Eatin' A Going To Be Going On Today On This Fat Tuesday Of Ours Covered In
A Blanket Of Snow And The Sun's Wondrous Glare, too As It Reflects Off Of
Everything!
No, No Wine Dinner planned this week but I am sure I can be convinced to
open a bottle of something nice and share it with you all today as so many
of you are off from work!
It Would Be My Pleasure to share some wine with you today. I will just have
to see what I have up my sleeve today. I will have to remove my thick OASIS
black and well-worn, loved thick pull-over that is showing some of its age
like I am.
It is going to be casual here today as everyone is off. This will be a more
than usual chatty email as I am going to be helping more of you than usual
as you will all be off and maybe would enjoy coming by for whatever you may
need to celebrate a ' day-off ', and Mardi Gras, too?!?
We also have Chinese New Year coming this week and come and share any ideas
about that that you might have? I would love to hear them, really I would.
Al is well here. The bank is closed I am told. I need to send our son some
money that might have to wait till tomorrow? Oops, how can you plan for
weather like this?
Driving to work this morning had its challenges, mostly getting dug-out of
my parking spot and and our cul-de-sac and then getting into my parking
spot here were the biggest challenges. I loved my drive and looking for
spots of blue sky and seeing all the snow on the tree limbs above, crossing
over the Teddy Roosevelt Bridge, passing the Iwo Jima Memorial and the Bell
Tower just after that, and Rock Creek Parkway, and the lions and the bison
that guard our entrance to the National Zoo all covered in snow earlier. I
have posted pictures of all this on our Facebook page earlier for you all
to enjoy. It is a slice of life here in and just outside of Washington D.C.
I should mention that trying to get up Cathedrale Avenue was quite a
challenge, and that trying to make a right turn onto Connecticut Avenue,
N.W. had my car wheels spinning like crazy, but I did make it, I did manage
it. You just have to go surely and steadily and not panic, just push
forward and not stop still you make it through whatever impediments. Easier
said than done I am afraid.
SO : Without further Ado let's talk some ale and beer :
ALE & BEER from Santos :
1) DC BRAU Green Label IPA in cans , $12.99 a 6-pack of 12-ounce cans is
here and available. I have to mention DC BRAU because a few days ago coming
to work I saw a DC BRAU truck on Little River Turnpike in Annanadale,
Virginia and it made me smile thinking that DC BRAU has really come a very
long way baby in quite a short space of time. Bravo DB BRAU!
2) " Deliria " a Blond Belgian Ale from DELIRIUM ( a limited edition
special brewed by women ) , $12.99 a 1 Pt. 9.4 Fl. Oz bottle is
back-in-stock for the moment as it is still available to us. Charlotte that
is new to our neighborhood along with Emi , asked for it the other Friday
and I thought we had it but, in fact, we were out. Charlotte and I had
quite the conversation about it and I have enjoyed telling this story since
quite a few times. I have to tell it face-to-face, it is too odd to include
here, but Charlotte beat me at my own word games! Bravo Charlotte, you
surprised and made me smile broadly. Thank you.
3) Elder Brett Saison-Brett Golden Ale from EPIC BREWING " Exponential
Series " , this is aged in wine barrels, and is made as a collaboration
with Crooked Stave Brewing, brewed in Salt Lake City. This is only one of a
few thousand bottles released. To find out more go to : www.epicbrewing.com
for more info. Cheers, when you find out what all the fuss is about come by
and tell us or call us at : 202-363-4265. Can't wait to hear more ...
stay-tuned.
4) India Pale Ale an unfiltered IPA from LONG TRAIL Brewing Co., On Special
for $8.99 a 6-pack of 12-ounce bottles. We poured three of the LONG TRAIL
from Vermont this past Saturday here just before the storm and winds hit us
hard. Patrick our local rep was here pouring and we had quite the tasting,
lots of fun, lots of activity, lots of snow! So, ' Take a hike! ' is the
logo, and the wind and the snow must have come down from Vermont to give us
all a real sense and feel for where there LONG TRAIL ales are brewed and
created for us. Nice.
Thanks Patrick. I posted pictures of this tasting and of the snow and wind
outside on Connecticut Avenue this past Saturday. Go to our Facebook page
at : Cleveland Park Wine and Spirits and check this all out, even the video
I made of the storm. Drink some LONG TRAIL IPA while you watch the video.
Now that is some real excitement for you today on Fat Tuesday.
5) ' Red Nose ' Winter Ale from NATTY GREENE'S Brewing Company, from
Greensboro, North Carolina, On Special for $10.99 a 6-pack of 12-ounce
bottles, 6.8% alcohol by volume, : " A full-bodied ale brewed with fresh
ginger, orange peel and cinnamon " is a real treat for this real cold and
white carpet of snow and piles of it at the crosswalks and at the
intersections of our roads like Macomb Street now that are difficult to
navigate to say the very least.
LIQUEUR and LIQUOR from Malkit and Jagir :
1) Expresso Liqueur from AVION is made with Avion silver tequila, and this
375ml bottle ( half-bottle ) is On Special here for $11.99, with 35%
alcohol by volume,... " Avion Expresso is an exclusive blend of aromatic
dark roasted Italian espresso and Avion Silver Tequila. Voted World's Best
Tasting Tequila. This unique liqueur is rich with flavor, full-bodied and
delicious."
I like the bottle shape and color and packaging : all inviting for this
intense brightness and cold and frost and slush from so much snow
everywhere that makes it hard to get from one place to another. That is
exciting, frontier-like here in Washington D.C., 20008 : good to have
something waiting when we get home like this AVION Expresso....
2) American Single Malt Whisky from DEFIANT is distilled from 100% Malted
Barley and pure mountain spring water, $42.99 a bottle, made by BLUE RIDGE
Distilling Co. in Golden Valley, NC, 82 proof 41% alcohol by volume.
We bought if for a customer that wanted some, he was nice enough to give me
a taste, and I must say he was right about it being quite smooth and
velvety, nice to sip slowly and spread the glow and the warmth, too, a
blush of everything like a beautiful added layer of clothing, a slow-roast,
a simmering toast, ... sit back, smile, feel quite grand. Beautiful color,
too ... all just right.
3) Islay Dry Gin 22 Foraged Island Botanicals " The Botanist " , distilled
from 100% grain neutral spirits, On Special for $44.99 a 750ml bottle, ...
" ... layered complexity, a progressive exploration of our Isle of Islay ,
nine classic ginbotanicals are augmented by 22 local herbs and flowers
foraged responsibly by hand from the hills, shores and bogs of the fertile
Hebridian island ... " I love the clear bas-relief writing that covers the
clear-rounded glass bottle squat shape. unique and fun.

region of northern Burgundy, from the town called Fixin, this DOMAINE

several dreams current and past true and coming alive as we speak and sip,
til our heads back, close our eyes, hold the wine long on our palate,
swallowing slowly and savoring the rush and the flow, the lilt and the lull
and the explosion of subtle flavors that take hold, find their place in

Saturday, February 21st, 2015 ( 2-6PM ) : We have Andrew Stover here to
taste some of his great American, lesser-known wines and states. Though
with his hard work and that of others like us and many fine retailers and
restaurants, too the word is getting out now. I am thinking that to taste
three wines from Arizona's ARIZONA STRONGHOLD Winery is a great start.
Andrew will be by today and we will finalize our plans for this Saturday
tasting here.
THANK YOU ALL for everything, come by and chat, come and hang some with us,
I have a feeling there will be a real rush of you really soon as you
finally get out and start your day in earnest as you realize it is sunny
outside and the snow is melting quickly and you might just enjoy a stroll
and getting some exercise climbing through and around the slush and glare
of sunshine everywhere. What fun. Thanks again. We are here, waiting and
ready for you.
WHAT Follows below is an old store email, read and enjoy it, too if you have time. TONY 2/17/2015
