NOW for our Mini- BIG THEME Wine-Tasting tomorrow -

TABLE NUMBER ONE - We have Francois Hurtel coming here to pour two great sparkling wines from DOMAINE CHANDON in california as well as the Moet e chandon 2009 vintage champagne from france.

      1) ' American Summer ' California brut from chandon, limited edition, $21.99 a bottle, with 12% alcohol by volume, so crisp, bright, lively, refreshing, a great sparkling wine to enjoy now!

      2) ' American Summer ' california dry rose, also the limited edition, some lovely bright fruit-center here that will put a smile on your face and relax you.

This is also available in the smaller 187ml bottle size, at $8.99 with the traditional label, so buy either size and enjoy!

great packaging here, you feel great just looking at the bottles here as you pour them.

WE MAY ALSO HAVE here the Two ' Etoile ' bottlings from California, but they have not arrived in our store yet leading me to suspect that they may be out-of-stock!

If we get them we will also pour them -
3) Etoile Brut non-vinatge, California sparkling, $31.49 a bottle : it is so smooth, creamy, full, gentle, silky, like a souffle, what a sipping treat all by itself!
 4) Etoile Brut dry rose non-vintage, California sparkling, $36.49 a bottle. This blows me away for the complexity, concentration, flavor, focus, firmness and generous velvet flesh, too - a real special exciting treat!
 AND - the ' piece de resistance ' :
 5) 2009 Grand Vintage from MOET & CHANDON, I tasted this awhile back with Francois Hurtel and Tess Ankeny ( Tess might also be present to pour with Francois, we will see?!? ). I really enjoyed thoroughly the weight, presence, power yet concentration and control as these small, tiny bubbles burst onto my palate, as they hit, saturated, popped and fandangled and then stayed and lingered as long as they possibly could before saying " au-revoir ".

TABLE NUMBER TWO - We have John ' Amo ' Amoroso here pouring a fine selection of Aussie wines for you all -

1) Viognier  South Australia 2017, from The Y Series, family vignerons since 1849, and they also have a nursery and sell many root stocks to other vineyards as well. $14.49 a bottle, with 13.5% alcohol by volume - this is one of the most-pleasing, bright, friendly,easy-sipping Viognier dry whites that will ever grace your tongue, charming 120%!
2) Premium Cuvee from JANSZ,  made in Tasmania, this is a flavorful, rich, layered and almost sultry, laid-back liquid sparkling wine that has proven it's stature, worth and quality now umpteen times and will again as you taste it here. Really nice with food, it will charm out many a flavor in your meal and rock that flavor and your tongue gently as if you were both in a hammock!
3) Old Bush Vine Grenache 2014, Barossa valley, from SAMUEL'S Garden Collection, $21.99 a bottle, with 13% alcohol by volume, what a treat. Amo had this bottle with him and brought it in later as we discussed further what he would pour. He had just tasted it with his wholesaler group and it , like the others had been open for 1-2 hours already, and so he went out to his car to bring it here to taste as well with the others....
I LOVED IT, what grace, what finesse, what aged-nobility, extraction and sublime gentleness of flavors, bouquet and taste. A charmer, better than a snake, it's bites are loving and comforting and welcome time after time after time. Yes.
4) Ring.Bolt 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon from Western Australia's glorious Margaret River ( that reminds me much of many great wine-makeing-vine-growing landscapes), I liked the friendly, generous, bright, embracing fruit-centered-forward quality here. Not as rough-and-tumble, more laid-back, more easy-to-sip without food,medium-bodied frank joy and pleasure. $21.99 with 14.5% alcohol by volume, made by vigneron Heather Fraser. Too bad Heather cannot join us and be here to taste this with you all!
5) Church Block 2014  51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Shiraz and 37%  Merlot dry blend from the McLaren Vale in South Australia. WIRRA WIRRA, with 14.5% alcohol by volume, this is bigger, bolder, meatier, beefier, more brash and blare and blast, a more pronounced bling that the first two, more a food wine here, anything with some real flavor that needs a partner to slightly tame it around the edges and preserve and amplify the core brightness and frankness and flesh of both solid and liquid tastes! Yes!

TABLE NUMBER THREE - Ian & Lyss Wolf our Red Wolf Imports pours - fine wines of South africa - celebrating the south african holiday when everyone comes together to be one and not divided -

1) Sparkling brut from South Africa's Stellenbosch region, this ' Tradition ' this Epier family wine Villiera, a Methode Cap Classique, $24.99,  with 12% alcohol by volume, is a great new addition here , we desperately need this high-quality sparkling ' gem ' that over-delivers for the price, you will see when you taste it. Check carefully by tasting in ' slow-motion ' the fascinating ' hang-time ' on tongue, throat and stomach, very impressive and surprising!
2) Sauvignon Blanc 2016 from the EAGLE'S NEST, Constantia, wine of the Coastal region, there is a lovely volume and lulling lovely lilt to this Sauvignon that murmurs and collects itself on one's palate like the flock of black sterlings as they in unison do ballet in the skies above and you are amazed then as you will be when you taste this lovely Sauvign Blanc!
3) Mourvedre dry rose 2017  from BABYLONSTOREN, $19.99, a real treat just on first sight! The deeper color that borders on a rose-amber color, a delight that begs the question upon sigh sight : " What will this color deliver in flavor to match the beautiful , distinct color?!? In this case this dry rose with 13% alcohol by volume has a fullness, a freshness, and a svelte-mmmm-ness that will lift and carry our palate and tongue along with it seamlessly. A treat from the Western Cape  special treat, and perfect as the days shorten and the temperatures think about dropping?!?
4) Pinot Noir 2016 from the Western Cape, this medium-to-lighter-bodied Pinot Noir is more defined by the spice and earth with accents of a dark chocolate that dries the lower register of flavors as the sweetness and richness from the raspberry accents lift your eyes and cheeks into brightness-lightness-with-food-just-the-right-rightness! Yes, $24.99, with 14% alcohol by volume!

TABLE NUMBER FOUR - Tasting with Narayan Campbell the FABulous Brazilian wines of MIOLO Family Vineyards -viticoltores desde 1897

1) Cuvee Tradition , methode traditionnelle, $17.99,  with 12% alcohol by volume, grapes grown in the Vale dos Vinedos, just down the mountain in the valley from the wine center above in Bento Goncalves. I was there in late June 2012 - ten glorious days, and one grand private wine-tasting-tour by oenologue Gustavo - just the three of us, simply wonderful, and it was great to relive how this was the first seriously fine bottle or group of bottles that we have sold here from Brazil.
IT ALL GOES BACK to Flavius Cucu that first introduced these wines to me. We bought and sold everything that he had. What wonderful memories, obregado Flavius that is from Romania and also sold us many fine Romanian wines in the day!
THIS Cuvee Tradition has just the right balance of gravitas and finesse that one needs with a great price that over-delivers for that! I just sampled once again this with Wagner Alberti that is helping MIOLO get the distribution that they deserve, and that they had ten or more years ago here in this area with Flavius. This is so polished and refined with just enough weight and concentration, and yet airy and light enough, too to not fatigue any muscle of nerve or sinew.
2) ' Alisios ' Pinot Grigio / Riesling 2017 from the Seival Estate by MIOLO, $14.49 a bottle, with 11.5% alcohol by volume,  with 50% of each grape in this blend is a refreshing delight of acids and pump juice balanced, polished, burnished, peppered and spiced to tell tales of contentment and ease and peace suggested by the late John Lennon. Taste and relax and imagine.
 3) ' Cuvee Tradition ' brut dry rose, $17.99 a bottle, with 12.5% alcohol by volume, this is equal blends of both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and I have not tried this yet and cannot wait to try it with you all.

WHEN WAGNER ALBERTI visited me he must have had fifteen samples of MIOLO with him so I decided to let some bottles be a surprise like this sparkling rose. Cheers!
4) Reserva Merlot 2015 from Campanha, Brasil, $14.49 a bottle, with 13% alcohol by volume, I really enjoyed the weight and mouth-grip-feel here that caught my attention and held it immediately from first whiff of the bouquet to the rich, layered middle and lingering finish...
5) Lote 43 , 2012 ( a great vintage in Brazil , their iconic dry red blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, with 14% alcohol by volume, $38.99 a bottle, this is it - the whole orchestra, the whole stage, the whole opera hall, the whole cabaret, the complete chorus and meal, feast, festival, carnival - the whole explosion of primary and pastel colors all the ceremony, pomp , dazzle, splash, flame, ember, longing, love, passion, gut , heart, soul and brain, too. So much to offer here, come and be almost overwhelmed, warmed, wanted, a wonderful liquid world.

TABLE NUMBER FIVE - with Dan Schoeff pouring for Rob Moulthrop of Mondo Vino, and pouring the FINE COUSINO-MACUL wines of Santiago and Maipo Valley, Chile. Si si si si si, e hola Arturo Cousino!
1) " Isidora ' Sauvignon Gris from the Valle del Maule, a 2016, $16.49, with 14% alcohol by volume, wow, this is a wonderful treat that we introduced here when it first got to the East Coast! We served it a dinner with the then-winemaker Matias that came here and tasted wines before we headed down to Ardeo. And before that Jaime came here that had been the master winemaker at COUSINO-MACUL for so many years! And Arturo Cousino also has been in the store at least two if not three times. He is family here! Anyway this is a dry flavorful white that must be experienced more than once in your lifetime as it has it's own magical definition that is different for each and everyone of us.
2) Merlot 2016 from Chile's Valle del Maipo, $11.99 a bottle, with 14% alcohol by volume, this wine packs a wonderful punch and flavor, more than you would ever suspect for this modest price - vibrant, it rings true to the Merlot taste and profile, a great sipping as well as food red! Si si si si si!
3) Antiguas Reservas 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, sustainably-farmed, from Chile's Valle del Maipo, $18.99, with 14% alcohol by volume, this is how it all started here in Washington D.C. for COUSINO-MACUL, this wine in 1983-84 sold for $5.99 a bottle then and it was outrageous to think you had to pay that much then for a Cabernet unknown at that price?!?!? But upon taste it turned people's heads and tongues and made of many of them firm believers! Not much has changed since then - still a great wine, taste it and decide for yourselves.

4) Dama de Plata 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile's Maipo Valley, $19.99 is the latest installment from COUSINO-MACUL and I love the earthier, pithier more ground-soil-sweat-sweetness-briar-sun-ripened-grape-quality here that lends itself so well to being a great medium-bodied red to enjoy with so many meals now and later. With 14% alcohol by volume, this is a great red to enjoy chilled forty minutes like all the reds tomorrow for forty or so minutes! Cheers,
