Brennan Downey ( of the Michael Downey selections Tel : 703 875-0426 Fax : 703-875-0427 ) brought French wine owner Frederic Chandiere of LE PARADOU ( from France's southern Rhone area called the Luberon ) to Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits ( 3423 Connecticut Avenue N.W. Washington D.C. 20008 sales@clevelandparkwine.com www.clevelandparkwine.com Tel : 202-363-4265 ) on February 21st, 2007.
Brennan Downey had two wines with them at the time : a Vin de Pays du Vaucluse blanc ( white : 40% Viognier / 30% Roussanne and 30% Grenache Blanc ) and a red Cotes du Luberon rouge/red ( 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah ) . I enjoyed meeting winemaker Frederic and trying both wines. The labels are eye-catching in softer, pastel hues of greens and reds.
Both wines are made entirely from their own grapes ( the vines range between 40-60 years old ) and they see no wood to ensure that the brilliance and freshness of the fruit is always supreme. The grapes come from two properties.
The Chaudiere family also makes wines in the Cotes du Ventoux area. For more technical information go to : mrdvino@aol.com.
I was reading the Food section of the Washington Post on Wednesday, January 14th, 2009 and saw that wine-writer Dave McIntyre had chosen to write about Frederic's red Cotes du Luberon and this prompted me to call Brennan and order some for our store in Cleveland Park, N.W. Washington D.C. We have already sold Frederic's wines and so it is nice to have them back in the store once again.
I believe in the fine writing and reviewing that Dave is bringing back to the Washington Post newspaper and want to support him where we can. Dave is writing really pithy, insightful, introspective and stimulating about wine and topics that are especially important to us all today. I applaud that and have told him so. So this was a " no-brainer " to buy more of this splendid southern French Luberon ( besides, I like the cooking of chef Yannick Cam and his restaurant is called Le Paradou! go figure?!? ) as we already knew the wine and had sold it well before.
I found these pictures that I had taken of Frederic and Brennan's visit just about two years' ago on February 2nd, 2007 and have included them here. I write now what Frederic wrote in our guest book on this visit of his : " Cher Tony, Merci beaucoup pour votre temp, la chateau de votre accueil et la qualite de la degustation ! Au plaisir de vous retrouver lors de mon prochaine passage a DC ! Bien cordialement " signed Frederic Chaudiere - Le Paradou.
It was a good visit indeed. Thanks and till the next time that we meet Frederic. Happy New Year 2009 to you and to your family. On parlera plus de Francais la prochaine fois ici au magasin ou chez vous dans le Luberon.
We have the red in our store now at $14.49. Call Mike Martin or me ( Tony ) at : 202-363-4265 if you want us to save some for your next visit.
Cheers et sante a tous , TONY
