SAL JUST CAME By and said : " Samplers?!? Wow, what a great idea,
twenty-five years later after the Mayflower Wine And Spirits and the first
time I am seeing these samplers, what a great idea ... ", and he picked one
up, looked at it , and smiled. Thanks Sal, we appreciate that. you
remember, so do I, after all, I did work there : one of the best
experiences ever for me that I still treasure and remember fondly.
BY THE WAY, the six-bottle wine samplers are off and starting to do well
here and we are selling this current spring assortment of two dry rose
wines, two dry red wines and two dry whites for $79.99 a 6-pack, a savings
of $15 off the marked bottle prices. Come get one and give it as a gift or
enjoy it yourselves.
CHARLES Just Came By and said : " Satva, great mattresses, look it up,
planned obsolescence " with so many of the ' new ' matresseses he
continued. His wife Pamela liked the hand-written note I gave Charles for
them. I like writing notes still, a dying art, but brings a smile to my
face each and every time that I write or see one. Cheers. Thanks Charles
for the heads-up on Satva.
Wine By Chris & Tony :
1) Chenin Blanc 2013 Fairtrade from FAIRVALLEY inW.O. Western Cape, South
Africa, $$11.99, with 13% alcohol by volume. This is smooth and bright and
crisp and a touch tart and tangy, and bracing even, and wonderful for this
spring weather of ours. It is in our 6-bottle sampler and it would have
been wonderful this weekend sitting outside and enjoying a lunch and
looking out and about as literally before your eyes the trees start to
sprout small amounts of green at their many branch tips.
2) Tannat 2012 ( great year in Serra Gaucha ) ' Intenso ' dry red from
SALTON. I enjoyed the last of it after Michael Cavanagh tasted it here this
past Friday night with you all. What was left in the bottle at the end of
Saturday night came home with me and I shared it with our neighbor and our
ILDA pool neighborhood gents, Jim and Brian that came to pick-up things for
their pool auction to raise money.
WE DONATED things and that brought a huge smile to my wife's face, and I
invited them to taste some Chilean wines DOS PASOS, ALMA, IN SITU, and also
the ' Father's Watch ' red Rhone Sonoma Coast blend from KIVEL STADT
Cellars , On Special, also in our 6-pack sampler , for $19.99 instead of
$24.99 a bottle). Both the SALTON Tannat 2012, On Special for $13.99, ...
both tasted really fine even after being open almost three days. SO : the
SALTON and the KIVEL STADT improved for me, they did not diminish in any
noticeable way, I liked them better, especially the KIVEL STADT that really
did soften and brighten and reveal more of it's inner core. What fun.
3) Zinfandel ' The Heart ' from California's Mendocino County, from IL
CUORE, $14.49, 14.1% alcohol by volume, is smooth and very fruit-forward, I
like it, medium-to-light-bodied, really nice, no need for any food, you may
sip this all by itself.
4) Fateasca Neagra 2011, DOC-CT from Husi, Romania, thi s ' Glia ' ,
$14.99, is made from this indigenous grape Fateasca Neagra, and is showing
so well now, only 5,090 bottles produced, and the flavors have matured
nicely here and the wine is showing really well. But do not take my word,
come taste it and see what you think with Razvan and Gabriella the next
Friday, April 24th, 2015 from 5-8PM here.
5) ' Clos Lojen ' 2012 from Spain's Manchuela region, this indigenous Bobal
, $16.99, 13.5% alcohol by volume, is really evolving nicely and showing a
fullness, and a ripeness , brightness that is exciting and flavorful and
balanced. This is good wine, really good wine. I like it, you all have, too
every time that our local rep Amy tasted it with you all here. It is even
further along on it's journey to complete and wonderful enlightenment,
enlightenment for all of us, too. Cheers.
6) ' The Lady of Naoussa ' NAOUSSEA, Greece, a 2008 Oynth Kthma, $16.99,
13% alcohol by volume, blew me away when I tasted it last. I loved it, I
absolutely loved it, that is why it is here for you all to discover and
enjoy it's many wonders and charms. Earthy and pithy, a spicy, rustic, with
lots of gamey flavors, nothing exactly polished or refined, more the guts
of the grapes, the brute natural strength and varnished glories and
weaknesses of this indigenous Xinomavro grape as it struggles to dig deeper
roots and survive in this Naoussa region of Greece. It succeeds, too.
TIME For BEER from Santos :
1) ' Or Xata ' Blonde Ale brewed with rice from The BRUERY , a 2015 Edition
On Special at $12.99 a bottle, in a 1 Pt. 9.4 Fl. Oz bottle, with cinnamon
and vanilla beans added , from Placentia, CA. Looks so inviting! I like the
label and packaging a lot.
2) ' Reserve Series' Raspberry Stout ' from HARDYWOOD, $10.99, a 1 Pt.
9.4Fl. Oz bottle in a 2015 release. We just got this, customers were asking
for it ( " the berries were grown by AgrBerry - cultivate a taste for life
- ", made in Richmond, Virginia by the HARDYWOOD PARK CRAFT Brewery.
3) ' Del's Shandy ' from NARRAGANSETT, refreshingly different, beer with
natural lemon flavor, a recipe from great grandmother DeLucia made the
first frozen lemonade back in Italy in 1840. That goes back quite awhile.
You need to try this, from Providence, Rhode Island : this sounds like a
great idea, especially when temperatures start to really soar as they did
yesterday and Sunday! In cans, a 6-pack, 16 Fl. Oz, with 4.7% alcohol.
4) ' District Common ' , a common style lager, a 6-pack of 12-ounce cans,
$11.99 a 6-pack, with 5.1% alcohol, brewed here in Washington D.C., try
with lemon chicken, local oysters and/or pork medallions. This is all
making me both hungry and thirsty, and so I am going to take my lunch break
now and return soon! Cheers.
LIQUEUR / LIQUOR From Jagir & Malkit :
1) Citronge Extra Fine Lime Liqueur , a Premium Reserve On Special for
$25.99 a 750ml bottle, from PATRON. This is really new and exciting, and '
cutting-edge ', too!
2) The Original NOCELLO Walnut Italian Liqueur from TOSCHI, $31.99 a 750ml
bottle, 24% alcohol by volume.
3) Batavia-Arrack Van Oosten , a Dutch East Indies Trading, Ltd. in Batavia

celebration of all things then exotic - citrus, sugar, and spice , no Punch
was without a true Batavia Arrack."
4) Blended Scotch Whisky Malt Grain Whisky ASYLA : " aged in first fill
American oak casks, delicate, elegant in style, with vanilla and soft fruit
character. " says whiskymaker John Glaser. Something to taste, something to
ponder and enjoy fully. Make some time to enjoy this special whisky.
