Happy TUESDAY! SUNNY NOW, clear skies, will we get snow?!?
Wow, I wrote that two years ago and here we have had some nice weather on
Monday and are now expecting snow later today with some more on Wednesday
night, early Thursday morning! It is a sign! I Love it, you just never
know.
COME & STOCK UP TONIGHT just in case! We are prepared for you.
I wrote that, too a couple of years ago and it also stands true for today.
It is also another sign. I love signs, really I do. Come and get what you
need, especially as Sunday was so bad with all that sleet that froze and
was hard to walk on without fearing for your life.
... lots of snow perhaps? hard to get around, navigate the streets, metro
down, ...
I also wrote the above two years ago, sort of fascinating. SO : come get
what you need here just in case..
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE there are fewer than twenty days left before spring
and that is great. That is cheerful and encouraging, and I am thrilled
about that, really I am as we need some weather that is not so difficult or
hard to navigate. The last thing any of us need is to slip and break our
hip and be on crutches or in bed when we all have so much constant work to
do and that we cannot afford to delay.
I STARTED MY DAY selling an assortment of twenty-four bottles to Mandy of
Peruvian wines, reds, whites and roses for an auction and fundraiser that
they are doing. That was inspiring as we are the only ones she contacted
that actually had the wines to sell her here in Washington D.C. We started
with them, the TACAMA and the SANTIAGO QUEIROLO wines, she left me with one
lonely bottle here of the ' Vino de la Magdalena Reservado ' semi-sweet red
wine, $13.99, 14.5% alcohol by volume.
I TASTED these wines with Danielle three or four months ago and liked what
was selected, some of the more expensive wines I did not like at all,
finding a metalic or sharp edge that just did not work for me so I did not
order those, even though one was a Malbec and would have been easy to sell
just because of that.
NEED a delivery? call us :2020-363-4265. We will be happy to come see you
with whatever you need and that we have in stock.
SO : wow, we are suffering at our house from having watched the last
episode of Downton Abbey where there were at least two references to claret
and one to a fine Margaux red. My ears pricked up immediately when I heard
those words and I will mention two that we have here that you may want to
come by and purchase if you have not yet watched the season finale? Both
are from the excellent 2010 vintage.
1) CHATEAU LAVAGNAC 2010 Bordeaux, $16.99 a bottle, mis en bouteille
au chateau, 13% alcohol by volume, flavorful, complex, good definition,
good lively, flavor-forward taste and excellent with a meal, It is really
best with a meal, and it represents a great deal.
2) Grand Vin De Margaux, from CHATEAU MONBRISON, 2010 , $61.99, 13.5%
alcohol by volume, from Laurent Vonderheyden that spent time here in the
Washington D.C. metropolitan region while his brother made the wine. When
Laurent returned to Bordeaux and Margaux he started making the wine. We did
an incredible dinner in the past at Lavandou restaurant with Laurent
presiding over the dinner and introducing each wine with each course,
vintages of 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005 I believe? What a special time that
was. Cheers. Come get a couple of bottles, one to enjoy now and one to lay
down.
I May Have To Have a glass of one of these myself tonight. Sounds like a
great idea as it will be cold and a good glass of claret might be just the
thing.

vins. "
I agree, subtle notes of fruit and of flowers do come through both the
bouquet and the taste to charm and please us all if we take the time to
slow down, and appreciate these lovely nuances that are generally reserved
for the gods ... but here available to us, too.

Marlborough, On Special for $15.99 a bottle, regularly $19.99, with great
freshness and intensity, lighter-bodied, with a bouquet of lime, lemon, and
grapefruit, fine structure and acidity and so really great aging potential,
too : no need to rush through it.
2) Gewurztraminer 2011, an Estate wine, from Elgin, South Africa and
from PAUL CLUVER, $15.99 a bottle, with good mouth-weight, excellent
balance and clarity of taste and richness, too. I like it, drank some with
Paul Cluver himself when he was last here.

distinct, all pure and focused and distinct and secure in their identities
as grapes from these particular areas of Nelson, New Zealand. Perfect for

1) ' Lozen ' 2011, an elegant dry red blend of 35% Merlot, 32%
Cabernet Franc, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petite Verdot, with 14.2%
alcohol by volume, I really like the subtle, the fruit-forward, the cadence
and the freshness and brightness with little-or-none of the weight or the
oppressive columns of flavor that are like hitting your head on them with
no give and no entering beyond and to the center of the flavors.
I like this Lozen and it can age and improve a whole lot more : it is just
starting it's journey here, even though it is already a 2011 : buy some and
drink one a year to see where you can go together.
