Nico Van Der Merwe South African Wines of MAS NICOLAS & ROBERT ALEXANDER, Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Here are some great photos or at least fun photos of Nico as he opens so many bottles of wine at once for John Morrison and me to try in the comfort of his cellar. He poured us the MAS NICOLAS wines as well as the ROBERT ALEXANDER wines, both of which we have sold at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits where I manage the wine department with the help of Mike Martin.

We had a grand tasting sitting down at Nico's table inside his winery, just the three of us : quiet, intense, flavorful wines.

Of course I have to include at least one shot of the wine being poured, the swirling of the wine in the glass, Nico through the wine glass, Nico smiling and some of the Springbok ( the white albino ones ), the sniffing of the empty wine glass to be sure it is okay ... can't just have only the pictures of opening the wine bottles. After all, wine is a story and that's only one wee little itty-bitty part. Hope you too feel some of the magic that I did of this moment.

As I said more will follow here and in additional blogs on Nico and his flavorful, tasty, impressive dry wines that I think are perfectly suited to enjoy with many a well-seasoned, tasty meal - simply or elaborate.

Thanks Nico for this wonderful glimpse into your wines and your world. I enjoyed myself enormously and felt like a real prince with as much attention, time and care that you lavished in your friendly, relaxed style on both John Morrison and me. You can't buy that ... and come and see us in Washington D.C. at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits ( 3423 Connecticut Avenue N.W. Washington D.C. 20008 Tel : 202-363-4265 www.clevelandparkwine.com sales@clevelandparkwine.com ) you are always welcome.

Thanks again ... TONY
