkling wines that we have from Alcace, Burgundy and the Loire valley?
I JUST SPOKE TO DOUG and to STEPHEN. DOUG asked me who I was pulling for and I
paused, smiled and responded : " I never discuss politics here at the store ".
He smiled and responded : " Does their first name start with an " O "? ". I sold
Doug some of the NINO FRANCO " Rustico " On Special for $14.99 - regularly
$18.99 that happens to be the first Prosecco sold here in Washington D.C. back
in the early-to-mid eighties at the Mayflower Wines & Spirits. It's excellent
and flavorful and really has plenty of taste and character and will hold up
really well to the Thai seasonings.
OUR THOUGHTS, HEARTS & BEST WISHES go out to those in the states of New Jersey
and New York that were hard-hit by Hurricane Sandy and still reeling and
recovering from all the water and wind damage. It was really hard to see all
those pictures and to read the rather graphic and disheartening prose in the New
York Times. Being an artist the damage to Chelsea was shocking, sad and I am
still recovering from it. To read that families were opening their oven doors to
stay warm from the heat. Very dangerous and certainly not safe or recommended.
Seeing in one of the pictures the young mother standing patiently in line at a
local gas station waiting to fill her three red plastic gas cans was hard to
look at and yet I studied it and thought a bit longer about it.
HERE ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS for tonight and also for the rest of the week from

positive.
