Anthony Quinn's Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits Tuesday Weekly Store Email January 28th, 2014 : State-Of-Union-Address Tonight, SUPER BOWL Weekend!
Cleveland Park Wine Cleveland Park Beer, Liquor & Wine
Featuring a wide, international selection of fine wines, micro-brews and spirits
SORRY THAT THERE WAS no store email last week - the weather was a big part of
that ...
THINK ABOUT TONIGHT'S State-Of-The-Union Address ...
SURE, IT COULD CHANGE, it all hangs on a split second, on one conversation, on
one gesture, a smile or not, an email, a text, a Facebook message, a call!
I'M SPEAKING OF the SUPER BOWL, though it could relate to other topics like the
Golden Globe and Grammy, so many things.
WE HAVE A WHOLE RANGE of things to show you, to tempt you with. Malkit just
showed me a series of liquors that are all On Special , and when you buy them
you also will receive another 15% off these red-sticker prices : LIKE - THREE
OLIVES vodka, MEZZALUNA Vodka, GODIVA Chocolate, SKINOS Mastiha Liqueur, GREAT
LAKES " Pumpkin " liqueur... come check these out ; loose lots of individual
bottles and less than a case of any item.
WE HAVE BEEN REALLY BUSY here getting everything bar-coded so that we will soon
be able to scan everything and make it easier to know if we have an item in
stock or not, and easier to ring up at the register when there are lines so that
you do not have to wait around more than necessary. All good, all for our
greater good.
WE ALSO have whatever you might want to watch tonight's State-Of-The-Union
address. Because it is so very cold I will try and focus on things to bring us
good cheer and warm us with both the wind and the tumbling temperatures that are
wil us they say through this week.
THIS SUNDAY my wife and I drove up to the Big Apple to the East Village to dine
at Becerka VESELKA a Ukrainian restaurant started 59 years ago in 1954! Wow,
now that's ' some history '! The funny thing was as we ate our Piecogis, potato
pancakes and other Ukrainian specialties I looked out and saw one of us - YES -
one of our Cleveland Park customers walk by. My jaw dropped down, my eyes
widened, and he looked inside the restaurant and saw me, stopped, smiled; and we
both waved at the other! It's pretty amazing as he did tell me he was moving to
New York. But while he lived here he would often stop and taste and chat with
us. Another customer, another friend. We have many customers that we share
between Washington D.C. and New York city. That's nice. They are always big
smiles when they are here, happy to see us, happy to have us here, and they
often stop to chat time-permitting like John and David!
OUR MEAL at VESELKA was a real treat. It stays open 24 hours and it was packed
for lunch and really cold outside and so we had to wait but it was well-worth
it. I would return as so much of it between the egg dishes, the pancakes and
waffles, all the sausages and the pastries - lots of comfort. I drank some
delicious unfiltered cider that though cold pleased me when my Monte Cristo
sandwich arrived with two slices meats, melted Swiss cheese, a mustard sauce,
fries, and on their toasted potato bread.
IF I HAD NOT BEEN DRIVING it would have been fun to combine this with a wine
like the BOE Brooklyn Oenology 2010 Social Club dry red blend from the North
Fork of Long Island, $19.99, 13.2% alcohol by volume. The back label reads: "
It's complex with lively flavors of dark cherry and blackberry, and highlights
of spices and savory baking herbs. A Bordeaux-style blend ... " I agree with
this, : www.brooklynoenology.com for more info. It will warm you and work really
well with many meals that will also do the same ...
WHAT A GRAND EXPERIENCE, about five hours each way, leaving at 6 A.M. and
getting back around 7 P.M. and about three hours in the East Village of New York
at E9thSt. and 2nd St ( not far from the Filmore East - and with the Grammy
later that was fun to remember all the groups that played there - maybe Paul and
Ringo played there at some point? ) , all the tolls back and forth, $31 for 3-4
hours' parking : a fanciful flight to and fro and well-worth it! Highly
recommended, treat ourselves once in awhile.
I MIGHT HAVE ORDERED some of the CHATEAU GRAND TRAVERSE, est 1974, " Whole
Cluster " 2012 Old Mission Peninsula Michigan German Kabinett style -
medium-dry Riesling, $18.99 with my Monte Cristo sandwich, that should have cut
through the honey mustard well? Or maybe it might have been better tho have the
CHATEAU GRAND TRAVERSE 2011 Semi-Dry Riesling, $15.99, 12% alcohol by volume? Go
to : www.cgtwines.com for more ideas. Cheers.
I'D DO IT, WILL DO IT ALL over again. And so funny that I ran into the son of
someone who's father helps to promote the series of wines called LAYER CAKE,
like the Shiraz 2012 South Australia, $18.99, 14.5% alcohol by volume that we
sell here. That. too might have worked well with my Monte Cristo sandwich as it
was so cold on Sunday and our five-block walk outside to get back to our car
almost killed me! I felt my body harden and turn brittle-like and it scared the
s--t out of me!
THESE ARE ALL WINES to buy now and enjoy with the Super Bowl ... Treat
yourselves, buy now!

world's preeminent superfruit and VEEV is the world's first acai spirit. Born of
a desire for adventurous living...
AND WITH BRAZIL'S carnival week coming in February, this would be a great way
to enjoy the spirit of celebrating life and being alive. The taste is so
elegant, so polished and refined : with an enticing bouquet that shouts-out like
streamers of all pastel colors falling from the buildings above and down into
the streets with all those singing and dancing down below, dressed in so many
bright colors, so many feathers and glitter and pizzas ... and here you have a
softer, my calming taste to enjoy.
AS THEY SAY : " A Better Way To Live Deserves A Better Way To Drink. Make the
Eau de VeeV - a Brazilian Rickey : 2 oz VeeV Acai Spirit, 1 lemon slice, i
orange slice, and 3 Oz tonic ... a citrus wheel to garnish ... Veevebrate!
