Our local rep brought us Wednesday September 3rd, 2008 the " new " COINTREAU " Noir " liqueur and cognac ( Angers, France ) ON SALE for $62.99 ( go to for more technical info : www.cointreau.com ) to taste. Santos called Mike and me over to the register and we both tasted it. I liked it : it's fuller, richer and certainly with less bite and sharpness. It just sits/rests beautifully on the palate and though sweet it is certainly not cloying or too heavy. I'd have to sip it over a long stretch of time and enjoy it that way, perhaps after wine and a lovely evening. Both men and women will be able to enjoy this, together, in each other's company for a change. Perhaps this was the idea/the target audience?! I don't know. I do think it will do well even at this higher price : plenty of people will like it immediately and others will grow to like it with time. Cheers, a nice addition. Call us here at the store at : 202-363-4265 if you'd like to buy some. Ask for Ravinder, Mike, Tony or Santos.
Here are two pictures I took of the bottle and the COINTREAU NOIR to show you all it's color/clarity/brilliance. Santos is holding the bottle.
