check for current vintages and current pricing and availability. TONY
MY SIMPLE ADVICE : Let's all
stick together and get through this somehow. We can do it, really we
can and are. It will be interesting how many of you our customers go to
the Mall on Saturday to see either John Stewart or Stephen Colbert? Anyway, we are running this 20% OFF SALE on WEDNESDAY( Oct, 27th ) and Thursday
( Oct, 28th ) on STILL ( non-sparkling ) WINES that also include
sherry, ports, madeiras, marsalas, sakes, box wines, jug wines, half
bottles and small 1'87 ml bottles, too. It's a TWO-PART SALE :
1) BUY ANY STILL WINE OVER $20 a bottle and SAVE 20%
2) BUY ANY TWELVE ( 12 ) bottles or boxes of still wines/ports/sherries/madeiras.marsalas/sakes and SAVE 20%.
THE SALE IS FOR EXISTING
INVENTORY already here in the store : it's not for special orders. It
also is a sale for still wines already ON SALE. You save another 20% OFF
those wines already ON SALE. I will mention some later.
IF YOU CANNOT GET HERE ON WEDNESDAY or THURSDAY email us ( respond to this email ) or call us and Chris and I will be happy to take care of anything that you wish.
DON'T MISS OUT : this is a great opportunity to stock up.
LOTS HAS BEEN HAPPENING and I have lots to report.
FOR EXAMPLE : the last Thursday, Oct. 21st around 6:30 PM
Sam Pepple ( cartographer ) walked through with his nice camera wearing
a suit followed by Miss Leopard and Mr. Zebra ( you can go to chatartist.blogspot.com, or chatwine.blogspot.com
and go to View Complete Profile on the home page. click it and scroll
down and hit chatart and it will come up with pictures and story and all
: ALSO : we are Facebook at clevelandparkwines&spirits to see the
pictures). They were here promoting the " new " blog page called :
popomnivore that you can now google that is part of the National
Geographic Magazine. The three of them were so nice and I got lots of
great pictures. You can also email Sam or telephone him for more info at
: spepple@ngs.org, Tel: 202-857-7017 for more info.
WE ALSO HAVE HAD TWO
SESSIONS where the store has been filmed in and outside the store, the
wine class, the wine-tastings, etcetera and I will share more of all of
this as it unfolds. For now you will simply have to remain in suspense.
Of course it is all good.
THE LAST " Big Theme "
Wine-Tasting with guests Andrew Stover ( of VINI%) SELECTIONS, also
sommelier at Oye restaurant ) and Michael Shaps ( win-maker at WINEWORKS
in Montiicello, VA. as well as of French burgundy wines SHAPS &
ROUCHER-SARAZIN ) was a huge success on Saturday Oct. 16th, 2010 from
1-5 PM and we have already reordered many of the wines.
OUR NEXT " Big Theme "
Wine-Tasting is on Saturday, November 6th, 2010 from 1-5 PM and will be
on " Holiday Wines & Gifts " and include ports, sherries. marsalas,
madeiras, sakes and all manner of wines that are appropriate for the
season and the cooler weather that is surely coming our way. We will
know more by the end of this week so please respond to this email and
inquire or ask us when you come to the store next. There is NEVER ANY
CHARGE for our wine-tastings so bring family and friends, Neighbors and
business associates - MAKE IT A DEFINING MOMENT for you all.
WINE CLASSES are going
extremely well but the last one ten people signed up and only four
showed up and so I will have to take a closer look at them and be sure
that this does not happen again as I believe firmly that it is something
that you will all grow to appreciate and anticipate with time. Please
let me know if you have any groups that you would like to bring here for
private-tastings as well as these small group tastings that we are
already holding here. These classes are for you and so let me know if
anyone is interested in coming this weekend, Saturday, Oct. 30th, 2010 (
from 11:30-1 PM ) to do an ALL-FRENCH wine-tasting that is more advanced. Cost is still $10 a person and that's for six wines. Call or email.
RECEIVED SOME GREAT SALE WINES from Robert Kacher Selections last week :
1) CHAMPAGNE,
Recoltant-Manipulant ( both the grower and the harvester and the maker
and bottler - everything done by the estate and thus controlled
perfectly by them - no unexpected, unfortunate surprises ) : PASCAL
DOQUET Bland De Blancs Chardonnay : ON SALE for $39.99, regularly $59.99
a bottle.
2) Pinot Noir Red Burgundy
( 100% Pinot Noir by law ) from the area of Vougeot that is beautiful
and small. I've been there before and spent a couple of hours driving
slowly around, stopping, parking, taking pictures, reflecting, soaking
up the sun's heat, the terrain, history and the tranquility of the
place. This CHAUVENET-CHOPIN from the 2007 vintage is ON SALE for
$46.99, reg: $62.99 a bottle.
3) Pinot Noir Red Burgundy
( 100% Pinot Noir by law ) from the area of Pommard , the "
lesser-known " Les Vignots " region, this 2007 was tasted here this past
Friday by both Lauren and Ronnie Miller of the Robert Kacher portfolio ( from 5-8PM
with our customers ) and it showed brilliantly. It's from Xavier MONNOT
a young and very talented wine-maker. He was here as a matter of fact
two years ago and was tasting with Herve Ganthier of Corbieres ( CH DE
LA EUGENIE ) and they tasted their wines here together then for our
customers, Without knowing it we did the same tasting in effect wines
from the same tow owners. What are the chances of that without
premeditation?!? Anyway, all the wines really showed well this past Friday
here on October 22nd, 2010. BUY SOME WHILE YOU STILL CAN, this is a
very elegant and refined wine for a great price, especially if you take
another 20% OFF on either Wednesday or Thursday.
AND FOR ROBERT KACHER " Values " :
1) CHATEAU GRANDE CASSAGNE Costieres de Nimes dry rose - beautiful deep color, lose yourselves in it, $9.99.
2) DOMAINE DE GOURNIER
2009 dry rose , French Vin Pays Des Cevennes,: also amazingly rich-hued
colors where the sun get almost trapped inside, $9.99.
3) " Le Clos " from Herve
Ganthier mentioned above in Corbieres, southwest, France this dry red
blend of 45% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Carignan and 20%
Grenache - this 2008 is showing beautifully now. Very enjoyable and
smooth and balanced. Great value, too.
4) Sauvignon Blanc or the "
other " white blend of Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc dry whites both from
DOMAINE DU TARIQUET ( $9.99 ) are delightful, balanced, flavorful,
vibrant and bright French whites from the Cotes Du Gascogne region. The
famous chef Jean-Luis Palladin came from this
region.
WE JUST HAD ABEL SOZA of his
own Uruguayan Wines Imports come to taste two " new wines from J.
CHIAPPELLA that quite literally impressed me a whole lot! They are on
the water and will be here shortly.
1) BODEGAS J. CHIAPPELLA'S Dry Rose Cabernet Franc 2009 with great body, color , grip , heart and soul!
2) BODEGAS J. CHIAPPELLA'S
hybrid French grape made in Montpelier , France and called the Marselan
is a cross between the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Grenache grapes and
in this case with this 2008 the result is quite elegant, bright and
smooth with very little bite an less tannins and acids, too : more
emphasizing the fruit.
Thanks Abel, look forward to selling these soon.
IMPORTER DANNY HAAS came by
the other day with Sal Furfari of Bacchus Imports and I asked him what
he recommended that was really " hot " and special now and on his list
was :
1) 100% Sauvignon Blanc
from the French Loire town of Sancerre, this 2009 VINCENT DELAPORTE (
$26.49 ) has always consistently over-performed for what it is. I've
always been a fan myself and am happy to have it back in the store.
Thanks Danny.
2) " Nature " PERRIN 2009
Biodynamic French southern Rhone Cotes Du Rhone, $13.99 is another that
Danny recommended and it's great to have it back as well. I especially
like the fact that it's biodynamic.
It's always great to see you
Danny, Give my best to the old crow the next time that you see her. I
was looking at pictures of you and her and her husband just the other
day at home. I must scan them and post them on my blogspot.chatwine site
sometime soon with a full disclosure of how she came by that name that
you gave her so many years ago. Cheers Danny ...
WINEMAKER THINAS KRUGER of BOSCHENDAL , Franschoek, South Africa was here this past Saturday
tasting his wines on Oct. 23rd,2010 from 1-5 PM and we tasted the 2008
BOSCHENDAL Sauvignon Blanc and the 2008 BOSCHENDAL Chardonnay 2008 (
BOTH selling for $16.49. We also used the BOSCHENDAL Chardonnay 2008 for
our wine class and I really liked it ). I tasted both at the
wine-tasting side-by-side with our customers and I must say that for the
very first time in a long time I preferred the Chardonnay to the
Sauvignon Blanc. It was smoother and more bright and rounder, richer,
with less-bite and less-attack and I just liked how it rested and seeped
into my palate so effortlessly, the Chard that is. Bravo on both, but
for me especially bravo for the Chardonnay!

fresh and fine and sells for $9.99 a bottle, Great stone image label,
