sold a lot of wine over these few days when everyone has been snow-bound and a bit stir-crazy, too and so it's been good to have everyone come here as they need. It's been especially nice to be open and available as a destination for many of our customers. We have been out of many things and so everyone has had to settle for what we actually do have now on our shelves.
As I have said more will start to come back today as the wholesalers resume their deliveries.
Today, Friday 12th, 2010 we have Jody Jackman of Winebow Imports coming to pour some wines for Valentine's Day which is just around the corner. She will pour some Commanderie desssert wine from Crete as well as some Portuguese red that is soft and fruit-driven and simply nice to sip.
I will include the names of these as I go along. The Commanderie is called KEO, that much I know and the bottle sells for $20.99 and it sure is amazing. Medium-to-light-bodied, like a really refined sherry with that lovely burnt caramel, golden coloring. It has so many nutty and caramel and honey nuances of toasty/roasted flavors and won't stop even after you swallow. The finish is lovingly long ...
Our tasting tonight with Jody starts at 5 PM and goes through 8 PM. You should come taste with Jody : she's very entertaining and has so much information to share in a relaxed and enjoyable way.
If you come to tonight's tasting check out these amazing icicles that we have out back in our alley way. They sure are impressive. I'm glad that Chris Barker pointed them out to me last night as I headed out the back to join Ravinder Sharma that was nice enough to drive me part of the way home after work so that my wife and son could pick me up just inside 95 at the Federal Express store.
Enjoy and stay warm and be safe and careful navigating our Cleveland Park neighborhood streets that are still largely a mess. The intersections here of Ordway and Macomb with Connecticut Avenue N.W. are still largely huge slushy, icy, watery and slippery messes. You have to be especially careful when crossing. However, having said that you have us to look forward to with so many marvelous wines like this YEALANDS Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc that sells for $11.99 and is biodynamic, sustainable agriculture and as carbon-free as a wine can be. On top of that it tastes so smooth and bright and fresh and lively and balanced. Many of our customers have switched to drinking it these last four months or so : ever since owner Peter Yealand ( used to be a part-owner of Oyster Bay and sold his share to buy and create land for Yealands ) came to visit followed by wine-maker Tamra Washington. Alfredo of Billington Imports first made me aware of YEALANDS. Thanks everyone ... you did your part and now we are doing ours ...
This green box of YEALANDS Sauvignon Blanc was delivered yesterday and is now on our shelf. Jody sells it to us from Winebow Imports and we are happy to have it on the shelf for all of you out there that love it so much now.
Cheers and stay-tuned for more. TONY
