In fact the harvest time is approaching and I would take this opportunity to update you about the general conditions: here in Tuscany the summer time has begun very late since we got lots of rain and low temperature for the most part of the 2013! We got just one month and half of real summer (from July to half August) and now we have sun, nice temperatures (max 28 C°) and a big variation of temperature between night and day (that helps the aromas of the wine).
At this stage the vineyards are in good conditions: no diseases, good vegetation, good quantity of grapes per vine, but we will probably start picking the grapes about 10/15 days later than the usual.
Also if the “real picking” will start later, next week we will make some first selection in the vineyards in order to let only the best grapes ripe perfectly. It seems that the weather will be mainly good but also a bit unstable therefore it’s quite hard to make our schedule. Anyway the harvest time is always a bit stressful but also very exciting!
THanks Miriam, wish I were there. Our son is as you know. Wish we were there with him visiting you, helping you with the harvest : what fun! Will have to do it sometime. Cheers, Happy Friday, September 6th, 2013 ... it's beautiful here. Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn
