MASCIARELLI Regional Brand Manager David Abbott & Marcie Weinstein Visit CPW 2/2010 & Taste Releases Available Here & In Abruzzo, Italy

My eyes open once again to marvels of the Trebbiano grape when well made!

This was an incredible visit for me and I have delayed way too long in at least posting the first installment of this blog. I took many notes and I tried many fine wines : all classic and traditional and best for the most part when served with a meal. However, having said that I must add quickly that the soft, dry, flavorful and full-tasting rose on the palate is pretty satisfying. Your eyes see the deep color of this smooth dry rose as the light infiltrates into it and some bounces of it - visually very stimulating as well. This one may be enjoyed sitting outside somewhere chatting to a friend and listening as all the while life happens around you. Nice.

It's always nice when a map is brought along to help show us where the property/winery is located and it's relation to other landmarks. Thanks for bringing one David. Nice touch : nice mustard-colored yellows.

As you may see in the sheet above I have the names of the many wines ( ten here ) that I sampled this morning with just four of the bottles so far on display : and as yet no notes. By the end of this tasting, however, there were plenty of notes here.

Marcie Weinstein of Constantine Imports in Maryland brought the MASCIARELLI Mid-Atlantic Brand Manager David Abbott with her to taste me on these ten reds and white. David I soon discovered was very passionate about these wines that he represents here in the U.S. as well as equally inspired by the owner Joahnie ( is that how it is spelled? ) that recently passed away. David told me that he still cannot bring himself to speak about him in the past tense as he feels he is still very much alive as a person as well as in his wines and what and those that he leaves behind. I wish that I had had the opportunity to meet him.

Some of the wines were in stock at Constantine Imports in Maryland but many were still at the winery in Abruzzo, Italy. This visit was a way to get a sense of what customers might be interested in purchasing immediately as well as for the next few months to come.

I will continue this soon. Scroll down now and enjoy these pictures and the text at the end here that I wrote earlier before posting these picture. Stay-tuned for more. Cheers, TONY

P.S. It's now Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 at 9:25 AM as I post this here from my home before driving to work to sell more wine including MASCIARELLI. The dry rose would be lovely for someone to enjoy as the sun comes out and it warms up after yesterday's rainfall.

It was great to meet David Abbott of MASCIARELLI the other morning when Marcie Weinstein our Constantine rep brought him by to taste the current releases available to us. I really enjoyed meeting him and tasting his wines as I have now represented them for many years.

I was just thinking about when my connection with MASCIARELLI first started? Was it back at Burka's Fine Wines or even before that at the Mayflower Wines & Spirits? I simply cannot recollect exactly now. I do know that by the time that I began working for Alfio Mariconi and Marvin Stirman the owners of Wines, Lmt. that I was selling them just like Marcie to any store or restaurant that would like to purchase and sell them. That was back in the early nineties and I enjoyed having them as part of my Wines Lmt. portfolio of excellent " value " wines.

For me the MASCIARELLI wines from the Abruzzo area of Italy are all made in a traditional manner and are made with the idea of that together with food both the wine and the foods will complement each other and provide for a very satisfying meal indeed. I'd also like to say that when I tasted them recently that they still impressed me and that on this time-around I learned more about the really superb white Trebbiano wines with their layers of complexity and textures and bold minerals and intense fruit and citrus centers. Impressive : we will have to buy and sell some of them - draw attention to them.

Cheers and stay-tuned for more on each of these wines. TONY
