Snowqualmie, Northstar and Long Shadow Tasted 3/10/2010 @ Cleveland Park Wine & Spirits Big Theme - 33 Wines - Tasting From 5:30-8:30 PM " the headline should finish.
Pictured above is Ben Giliberti that used to write the wine columns for the Washington Post newspaper and that lives in our community. I told him about the tasting the week before and it's nice to see that he made it for our Washington State " Big Theme " Wine-Tasting that we try and hold once every two months at the store as it gives us a chance to focus on and share thirty to forty different wines on a specific topic , region, grape variety, country, whatever. It's always a whole lotta fun and a big crowd shows up of all ages and all experiences each and every time. This one was very well-attended as you will see from these photos as it's always three hours and goes from 5:30-8:30 PM on a Wednesday evening.
We ever charge at these Big Theme wine-tastings and are able to conduct them thanks to the generosity and help of our wholesalers and reps and even sometimes wine owners and wine-makers. Everyone is welcome of course : the more the merrier. We always sell lots of wine as well and then have the whole month or more to promote the wines in Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits ( 3423 Connecticut Avenue N.W. Washington D.C. 20008 Tel : 202-363-4265 sales@clevelandparkwine.com www.clevelandparkwine.com ) on this particular theme. Everyone wins. The Champagne/Sparkling Wine / Bubbly Wine-Tasting is the clear favorite so far that we always hold at the start of each December.
This Washington State " Big Theme " Wine-Tasting we held on March 10th, 2010 and had Republic-National, Bacchus Wholesaler, Monument Distributors and Lanterna Selections all pouring wines : that was five tables with seven people pouring, two women and five men : Chris Lanning, Chris of Monument, Jon of Columbia Crest, Linda of Columbia Crest, Chris of Lanterna and Sal Furfari of Bacchus. They all got to the store early and got set up and we were off pretty much just after they arrived, a few minutes early. That's okay, as long as they have their wines ready to pour we are in great shape.
We wanted to have a whole selection of wines to chose from in price, style and grape variety from reds to whites to sweeter wines, too. We did not have any bubbly at this tasting or any red port-style wines either.
Over the next few days I will continue to write this and fill-in with all the wines that we did taste and their prices. The pictures tell a lot about the tasting and the wines as I took a number of pictures of the wines themselves.
I have another one or two blogs to add to this one where I have downloaded the pictures and still need to write the text. This one so far is mainly of CHATEAU STE. MICHELE, COLUMBIA CREST, NXNW, NORTHSTAR, SHOOTING STAR and SNOQUALMIE. I will soon add the others as everything tasted was of equal importance as Washington State has many larger wineries and many very mall ones, too : and we tasted from a cross-section of these wineries as to give a larger view of what one can expect and enjoy thoroughly when drinking a Washington State wine.
Cheers and stay-tuned for more as soon as I can get to it and as fast as my fingers will type and my energy stays with me into the wee hours of the night or the morn... TONY
