Jeanne Marie De Champs Of Domaines Et Saveurs Collections, Beaune, France Visits & Tastes Current Burgundy Et Loire Wines @ Cleveland Park Wines 9/10
It was a great cool, wet and drizzly day here in Cleveland Park last Thursday, September 30th, 2010 when at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits Mark brought Jeanne Marie De Champs both first thing in the morning and then at the end of the day to our store. It was the first time we were meeting Jeanne Marie and she came bundled up in her lovely raincoat and colorful French ( Hermes scarf? ) foulard/scarf. I complemented her on this as she came bearing wines to taste and Mark came bearing cases to drop off to sell later at our in-store wine-tasting of five wines from Jeanne Marie's portfolio that included both Loire Valley and Burgundy French red and white wines.
WE started by tasting some of the higher-end wines that both Mark and Jeanne Marie would be showing this day which included a lovely Meursault for example. It was pretty amazing really. So, our tasting this morning included some of Jeanne Marie's best wines - more expensive - and the in-store wine-tasting for the evening would include for example the white burgundy of the same Meursaut producer.
Both tastings were of the highest order and quality. What came through for me on both tastings was the refusal to make anything but the purest and most correct and most typical of the wines possible from the grapes grown in whichever region, soil, climate, weather and traditional philosophies of local wine-making. There were no compromises to making the very best and the most honest expressions from these regions and micro-climates, specific plots, sun's exposure, drainage, poor soil content that could be achieved with the least human intervention. I loved this : I gobbled it all up - I loved her telling in French to me of all of this and I bonded immediately with Jeanne Marie because she brought us all so many wonderful and stimulating and authentic wines. Bravo Jeanne Marie!
There was an earlier problem at the Cleveland Park metro station with many police cars and so I captured it with the approaching cyclist shown above coming towards me and the store here on our access road by Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits ( 3423 Connecticut Avenue N.W. Washington D.C. 20008 Tel:202-363-4265. www.clevelandparkwine.com www.clevelandparkwine.com Facebook at clevelandparkwineandspirits ).
Regis of Roanoke Imports tasted along with Chris Barker, Marl, Jeanne Marie and myself.
I have more to say but want to post these pictures now and add to this later this week. To see the wines we tasted now enlarge these pictures on your monitor and stay-tuned for more really soon. Cheers et merci Jeanne Marie, TONY
