HAPPY THURSDAY today the morning now with low humidity a slight breeze and beautiful blue skies and bright sunshine, too!

COME BY and TAKE ADVANTAGE of all that we have here to offer you that is On Special and chilled for you.

WE ALWAYS HAVE something to share with you that is open or that we can open, so ask us and we will regal you with one thing or another.

WE WANT to always make you feel special, to share with you, to satisfy and put a smile on your face!

TOMORROW we taste here the fine Brazilian wines of the SALTON Vineyard in Bento Goncalves and the Vale dos Vinhedos that looks much like the Napa Valley in California, and that makes really fine wines that become fine wine.

NOW WE ARE WORKING on the next -

Mini BIG THEME Dry ROSE Wine-Tasting of 21 wines with 5 great passionate wine professionals pouring their selections. I have already written in the prior email I sent on Tuesday about tables ONE and TWO with Kristin and Christina pouring those.

NOW I Start with Will at TABLE # THREE -

TABLE # THREE William Murck ( Breakthru Beverages ) pouring four selections

1) FLEURS de PRAIRIE , a 2017 dry delicate pale Cotes du Provence rose, so ethereal, so lovely and light and lulling lullaby-soft as your eyes almost close as you slowly sip and savor. $18.49 a bottle. Beautiful pear-shaped bottle with an etched base that makes it a great gift presentation!

2) M MINUTY 2017 Cotes de Provence , here with more weight, more muscle and yet still that classic delicate pale color that we all recognize and want, and are always surprised with how much flavor there can be in such a delicate color?!? $21.49 a bottle, and also the classic pear-shaped bottle that looks great anywhere you put it, a rose or two later in the empty water-filled bottle perhaps!?!

INTERESTING NOTE on both these two Cotes de Provence dry roses - I wrote my first impression of both here. My second impression of both twenty-thirty minutes later when I tried them one more time : they switched and I found the FLEURS stronger and more robust, and the MINUTY more delicate. Just saying ...

BOTH would be nice with Coho the milder wild salmon.

3) Pinot Noir Blanc Oeil de Perdrix ( a partridge or a pheasant, I cannot remember now just which?!? ) 2017 Sonoma County , CA. from BELLE GLOS , really very pleasing and I can see this with a number of foods. Some smoked salmon or lox, mmmm or some crudites, a nice platter to amuse our palates?!? $19.99 a bottle, with a twist-off top, easy to travel with and open and luxuriate our senses in.

 4)  2016 dry California rose from CHATEAU St. JEAN in Sonoma, the color is darker, a bit more muscle and weight, and a great contender for some wild salmon steaks grilled with herbs de Provence, some Simon and Garfunkle music playing in the background , say some " Rosemary, Sage and Thyme ", yes!

TABLE # FOUR with with Jaren Keller of Lanterna Wines will pour four fine wines from his portfolio

1)Eleon'Or from France's Loire Valley and made by the Domaine de Herbauges, a 2017 dry and elegant silky, classy, refined blend of 60% GrolleauNoir and 40% Gamay is a pure unadulterated floral fleshy flowery flowing flash and fanciful liquid delight in a medium-to-lighter-bodied dry rose! Love it! 2017, $15.49 a bottle, a Frank's Signature Selection. Cheers, sante et a bientot.

2) Cerqueira Portuguese dry rose Vinho Verde LAGO with a low 10% alcohol by volume, $10.99, 2017, made with the indigenous Vinhao that produces many of these dry rose wines, I liked it, a great value, and the low alcohol is especially nice when sitting outside in the hot weather sipping wine and munching on any finger foods you have prepared or offering!

3) Le Grand COURTAGE Grande Cuvee Brut rose is a delight , a smooth-dry, a refreshing-bright, a richer-color that charms many of our female customers, especially in the ' cute ' 187ml bottle available at $7.49, as well as in the regular 750ml bottle, $20.49. It lloks fun and more expensive than many, and the owner of this a lovely lady living in California tells me that at the Eiffel Tower served in paper bags against Dom Perignon it was preferred by many, and we know that you can basically by 8-10 bottles of COURTAGE for every bottle of DOM!

4) La Vigne en ROSE from EMERA, a 2017 Negroamaro from Salento, Puglia, southern heel of Italy, from Claudio Quarta Vignaiolo, with 13.5% alc. by volume, a deeper darker color, here you have a fine food dry rose which will complement and delineate many of the flavors piping-hot off your grills, and many appetizers, cold plates, assortment of olives, smoked fish, you name it. fine food hot weather rose, $16.49 a bottle.

TABLE # FIVE with George Tsapos of Dionysos Imports pouring four fine Greek wines

1) Charilys Rose spumante non-vintage brut dry,  made with Greece's famous Assyrtiko indigenous grape, as well as the Syrah, , this Matmis is a great way to start with George's selection of four wines, I like the power and yet the finesse, the concentration and yet the lightness-of-being, the clarity and yet the angularity, too, the steel-accents that define and give some separation to better access and appreciate the multiplicity of flavors - savors.

2) IERIA deeper-colored-fleshed-flaired 2017 rose using the famous indigenous grape called Moschofilero 100%  from the BOSINAKIS Winery, in Arcadia, the arrow of Bacchus will pierce through your thickest armor and melt your heart as in the background The Beatles sing " All You Need Is Love " and you sip this and enjoy it with smoked fish and meats like turkey, smoked trout would be great, if you spinkle some dried cherries or cranberries on a salad with walnuts and some lovely vinaigrette salad of spinach leaves galore! $20.99 a bottle, with 13% alcohol by volume.

3) Agiorgitiko indigenous dry rose with some amber-rose coloring in the mid spectrum , a 2017 that is really a fine food wine to enjoy with more seasoned and flavorful dishes, some good dips that you can slip onto pita bread, some fresh hummus, mmmm good, this is a great way to have a delight in liquid form to marry well with a meal counterpart or two or three, yes, si oui! $13.49 a bottle,  I recently enjoyed some on my week-off with my family.

4) Voudomato 100%,  2017 is a rare, indigenous grape discovered by owner-winemaker George Gavalas of his own winery GAVALAS in Santorini, and it is a wonder to taste and experience with a hearty, robust, flavorful meal. This will brush quickly, expediently aaaahhhhhhhhway those flavors, cleansing your palate, refreshing and making you crave that solid taste back once again. Like a Tavel wine from France's Rhone valley, this is a big dry rose that makes no pretense to be dainty, quaint, quiet or tame - it is what it is, and it works, it really does. $26.49 a bottle, with 12.5% alcohol by volume. Cheers!

BEER & CIDER FROM SANTOS :

     1) Apricot Ale Unfiltered Wheat Ale from PYRAMID Breweries ( On Special for $5.99 a 6-pack of 12 ounce bottles, 5.1% alc. by volume, Seattle/Portland/ Berkeley ) is almost gone at this great deal so rush on over and get some while you still can!      2) Chocolate Stout with natural chocolate flavoring added, by ROGUE ( On Special for $6.99, for a 1 Pt. 6 Fl. Oz bottle, Newport, Oregon ) is dedicated to Sebbie Buhler, a ROGUE original that has been here in the store. " 12 ingredients, no chemicals, preservatives or additives : ebony in color with a rich creamy head. An earthy flavor of oats and hops that gives way to a rich chocolate finish ". It was nice to meet Sebbie years ago. I've got some nice pictures of her here in the store.
     3) "Hooligan Stout " Draft Ale OLD SCHOOLHOUSE Brewery ( $6.99. 1 Pt. 6 Fl Oz., Winthrop, WA. ) is " a robust dark beer made with lots of chocolate malts, designed for hooligans who demand something more from their beer ". Interesting, that's two chocolate stouts from Washington State. Is there something special in the air, the land, the state? Try both and have a blast. Cheers.

       CIDER :

     1) Hard Cider, American made, Julian, CA. JULIAN ( $7.99 a 22 Fl. Oz bottle, www.julianhardcider.biz, 6.99% Alc. by volume ): " One taste of our premium hard cider and you will experience why Julian Hard Cider is " American To The Core " ". Come check this out : it's new and special, too.

LIQUOR From RAVI :

     1) RIGHT Gin imported from Sweden ( On Special for $39.99, 40% alc. by volume, www.rightgin.com, Del Mar, CA. ) Est Unus Modus Verus. I love the label : two stags on their hind legs about to challenge the other? Great package. We need to do a tasting with it Ravi and give everyone a chance to try it. Tell Ravi when you come that you want him to organize a tasting of it. Cheers.
     2) Bourbon Whiskey Small Batch from CYRUS NOBLE Distilled In Kentucky with an original recipe from San Fransisco. This Barrel Select is $29.99, 45% alcohol by volume and made by the Haas brothers. Come check it out.
     3) " Death's Door " Washington Island Wisconsin gin ( $36.99, 47% alc. by volume, ) is made " with organic hard red winter wheat from Washington Island, WI. ... crafted with wild juniper berries and various organic botanicals ". The harvest was in August of 2010. Cheers. We have been selling it well and customers are asking for it by name including Umbi Singh the owner of the New Heights restaurant just last week that came in search of it because a customer of his had bought it here and recommended it highly to him. Umbi has a very large selection of gins for you all at his New Heights restaurant.      4) The Knot is produced and bottled in Ireland. It's 100 Proof, bottled by The Knot Irish Spirits Co. , Bailieboro county, Cavan, Ireland. Funny, it never tells you what it is on the front label. It's in our Irish whisky section. I do love the back label : " By cracking this seal of The Knot you accept ... You promise to drink The Knot straight up in a proper shot glass, rather than mixing it in some sort of novelty, tiny umbrella, fruit fiasco. And finally, you vow that you will never drink to anything that you are not prepared to go through with. ... " You have to come here and read the back yourselves. That's a commitment just like it is when cracking the seal. Sounds fascinating : an adventure. Cheers.

WINES From GREG & TONY :

       Reds :

     1) CHATEAU ROUX DE BEAUCES 2009 dry red Bordeaux Grand Vin 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon is showing really well for such a young wine and from such a great vintage and such an affordable price. We think you will all love it. Best with a meal : classic style.
      2) 2008 65% Cabernet Franc and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon from Virginia's WINEWORKS, Charlottesville. Made by Michael Shaps ( $16.99, 13% alc. by volume ) this dry red blend is showing really well. Alison Somerville that works with Michael Shaps was here this last Friday tasting it from 508PM with our customers along with the box wines of Viognier 2010 and the red Cabernet Franc 2009, $16.99 ( BOTH sell for $34.99 for the 3 liter box : that makes the 4 750ml bottles in the 3-liter only cost you all $8.75 : GREAT VALUE! ). The bottle of dry white 2009 Viognier that Alison poured as well on Friday also sells for $16.99 a bottle. Come check them all out. Include the boxes into the 12 or more 20% off on any still/ non-sparkling wines and have the cost come down to $27.99 or divide that by 4 and get $6.99 for a bottle of 750ml! What savings for these boxes of excellent VA. dry red and white wines. We also have the Chardonnay in the 3-liter box at $34.99.
     3) Cabernet Sauvignon stainless-steel ( no oak 750ml bottles ) from Gabriele Rausse ( $17.99, 13% alc. by volume ) is unique and perfect for this warmer weather. It's beautiful today but so often it is both hot and humid. Chill this bottle down for twenty or so minutes and enjoy. Gabriele started making this Cabernet Sauvignon in stainless-steel years ago because the oak barrels were simply too expensive for him. He liked what he got and so has always made one without oak. It's a pure delight to enjoy now. It was great to have Gabriele with us. It was like a trip down memory lane for me and I enjoyed hearing some of his stories about Virginia, the uphill battles, the personalities like Patricia Kluge ( he respects her desire to make the best wines that she could here in Virginia ) and Michel Rolland ( he learned some valuable lessons from Michel ). I came away from these three hours spent in Gabriele's company and realizing that he was a very patient and thoughtful and wise individual. I came away with a whole lot of respect and admiration for him. Gabriele thinks that this stainless-steel Cabernet Sauvignon may be his most famous wine.

       Roses :

     1) DOMAINE DE TOURTOUIL 2010 dry French Rhone from the famous Tavel region ( $17.99 ) is delicious and what a value it represents, too. This is a steal and one that you need to come and check on. It's a beauty!
     2) 2009 dry Malbec rose from Mendoza, Argentina from ANTIS is On Special for $9.99 and showing really well now. There is no edge to the wine and it's lovely with or without food. Great deal, too.
     3) 2011 ( our first 2011 rose in the store! ) dry Stellenbosch, South African DE MEYE Shiraz is a real treat for $13.99 and is really as fresh as they ever get. Come get some today and be one of the very first to drink some excellent dry rose. Medium-color and very pleasing. It will hold it's own against many a meal and is perfect for this heat now.
     4) CHATEAU ROUX DE BEAUCES dry blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot is quite deep-colored and very flavorful and a steal for many a well-seasoned meal at $10.99 a bottle. We are thrilled to have it here.

       Whites :
     1) 2010 Sauvignon Blanc California from AVALON ( $10.99, 13.8% alcohol by volume ) is " new and exciting and we are happy to have it along with the dry red Cabernet Sauvignon that does so well for us. We will open it sometime for you all to taste.
     2) CHATEAU ROUXDE BEAUCES dry white Grand Vin Entre-Deux-Mers white Bordeaux ( $11.99 ) is a blend of 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Semillon. It showed beautifully with the red and the rose the other day when our French rep Stephan brought them to us. We had to have them as they were really " new " to us and very pleasing and well-made wines as well with real charm and character.
     3) 2009 Viognier from Charlottesville, VA., made by Michael Shaps at WINEWORKS was showing really well this past Friday here in the store. I liked it better than the 2010 WINEWORKS Viognier in the 3-liter box because it was more full-flavored and multi-dimensional. I would rather drink it than the 2010. However, having said this I do believe that the 2010 in the box is more of a crowd-pleaser and easier to enjoy with this heat now. If I was on a picnic I believe that I would prefer the 2010 especially if I was outside.
     4) " The Novelist " Meritage California white blend from CONSENTINO Winery of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon 2007 ( a truly great year in California ) is On Special for $14.99 ( regularly $19.99, www.consentinowinery.com , 14.4% alcohol by volume ) is showing really well now. It's fully-developed and has some great mellow and seasoned oak and is impressive. I really liked it and could see enjoying this with a meal now or into the fall. Buy some and enjoy it sometime this year. It will be a treat anytime and it will get your attention.

       Sparkling :

     1) Prosecco from VILLA JOLANDA  from Veneto, Italy is back once again by popular demand and comes in the three 200ml bottles ( $11.99 for all three, 11.5% alcohol by volume ) and is bright and fresh and delightful. Come get some, you will love it! It makes great gifts as the bottles are sharp and look expensive and it's hard not to like it once you taste it : so pleasing.

It's such an inspiration to me, though. I love it. Some of my life's blood really : a treat and a pleasure and an honor. Much like being with many of you. MICHAEL ROSS TELLS ME that is an especially difficult time these days for the Cathedral Care Pharmacy. Things have not gotten any easier, only harder and that they may have to close after serving our community now for 90 years. If you want to help and hear any more please contact Michael Ross at : mross1949@aol.com or go to : http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/save-dcs-cathedral-care-pharmacy/. From my own humble opinion like so much retail today ( and as I am in retail myself and have been working for small businesses for thirty years ) it makes me think of David and Goliath. Being a small business as well I am very concerned and want to do whatever I can/ we can to keep Cathedral Care Pharmacy healthy and alive. Michael has told me recently some great stories about what they have done for their customers when they need help. It breaks my heart as well as inspires me these stories. Email Michael and get him to tell them to you. They are life-affirming and show the real meaning of community and those that are really there for you for the long run. We need more places like Cathedral Care Pharmacy that go the extra yard/two or three or four to serve and accommodate you when you most need it. Cheers and keep up the good work Michael. You are a true inspiration to us all.   TONY
