THIS IS ALWAYS THE FEELING THAT I GET when it's the first of any month. Here we are on Tuesday, February 2nd , 2010 and I am just starting to write this store email at 1:45 PM and I just told Ravi that at least I now have lots to write about. That's always good : after all we are being to be awash once again in many varied and really fine wines in all price brackets. Of course this is equally true for our beer and liquor and I will devote some time to all of these categories soon. The office is brimming and ready to explode at the seams with items to shine our light on, trying to get your attention. That's the name of the game : for starters, that is. Then it's what we make you do with your attention that either works brilliantly or not. Of course we always want to work brilliantly.

FEBRUARY 2010 IS ABOUT MORE VALUES. Here are some UNDER TEN $$$$$ DOLLAR $$$ WINES to tempt you :

       1) 2001 CANTARRANES " Reserva Old Vines " 100% Monastrell ( same word as Mourvedre, a French Rhone grape that does so well in Spain as well ). This is from the Alicante region in Spain and comes from the greAT 2001 VINTAGE AND IS ONLY $7.99. WHAT A DEAL!

       2) 2009 ALTO TIERRUCA  " NUESTRO TERROIR  " , $7.99 is another great value from Chile's  D.O. Lontue Valley. It's a reserva bottling from VINEDOS ERRAZURIZ OVALLE S.A. Errazuriz makes some really fine wines : here's an unbelievable value, too along with the dry red Cabernet Sauvignon.

I'M RUNNING OUT OF TIME HERE and it's almost the SUPER BOWL time this weekend and I have lost part of my email that was not saved here unfortunately and I am not a computer expert and so be it! I wish I knew how to find things like that as I have worked very hard yesterday to type it and wines are now flowing through our doors and as well as many beers and liquors and it's almost general pandemonium here as we get ready to celebrate one of the biggest weekend's of the year and think about the impending snow - lots of it - and also there's Valentine's Day coming around the corner.

I'VE BEEN READING JULIA CHILD and her day's in France and I am amazed to read that even back then they faced in France many of the problems that they are facing now. I'm fighting a small battle to reintroduce the American public to the French " original " Malbec from Cahors ; the Lot region south of Bordeaux where the cassoulet meal is so famous with white beans and lamb and other fun/tasty ingredients. Try this :
the CHATEAU De GAUDOU 2006 Cahors red blend of mostly Malbec with some Merlot and some Tannat. It sells for $13.99 and we have enjoyed selling it here over the last four or more years.

I'M INSPIRED NOW too to both eat and cook French and what does any of that have to do with the SUPER BOWL? Well, you could consider drinking some of the excellent French wines that we currently have in stock and I have already written extensively about many of them. But I will include some here now :  SUPER BOWL Here We Come -

     FRENCH :

       1)  Muscadet, DOMAINE De La CHAUWINIERE Sur Lie Sevre Et Maine, 2008 $11.99 : our best everyday value for consistently excellent Muscadet/Melon de Bourgogne dry fresh, bright white high in minerals and citrus overtones and always an excellent wine to have with mussels and oysters and goat's cheese and dips and everything nice - during the Super Bowl game ...

       2) Dry White Rhone Valley French White Blend : DOMAINE BRUSSET, 2008, " Les Travers " from Cairanne, this immensely flavorful, complex white Cotes Du Rhone Villages, $21.99 impressed both Chris and me with all it's extra flavor, complexity and yet focus and grand promise for so many great things to come ...  This will hold it's own against many a flavorful Super Bowl dip when you want something special and out of the ordinary.

       3) Sancerre, 2008 DOMAINE CROCHET of Dominique and Janine, $21.99 : this Sancerre really rocks and has so much to offer. I love it, so did Chris. It's got it all with a great price, all the nice dry crispness that I miss in so many Sancerre wines that are now often quite fruity and floral. This one is truly dry, truly crisp and bright and zippy-zesty and utterly refreshing!

       4) CHATEAU DAMASE 2005 ( great French vintage ) Bordeaux Superieure, $15.49 is another great Super Bowl red as it has attitude and fight and personality and it will not be silenced. Here's one to enjoy with some chicken wings and some chili and some burgers and dips and Sloppy Joes. Wow, and to think so much flavor and taste from a great vintage at such a reasonable price?!?

BUT LET'S OPEN THIS UP SOME :

     ITALIAN :

       1) Prosecco STELLINA Di NOTTE, ON SALE for $13.49 ( reg: $16.49 ) is brand spanking " new " and absolutely delightful. Chris and I loved it : it's so rounded and soft and so bright with no edge and no bite. WoW! Vunderbarrrrrrrrrr.....  how do you spell that word?!? I have no idea. But you get the idea, right?

       2) STELLINA Di NOTTE Pinot Grigio Delle Venezia , $13.49 is another perfect category for the Super Bowl. It's bright and fresh and lively and medium-to-light-bodied and very enjoyable to sip with or without food.

SWEET & BRIGHT : Super Bowl and Valentine's Day -

       1) FABBIOLI Raspberry/ Merlot Virginia medium-t0-light-bodied - bright red sunshine in grape and fruit that we have an open bottle here in the store for you to taste. It's  a 500ml bottle and it is so much like warm sunshine filtered through the Merlot and the Raspberry fruit that you will flip : and it's only $26.49 a bottle. Like a steady drip : open your mouth to receive gratefully one drop at a time - sublime ....

      2) " The Chook " Sparkling red Aussie Shiraz ( 750 ml bottle at $21.49, 375ml bottle at $16.49 ) is a nice, dry, fairly complex and tasty sparkling red that with dark chocolate and raspberries and black berries, etc is another great combo. This is great for the festive sparkle, the glint, the gleam, the charge and the surge and the thrust of all that wonderfully playful and mischievous effervescence of Shiraz bubble ....

     3) Desiree, California dessert wine with chocolate flavor infused into the Zinfandel and Syrah grapes that have made ROSENBLOOM so very famous over the last fifteen or more years. This is so full and ripe and unctuous and silky and fleshy red and flourishing and flowering in transparencies of flesh that reveal the red-hot/passionate nature of the blood that coarses madly and frantically and head-on-hell-or-high-water- through all  our red-blood, enriched veins .... like super trains, like unadulterated/unrated/finally unmasked self-primal-gutteral'base animal-human being .... you must try some of this. It's wonderful, really. A treat. It costs $22.49 a 375ml bottle.

     BEER : From Santos -

       1) All SIX FLAVORS / Styles/ Shades of ABITA for the Super Bowl. Santos has ordered extra of these for the weekend.

       2) GREAT LAKES from Cleveland, Ohio is " brand new " and exciting and there are five types for you to try on for size, fit and feel for this weekend's Super Bowl game!
AND TO HELP YOU : Santos has organized a tasting this Saturday here from 4-7 PM of all these GREAT LAKES beers. Join us, never any charge.

     LIQUOR :

       1) MACALLAN 12 Year-Old 750ml, $54.99 ( the 1.75ml bottle is only $109.99 a bottle ) is a great way to accent, to delineate, to orchestrate the settling of scores, ruffled feelings and sentiment and that animal presence in all of us that gets highly charged and agitated from so much activity on screen. Cheers...

       2) HERRADURA 100% Anejo tequila from 100% puro de Agave at $53.99 is another fine way to charge the atmosphere and get the decibels of sound, blood, activity and fury even more than it is already there anyway. This is classic, sound, very fine tequila and that also represents true value in some of the very best tequila out there.

ALSO : To Leave You : Chris and I just tasted an extraordinary dessert French wine from the Southwest of France, from Rivesaltes : a 1945 that was sublime and which you may also purchase here by the weekend for the ridiculous price of $150 a bottle. It drinks like the finest of the the fine, the romantic sublime, the wonder of the most wondrous - WOW, this was so subtle and magical that you really have to put your life on hold and have nothing to do but lavish all your attention on this golden French sweet wine that will work wonders on every molecule of your being. Trust me : rush down here and purchase a bottle. That's when World Two ended, remember?!?  I've put more technical info about the bottle and the producer on our web page. Cheers,  and come see us for the SUPER BOWL, and for VALENTINE'S DAY now before the weekend ....   TONY
