Cleveland Park Wine Cleveland Park Beer, Liquor & Wine
Featuring a wide, international selection of fine wines, micro-brews and spirits
I'M IN A CLEVELAND PARK STATE OF MIND having driven to work earlier from
Virginia Listening to Billy Joel Sing his iconic song : " New York State Of Mind
", that put me then into a Virginia State Of Mind and got me all pumped up  just
the musical introduction before Billy even got to singing. WOW! The juices were
flowing for me, sunny and bright and clear and drying up nicely from yesterday's
deluge. Thus the reference to Bob Dylan's 1970 classic : " Blood On The Tracks "
song called : " Buckets Of Rain " : we've had our rain!

I'M IN AN ART STATE OF MIND that translates into I'm also in a WINE STATE OF
MIND, a How-To-Draw-Attention-To-Washington D.C.-Cleveland Park Neighborhood
STATE OF MIND?!? I was driving, listening to Billy's Joel and his band and
feeling very positive indeed as I remembered...

RACHEL BERRY'S ( spelling? ) , too of : " New York State-Of-Mind " that she sung
on the ever-popular show GLEE not too long ago. Boy did that bring the world
down around my shoulders when I heard her sing it : I could barely move I was so
stunned by her voice and stage presence! SO : you can see that it was a struggle
of sorts as I tried valiantly to organize my thoughts and this week while
driving to work!?!

THEN RAVI HITS ME WITH David's recent passing, being informed of this last night
by Alexander, and how David had lost his fight with cancer. Devastating, such a
loss, he will be missed by us all, especially his family that survives him.

DAVID USED TO COME IN to our Saturday wine-tastings to try the wines that we had
to taste. He was usually with his dear friend Zia and David, with a twinkle in
his eyes would always ask me with lots of gusto : " So Tony what are you
flogging today?!? " I would always respond immediately : " David, we are not
flogging anything! But we are tasting ... " , and from there the conversations
and the introductions to our tasters and other customers gathered would follow.
Sad to lose you David, we/ I will miss you sorely. Who will ask me now what I am
flogging? Who uses or even remembers this expression anymore?

DAVID & ZIA are probably watching us now from up above , smiling, toasting with
a glass of the current CLOUDY BAY Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc or a glass of red
California Pinot Noir with David saying to Zia : " what do you think Tony is
flogging now?!? "  I can live with that.

SO, IT IS NOW WITH a very heavy heart that I continue today's TUESDAY STORE
email. It should be good I hope : I bring a lot to the keyboard Apple pad as I
type-peck away in my own artistic fashion.

THE STORE IS FILLED WITH MARVELOUS stacks of " new & old-favorite " wines and
this is THRILLING! I LOVE the red and white Italian wines with a red Vespa on
the red wine and a yellow Vespa on the white Italian wine : both dry and tasty
and inexpensive for everyday wine.

1) " Rapido Red " Dry Red Sangiovese from Puglia, Italy, 2011 ( $9.99 a
bottle, 13% alcohol by volume, ) : Franceen tasted Michel and me ( TONY ) on
this and we were both very pleased and impressed when we heard our price. Such
taste, presence and character for so little money, wow!

2) " Rapido White "  2012 Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie ( $10.99 a bottle,
12.5% alcohol by volume ) : tasty, balanced, with character and perfect for this
heat and humidity now. And the labels are wonderful with a yellow Vespa and two
riding it, the same couple on each!

YOU NEED to check these two wines out : they are perfect for this weather,
perfect in price, perfect for Father's Day, too!

I'M IN A FATHER'S DAY STATE-OF-MIND ... and Estebe Salgado is just about to have
a baby an minute NOW : so he might, in fact join OUR ranks as a " new " father
just-in-time to CELEBRATE Father's Day with us all! At any rate, he will be a
PROUD PAPPA no matter what! SO : as you can see : I'm now also definitely in a
Father's Day STATE-OF-MIND!

CHEERS Estebe, here's one to your new addition coming any moment now. We're all
also happy for you. You'll have to sell lots of Argentina and Spanish wines now
to pay for this all! JUST KIDDING!!!!! Nice to toast you and your family with
the exciting " new " GANETA dry rose Getariako Txakolina That's also " rare and
exciting"! I've never seen or ever tasted one before and it sells for $21.99 a
bottle. We will have it here soon for you all.

IT'S THE  " perfect " SVELTE bottle of tasty and dry rose that everyone needs to
have and taste and experience for themselves, as there is NOTHING better for
this heat and humidity! Take it the ocean, take it to the beaches, take it home
and celebrate Father's Day as well as newborn babies and pretty much just being
in a Great STATE-OF-MIND! Here by the weekend in time for Father's Day! Cheers.

Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped AND torpedoed." Perfect for Father's Day. ONE of
the oldest and finest breweries that the United States has ever tasted! Some of
the older fathers will know and remember this : it will put a smile to their
faces and an intense taste into their mouths!! Cheers.

3) " Mad Hatter " India Pale Ale from NEW HOLLAND Brewing ( On Special for
$10.99 a 6-pack of 12-ounce bottles, from Holland, Michigan,

some Porter to contemplate the MAGNITUDE of all of this and watch the movie : "
Lincoln ". too. ENJOY.

SANTOS & HIS CIDERS : now I'm in a CIDER STATE-OF-MIND! I like this : my

RAVI JUST CALLED OUT MY NAME as I finish my lunch and realize that now I also
have to get into a LIQUOR/LIQUEUR STATE-OF-MIND! Today it's all about one's
state-of-mind. I'm so happy for Estebe about to have a baby, I'm so happy for
all the fathers that will have their day this weekend. Nice ...

It's delicious!!

I JUST TRIED some that our local rep Christopher Regan of Washington Wholesalers
made for Ravi and was kind enough to make for me , knowing that I was writing
the store email and am always looking for ideas to promote. Christopher sez : "
A great way to enjoy a spirits that any father would love ". Thanks, gracias
Christopher : just in time : timely I would say! We are setting up a tasting as
soon as we can, maybe not in time for Father's Day, but perhaps for July 3rd,
2013? We think so. Cheers.

IT'S A Beautiful GOLDEN HUE this LICOR 43, and with the topping- a float of
white on top : very pretty and attractive. I think mothers will adore this and
many fathers will like it, so give some to your fathers so that you may enjoy
some, too : as long as you are old enough, of course! No bite, no burn :
creamy-dreamy-wonderful.

IN A WINE State-Of-Mind W/ Michel & Tony :

WHITES :

1) 2011 Dry White Cortese from Italy's Piemonte region from CASTELVERO (
$10.99, 11.5% alcohol by volume, Boglione, ) : flavorful, distinct, dry and
better suited to meals, and a GREAT VALUE for what this is and what you get
fathers! Cheers.

2) 2012 Dry White Bordeaux from the Entre-Deux-Mers and made by CHATEAU LES
ARROMANS ( $11.99, 12.5% alcohol by volume, from Joel Duffau our good friend and
father , Moulon 33420 Branne, France, ) : always reliable, always a fine food
wine to be enjoyed anytime, but specially now that it's so warm outside! Cheers.

3) " Shadow Chaser " White Wine 2012 Chardonnay from McLaren Vale, South
Australia ( $16.99 a bottle, 13% alcohol by volume, ) : Michel and I loved this
: so bright, so fresh, so NOT HEAVY, a wonder, a delight, defies gravity and
that's something we are thrilled about!  "  ... on the wing / of the beach blue
seas /  above a purple sky / scattered sea shells / shelter us of life below the
sun ... " I like that, LOVE this white!

ROSE :

1) Santons 2012  Coteaux D'Aix-En-Provence . Rose de Provence ( $10.99 ,
12.5% alcohol by volume ) : Both Michel and I liked the finesse and the subtle
dry character of this delicately-colored salmon rose. I also LOVE the name as I
have an incredible collection of santons at home that has been collected
lovingly over the years, first by my mother, then by my wife and me, as well as
by others bearing " gifts " of santons for us. Cheers. Look up the word "
santons " and marvel at these beautiful terra cotta- clay hand-painted figures
of people and animals. Cheers. Drink the wine while you enjoy looking at these
wonderful santons.

REDS :

1) 2010 " TROIS Amis  French Vin De Pays d'Oc Syrah ( On Special for $9.99
a bottle, 13.5% alcohol by volume from Route Des Vins ) : this is spectacular,
so flavorful, so tasty - JUMPS from the glass, pepper and spice - LOVE the
balance, the price! Great when you grill this weekend.

2) " Zeepaard " 2010 Shiraz from WEST CAPE HOWE from Denmark, Western
Australia ( $11.99, 14% alcohol by volume, ) : From Gavin Berry and David, this
is a really fine wine to enjoy, chill slightly, and enjoy when you grill and are
outside.

3)  Classic Pinot Noir 2011 from LEYDA ( $13.99, D.O. Leyda Valley, Chile,
14.5% alcohol by volume ) : smells like Pinot Noir, tastes like Pinot Noir, this
is EXCEPTIONAL Pinot Noir for the money! Really fine, enjoy and BE AMAZED!
Cheers.

4) Saumur Champigny " Clos des Boutifolles " 2010 ( $16.99, 12.5% alcohol
by volume, Loire Valley, France ) : A fuller, rounder, softer, richer Cabernet
Franc taste. Good THICK middle-range, a real treat to sip, not so sharp or
angular or as peppery and spicy and earthy as many classic Loire Valley dry red
100% Cabernet Francs. I like it to be chilled like the others for thirty
minutes. I do not like this style as much as the classic style. I like more "
highs and lows " in my wines, but I do think this Saumur-Champigny will please a
whole lot of our customers.

5) 2011 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from KLEE ( On Special for $19.99,
Carlton, Oregon, 13% alcohol by volume ) : the brightness, the toasty-roasted
berry-cherry quality of this fruit-forward medium-to-light-bodied Pinot Noir is
GREAT! We've sold so much of it : it's a divine treat , like being in a great
state-of-mind! Cheers : highly recommended, great price, too for Oregon.

6) YAKKA 2009 Shiraz from LONGVIEW Vineyards in Australia's Adelaide Hills
( $22.99, 14.5% alcohol by volume, this " single vineyard Shiraz is a flavorful
dry, earthy, tasty dry red that needs a meal to help " flesh it out ". This
would be a great treat for Father's Day, for those of you that want the wine to
chew on you as you chew on it. Cheers.

New Wine Experiences Here @ Cleveland Park Wine & Spirits Northwest Washington D.C., 20008 , September 21st, 2014 Discover Albert Bichot In Burgundy France : The Secret Red & White Burgundies Are Superb! And Just This Past May 2015 We Added The ALBERT BICHOT 2012 Morgon, $20.99, Depuis 1831, With 13% Alcohol That Chris & I Really Enjoyed!

Always something to get excited about from the ALBERT BICHOT Cremant Burgundy sparkling FRench wines, to their still reds and whites , and dry rose wines, too. WE have enjoyed selling the Macon Villages dry white as well as the Saint Veran white Burgundy as well. We have also worked a lot with the ' Secret de Famille  ' 2011 Pinot Noir, $27.99,  with 13% alcohol by volume,  and some of the Cru Beaujolais over the last two-three years. Here we just added the Morgon Cru Beaujolais 100% Gamay 2012, $20.99, with 13% alcohol by volume. It is balanced, flavorful, distinct, classic style, and a delight to drink almost anytime now in this warm weather of ours now here in the Washington D.C. metropolitan region. We are always tasting and sampling as these pictures show.

We buy according to what we need at the time.

We also buy according to what feel the best values are that ALBERT BICHOT represents at the time for our Washington D.C. customers, largely from the Cleveland Park Northwest neighborhood, but many that do visit us from other parts of Washington D.C. as well as other states.

We like to taste and decide upon what we taste. We do not like to sell off of points and scores. The wine is living inside the bottle, just like you and I, and cannot and should not be reduced down to a number and score.

I tell all our reps that if they can quote me some of what the review said, and not simply the score, then I am willing to listen, but not if they cannot do this. Sadly most cannot or will not.

We are reducing and eliminating our function here in the wine business as wine retailers and those that work in restaurants when we simply quote numbers and scores and points and no words to follow. Soon we will all be like traffic cops directing people in the direction of numbers alone. Soon we will become inconsequential and not important anymore, where machines can and will do our jobs possibly. What a sad death for us retailers and restauranteurs.

Anyway, to taste and to sample and to register our impressions : that , for me is the key : selling experience and actually tasting and sharing what we know and remember from all of these wonderful tastings like this one of the ALBERT BICHOT Burgundy wines.

Some learn and share with me and Chris Bartha here at Cleveland Park Wine And Spirits at 3423 Connecticut Avenue N.W., Washington D.C., 20008 : " a happenin' place and neighborhood! " Cheers, merci et venez nous voir. A la prochaine, bon Jeudi aujourd'hui, le 4 Juin, 2015 a vous tous!   Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn

HERE IT RAINED last night and going to rain more, and it certainly is
cooler!

AND IT IS COOLER and easier to move around and not work up an immediate
sweat! YES! LOVE that!!!!

THIS PAST FRIDAY AND SATURDAY WE HAD MICHAEL TASTING some fun 3-liter boxes
of South African wine, as well as some fun plastic 750ml bottles of South
African wines as well. Very successful, and some of you asked if we could
do a wine-tasting of 3-liter box wines and we will try and do that as it
would be quite educational and fun.

ON THIS PAST SATURDAY we had ESTEBE tasting some really special Spanish
reds, whites, sparkling Trapat Cava rose and also some ALEXANDRO Sherries,
the Manzanilla and the Moscatel. All the wines showed beautifully. They are
all still here, come get some for this cooler weather today.

lovely deep rose color, nothing wimpy or light from the color, and yet the

Featuring a wide, international selection of fine wines, micro-brews and spirits

IT'S Cleared up according to chuck of RobinS cellars imports. Says it makes his
day " so much easier driving around " from account to account. absolutely!

CHUCK WAS HERE this past Saturday doing our Saturday afternoon wine-tasting and
that went really well : the 4 wines he tasted showed beautifully and we almost
sold-out during the tasting, especially of The FURST 2010 Riesling from Alsace's
Kientzheim-Kayserberg, $17.99 a bottle : dry and complex and a great food wine.
Thanks for tasting the wines here Chuck.

THE DRY ARNEIS Piemontese Italian white from the Langhe region and made by
DEMARIE, $16.99, 12.5% alcohol by volume, was also a big-hit for meals, and we
talked quite a bit about how the mineral and the citrus overtones would be
especially nice with some food from DINO or SORRISO or TWO AMYS here in our
neighborhood : and of course with VACE and their pizza and all their other fine
Italian food, too that is so easy to take home and make a glorious meal with, to
be complemented by the dry Arneis flavors here.

ON THAT NOTE the Chianti dry traditional blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and
Malvasia from POGGIO VIGNOSO, $13.99, DOCG , 13.5% alcohol by volume would also
work really well alongside the tasty dry Arneis white. This POGGIO VIGNOSO is
not as heavy, more fruit-forward, brighter, lighter and fresher with accents of
herbs and spices and a typical " dusty-dryness " , medium-to-light-bodied, chill
it some : and be OFF on a grand adventure with this balanced and classic Tuscan
Chianti from a really old family.

BUT HEY, There Are Writers that will immediately notice the name : LORCA , this
dry Spanish red from Bullas, Spain, made from the Monastrell ( also called the
Mourvedre grape in France where it is a big part of many of the tasty Rhones as
well as the dry reds of the Southwest of France ) ; this 2009, $12.99, 13.5%
alcohol by volume was fuller, rounder, thicker, more bright red toasty-berry
flavors : and also a big-hit Saturday when Chuck poured it for you all.

WE ALSO SPOKE OF and sold The FURST Pinot Blanc 2010 Vin D'Alsace from
Kientzheim-Kayserberg, $15.99, 12% alcohol by volume that has been a
BIG-FAVORITE here now for awhile and that is delicious and so versatile with so
many foods, so many occasions. It's a winner, too and will be really nice in the
evenings when the sun and the heat are both turned-out/down ...

ALL THE ABOVE WINES are here in stock ( only 2 bottles of The FURST Riesling
2010 here for the moment ) : SO - come by and get a bottle as the sun has made
itself visible once again and managed to get through the clouds , according to
Chuck. What would I do without Chuck, stuck here as I am in my office typing
away and not able to see things clearly outside.

I DID SHARE WITH MY WIFE the observation that with all this rain and moisture
and gray days that the farmers around here should be really happy as their crops
should all, hopefully be doing really well?!? That's a trade-off, but a good one
as we all love our fresh corn, apples, oranges, peaches, strawberries, etcetera
at this time of the year. What have any of you heard about this? Any of you have
family in the agriculture business with farms?

OUR DEAR CUSTOMER J.C. PASSED AWAY in the last two weeks tells me Mark Congdon,
our wine rep for J.W. SIEG that knows him well. He was a beloved man that loved
his wines dearly and worked with Vintage 59 helping them, also worked with the
owner of the RdV Vineyards wines in Delaplane, Virginia. He will be sorely
missed, his three children and wife survive him : and I LOVED selling to him as
well as " talking wine " to him. Cheers to you old buddy! I miss you already and
am so sorry for both myself and all the others that knew and loved you. Mark
tells me that tons of people showed up to the funeral service recently, many
more than were expected. You did touch our lives, you really did : J.C. you will
be missed!

SPEAKING OF WHICH , VINCE congratulated me on my last email where I spoke of the
death of Ray Manzarek of the 60's rock group The DOORS. He did say, immediately
that I forgot to mention Richie Haven's recent passing, too. He's right : wow,
Richie Havens of Woodstock fame and his brilliantly improvised " Freedom " song
that he created, so-to-speak, on the site/spot of one of the big stages at
Woodstock, in New York, in a big field, surrounded by thousands of of hippies
that were clamoring for music. The entertainers were not yet there and so they
asked Richie to keep performing and so , being the consommate professional that
he is : he improvised, or , at least, taht is what I heard. I LOVE that song : "
Freedom " - it conjures up for me so many wonderful things that I always explode
with excitement : so uplifting, the song, his voice, his guitar , and the words
and what they mean individually to each and everyone of us. Cheers Richie,! You,
too will be sorely - ARE ALREADY sorely missed!

BUT THERE'S MORE : Let's not forget ALL OUR ALE, BEER and CIDER from Santos -
It's ALL so very exciting these days : the world is galloping along and we just
have to throw ourselves up on the horse and saddle or into an open freight train
car and hope and pray and work for the best!

FROM SANTOS we have :

1) ANGRY ORCHARD Hard Cider " Traditional Dry " , Naturally Gluten-Free (
On Special for $9.99 a 6-pack of 12 Oz. bottles, 5.5% alcohol by volume,

English draft ciders. This cider is bittersweet and slightly spicy with a bright
apple aroma. The dryness makes you pucker and look forward to another sip ". Try
some.

NEWS FLASH : This past week three young ladies were buying the ANGRY CIDER to
blend with the FIREBALL Cinnamon Whsky Red Hot - like the old fireball candy we
would enjoy-still enjoy ( $18.99 a 750ml, also comes in a smaller pint size, 33%
alcohol by volume, whisky with natural cinnamon flavor, product of Canada,
www.fireballwhisky.com ) , and making a fun drink for this hot weather. Our
customer Olivia overheard all of this and so I was selling her the same thing to
take home! Then this weekend it came up all over again with a local bartender
here, and then with customers : EVERYONE doing the same thing : a " new " taste
sensation - hot like fireballs, red hot to be exact with cinnamon taste and
apple cider to refresh and liven up and spaces left to be filled! WOW, what FUN.

of 12-ounce bottles, 5% alcohol by volume, NY  NY and bottled in Melbourne,
Florida , gluten-free ) : " new " and exciting and arriving tomorrow sez Santos.
With all the interest in the elderflower drinks this should add quite a bit to
the equation of what can be drunk and blended and enjoyed?! The sky's the limit
these days it seems ; making things all the more fun and exciting and enjoyable.
Cheers.

heartier and more fiery and bolder than the Rye. I personally liked the Bourbon

ON MORE THING : Our son got my wife and me to watch with him a documentary of
the fashion photographer of the New York Times , Bill Cunningham. We LOVED it !
Wonderful, what a man, what a life, riding around on his 29th bike ( 28 were
already stolen! ) and photographing fashion everywhere he sees it, not just on
the famous and wealthy - on anyone with any fashion statement. In the
documentary made by Richard Press he said something while in Paris to the others
thinking he must be crazy because he was not taking pictures of Catherine
Deneuve. Bill said she was not wearing anything interesting to take a picture
of! He was right, as she was getting into her car she looked good but all you
could see was a coat. Anyway, what would Bill enjoy besides a coffee? I don't
know? I would love to get a chance to ask him sometime, when he was not working,
becasue he refuses to accept anything from anyone while working, even water - as
a matter of principle. You should all watch this : si inspiring : drink one of
the ales, beers, ciders, liqueurs, liquors or wines recommended here while you
do. Google i : Bill Cunningham New York ( 2010 ), a film by Richard Press, The
New York Times, Zeitgeist Films, born in 1929, " fashion photographer known for
his candid street photography " - an inspiring man that can't stop smiling and
lights the room up each and every time that he does. Bravo Bill.

I KNOW I HAVE FORGOTTEN MANY THINGS, BUT I know that I have also covered many
things. Hope I have given you some inspiration, some reason to stop by, some
wine fro drink and some food for thought!

DON'T FORGET that Father's Day is coming soon. Read last week's store email once
again and see between it and this one what you might want to get here and give
to your Father on Sunday, June 16th, 2013!

Nero D'Avola and 30% Frappato, 2009, 13.5% alcohol by volume at $25.99 - called
the " Classico ", the Cerasuolo di Vittoria that blew Michel and me away with
it's power, finesse, classic old-world peppery and spicy, warm and earthy style.

JOIN US in celebrating this great weather-streak of 3-days now with sun and
a breeze, baby blue skies, feeling good and relaxed, some still suffering
from allergies and other symptoms of pollen and everything flowering at
once. I am my worst enemy as i LOVE being outside and gardening and I pay
the price, even from trimming a wild and unruly holly bush out in our front
yard yesterday with my wife. Maybe I got pricked too many times, maybe I
said : " Ouch! ", and maybe I cursed once to many times and the spirit of
the holly is getting me back for that?!?

WHATEVER, I woke up with watering eyes and blowing my nose. Our customer
Michael just passed me here in front of the store and smiled when I told
him my woes. he said that the same thing had happened to him yesterday and
that today he felt better.

SO : I guess I am not going to die. The bank manager concurred and smiled,
too , saying that he could not even see any of my pain and suffering. Good
I say! Life goes one thankfully.

US/ WE / I - all celebrate, smile, smirk, feel good, feel alive. Spread
some joy, say something nice to someone, a loved one, someone you are just
meeting.

COME BY here and tell us your stories of how you did this or just met
someone, or made a family member feel loved and let us pour you a taste of
a wine or something special we may may have here in reserve for just these
special and important occasions.

MAYBE WE CAN help you figure out what is especially good now in this
weather. One of our customers just put three bottles of BALTIKA beer on the
counter to pay and I said to him, smiling : " Where are the three bottles
of wine there to balance out the three bottles of beer? " He replied
quickly that it was beer weather, not wine weather. There is some truth to
what he says, just some, I still love my wine.

ENJOYED SOME sparkling Cremant de Bourgogne this weekend at home, a gift
from Jim and Elizabeth Reeves and Clotilde Davenne of a bottle of CLOTILDE
DAVENNE NV brut : it was dry and full and steely and yet rich and tasty
and, most of all, really balanced, we all really liked it, really a treat
with herb abd garlic goat's cheese and smoked salmon. There was no
complaining, just smiles and sighs of complete satisfaction last night.

ISABEL INQUIRED about the CASAL GARCIA Vinho Verde and we will have some
here the first week of June for $6.99 a bottle. Obregado Isabel, ola, ola ,
ola ole Isabel!

MADE SOME FRESH PESTO last night, too before grilling burgers on our grill.

BUT HEY,  down to business now ... as the rolling thunder recedes and the
President's Band sounds of singing and playing at Wolf Trap the music of
South Pacific dim a bit, the fireworks there in the dark, one hundred feet
away, while listening to the Steve Miller Band, ZZ Top, the Beach Boys,
Kelly Clarkson : wow, it was enthralling, magical, intimate with five
hundred others all around us ...

WINE By Chris & Tony :

THREE FINE, Fine VALUES:

1) Soave dry, clean, bright, crisp and Italian white wine from
TAVERNELLO, No. 1 in Italy, On Special for $5.99 a bottle. Took this to
Wolf Trap on Sunday night and tasted it to be sure that it was still as
good as I remembered it when I tasted it with Chris a month ago? YES, it
was still as good : and WHAT A VALUE! This is a great deal for this hot
weather, come get some, enjoy outside, with or without food, it is pleasing
and easy-drinking and we are thrilled to have it here for you all. With
11.5% alcohol by volume, a real warm-weather treat.

2) Pinotgae 2013 from South Africa's Swartland, made by RIEBEEK
CELLARS, $7.99 a bottle, 14% alcohol by volume, I really enjoyed this at
Wolf Trap on Sunday with my family. I took it there chilled and with the
guacamole, the salsa dip and the fried chicken tenders it was delicious.
But hey, it was really delicious all by itself! SO : with or without a
meal, utterly delightful. A softer, mellower, brighter, and fruitier red,
with no edge, no burn, just melts on the tongue.

3) The 2013 Dry Red French Cotes Du Rhone from CHARLES THOMAS, $8.99,
13.5% alcohol by volume, ... I enjoyed this last night with my thick and
juicy and delicious hamburgers that I grilled last night on our grill out
back. It was wonderful, really lovely, and so easy to drink and enjoy all
by itself. It was juicy just like the hamburgers I grilled, a treat that I
shared with our neighbors that brought us over some of Matt's own smoked
pork done the day before that melted on the tongue. Some smoked
neighborhood pork for some fresh pesto that I had just made an hour earlier
and some dry red juicy CHARLES THOMAS Cotes Du Rhone 2013 to wash it all
down. Lovely!

THREE GREAT EVERYDAY TREATS here 4 U!

MORE Fine Wines :

1) 2014 Bourgogne Aligote ( a grape variety in burgundy, France ) from
NAUDIN FERRAND is like having three or four layers of grape skin in your
mouth in a liquid form of course! It has great mouth-feel, great grip and
taste and appeal : Jim Reeves poured it here this weekend, on Friday night,
and we sold a lot and many of you really liked it! Tasty, bright, very
nice. I like it.

2) Bourgogne Blanc 2013 dry white 100% Chardonnay , from CLOTILDE
DAVENNE, $15.99, 12.5% alcohol by volume, made just outside the limits of
Chablis and tasting the same, clean and crisp and bright and wonderful,
with or without a meal. I really like this , too : it is lighter than the
Bourgogne Aligote. It sell so well because it is always ' spot-on ' in

JOIN US TONIGHT  After Oprah's 2nd-To-Last 4PM 25th Season Finale  Show (
history-in-the-making, really stupendous ! ) W/ Wine-maker BEN GLAETZER as he
tastes his way through a selection of his wines from the HEARTLAND and the
WALLACE South Australia and Barossa Valley. This will be really a great wine
experience for you ( many of the wines will be great to enjoy thinking, too of
Oprah and her last Finale Show tomorrow - buy and serve some tonight and then )
all to take advantage of as Ben works with some interesting grape varieties
like the Dolcetto, the Lagrein, Viognier, Verdelho, Pinot Gris and Semillon
that are not the typical grapes when you think of Australia and their wines. I
like this : it's both creative-inventive and draws attention to him and his
wines and gives everyone a clear change of taste and pace in drinking Aussie
wines. The labels are clearly marked on the back and that's also a plus as it
makes it that much easier to know what you are enjoying. More labels should be
clearly marked as to give consumers the knowledge of what they are drinking at
any given point in time.

WE HAVE BEEN SELLING REALLY WELL the wines of Ben Glaetzer ( HEARTLAND and
WALLACE ) thanks to Marcie Weinstein and our Epicurean reps David and now Gina.
All three have been instrumental in getting us these HEARTLAND dry red and
white blends called " Stickleback "  :  1)  Stickleback White, South Australia
2008 ( $12.49 ) is a blend of Verdelho 35%, Semillon 24%, Viognier 23% and
Pinot Gris 18% Fresh, crisp and zesty and fun, too.   2)  Stickleback Red 2008
is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 47%, Shiraz 44%, Lagrein 5% and Dolcetto 4%. I
look forward to asking Ben why there is so little of the grapes of Dolcetto and
Lagrein in the blends? Why not more? Why not make a wine with just those two
grapes? We also sell well the WALLACE Barossa Valley Shiraz/Grenache 2008 (
$29.49). It's really a very solid and bold dry red that's best when paired with
a meal. I'd enjoy a bottle of it at the Outback Steakhouse when I go with my
family. If it was on the list or the Stickleback red blend I might think of
giving up my 220ounce Big-Bloke Fosters that I enjoy there because I can never
find a bottle on the list that I want to drink except for perhaps the CHANDON
CA. sparkling wine. Oh well, Gina and David : get them to buy these wines of
yours please!

WE ALL WILL BE MEETING Ben Glaetzer here for the first time. As far as I know
it is his first visit to Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits? Join us tonight,
Tuesday, May 24th, 2011 from 5-8PM. Never any charge. ALSO : Think that
Father's Day is coming soon and that you might want to get some bottles signed
as gifts? Be proactive and take care of this as much as you can in advance.

MANY THINGS HAPPENING As Usual HERE In Cleveland Park Our Fabulous
Neighborhood. We just received more of the LA VALLE California VALUE wines :
1) a Cabernet Franc dry red for $4.99 and  2) a White Blend also for $4.99.
That's such a deal and we have already sold-out of the first drop that we
received at the beginning of the month and getting more before the end of June.
This is good : this means that you all are embracing this wine and enjoying it
a lot. One of our regular male customers mentioned this to me this past weekend
saying what would we/ he do without this excellent value?

WINE VALUES UNDER $10 A BOTTLE :

1) OWL HOUSE WHITE, $8.99 , California white blend from the LEDGEWOOD
CREEK Winery in Suison Valley. The owner has been here now twice and I have to
say that this white bowled me over just a couple of weeks ago when he stopped
by with Sam our rep for LVDH wines. It's so inexpensive and fun and lively and
flavorful and bright and a real treat at so little money. My wife and I enjoyed
some at home this weekend. I wanted to see how it went with food as well as all
by itself before a meal? It passed on both counts with flying colors.
2) Sweet Meliss ( Alman Brothers' song? ) Sweet Red Wine by MAD WINES,
Pleasantville, New York 10570 ( $4,49 for a 1.87ml plastic bottle - carton of 4
bottles in each pack, 10% alc. by volume, is a rose with overtones of
strawberries and raspberries and perfect to drink and enjoy just about anytime.
Cut package, fun gift, easy to transport and enjoy just about anywhere!
3) CHATEAU CARMES CANTILLAC 2009 Bordeaux dry red blend ( $9.99, 70%
Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc , 13% alc. by volume ) is
part of our BIG-THEME Bordeaux-Wine-Tasting tomorrow, May 25th, 2011 from
5:30-8:30PM. Join us, no charge. Come discover 25 Bordeaux wines with us. The
2009 vintage ( as well as the 2010 ) are both exceptional years and it's true
for all the wines no matter how expensive or inexpensive. That's a good thing
because three of the wines from LVHD are under $10 a bottle.
4) Shiraz, South Australia 2008 OXFORD LANDING dry red ( $8.99 ) is nice
to have once again here in Cleveland Park. Drink some Aussie wines ( especially
some of those that cost between $10-$20 a bottle as that part of the Aussie
wine business has been hurt really badly these last two-three years and they
deserve our attention as so many of them ( like the HEARTLAND wines ) are
really very fine wines. GO AUSTRALIA! Thanks Robert Whale for starting things
for us all way back in 1985 or 1986 when for the whole year the number of cases
that came to the U.S. was five thousand or so!
5) 44 LOTE Ciarenta Cuatro Dominio Argentina Malbec, Mendoza, 2010 (
$9.99, 13% alc. by volume ) is new as of last week. I think Greg sampled this
on a Monday my day-off and so I will ask his opinion of the wine. In the
meantime it has been selling really well!
6) Viognier 2010 from the DOMAINE DE GOURNIER ( $9.99 dry white from
France ) , made by owner Maurice that comes to visit us pretty much each time
he comes to Washington D.C. and is now a dear friend here. This dry white of
Maurice's is excellent and we sell it whenever we can. It is unfortunately
often out-of-stock at the wholesaler's and so we try and get at least one wine
from Maurice here whenever we can. I took this one home this weekend and my
wife, daughter and I enjoyed a glass of it together just this past Sunday while
sitting outside on our deck with everything looking so green and verdant.

WINE VALUES At $10-$15 :

1) Viognier 2009 from the DOMAINE De MONTMARIN, Cotes De Thongue,
Southwestern, France ( $10.99, 13.5% alc. by volume ) has traditionally been
our best-selling Viognier and we are thrilled to have it back again as it, too
has been out of stock for awhile at the wholesaler level. Not any more, their
container from France is here and it is back in Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits
once again. Love it, really do.
2) Cava Spanish sparkling wine called KILA ( $10.99, 11.5% alc. by volume
) is back for the second time. It's so bright and pretty and refreshing and
perfect to combat beautifully this high humidity that is ours at least for
today. It will cut right through it and bring back the ease and the relaxation
to your features.

HEY SANTOS : What Beer's You Got For Us? :
1) Ancient Grains 100% Biodynamic ALE from Austria's MEINKLANG ( $18.99
6-pack 12 ounce bottles, 4.7% Alc. by Volume ) is here for the first time I
believe. We have sold already over the recent years the MEINKLANG wines ( Pinot
Noir is on our shelves now, " Zwerest " 2009 Blauburgunder - means Pinot Noir -
13% alc. by volume Demeter, Burgenland, Austria$16.99 - drinking beautifully
now, best with a meal ). Come try this new biodynamic beer from MEINKLAND.
2) Black Belgian-style stout beer from ALLAGASH ( $10.49, 1 pint, 9.4fl.oz
, 7.5% alc. by volume, Portland, ME 1-800-330-5385 www.allagash.com ) is " new
and exciting " here and I still have to try it. Come check it out.
3) Daura Premium Quality Lager beer of ESTRELLA Damm ( On Special for
$7.99 a 4-pack of 12 ounce bottles, www.tastingbeers.com , Barcelona, Spain )
is a barley malt lager beer with less than 6ppm gluten as a result of the
brewing process which minimizes the gluten normally present in other beers.

RAVI - RAVI - RAVI : What Liquors Have You? :
1) ROOT Art In The Age ( $34.99, 750ml bottle, USDA Organic, certified
organic neutral spirits with North American herbs and pure cane sugar, 40% alc.
by volume, ) is the " unity of art, craft, design & contemplation". Made from
Birch Bark, Smoked Black Tea, Cinnamon, Wintergreen, Spearmint, Clove, Anise,
Orange, Lemon, Nutmeg, Allspice, Cardomom and pure cane sugar. Great package,
too. What fun!

SO : It's an exciting time here and in the world now. Today is the
second-to-last day of Oprah Winfrey's show ( 25 years and going strong! Yes I
know about this show because my daughter, son and wife all love it. The latest
Lady Ga Ga album just came out, too yesterday with the song : " Baby I Was Born
This Way ", we feel so bad for all those in the United States affected by the
many tornadoes that have been sweeping through with devastation, the floods
with the Mississippi River overflowing in Memphis, etcetera, so many
developments and sudden things happening and unraveling unexpectedly. It's so
much to digest and to absorb and I think that it has been so stressful for all
of us. What to do/ where to turn/ when will the next bombshell fall on any of
us?!? So many questions. I did enjoy watching the third-to-last Oprah Winfrey
show yesterday with my family at 4 PM and watched Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise,
Beyonce Madonna, the Evencko 10-year-old girl'voice of an angel girl, John Legend and many more perform for Oprah. I was so inspired that
while it was being broadcast I sat at my computer and typed a poems based
around what was happening at the moment. You can read it at :
chatpoetry.blogspot.com.

YOU CAN STAY CAUGHT UP WITH US at : www.clevelandparkwine.com, on Facebook at :
Cleveland Park Wine & Spirits, on Twitter at : cpwinespirits and at :
chatwine.blogspot.com. We will infact be sending more Twitter blasts out now
with the help of Megan that has volunteered her valuable services to assist us
in this. They should start momentarily and if you want to receive them you have
our address now. We have been twittering now for four months or so I believe.
Check it out and let us know what you think.

I KNOW I HAVE FORGOTTEN MANY THINGS and I am sorry for that, especially if I
told you that I would be writing about something and did not remember or do it.
Sorry. I try and have a representation of our week's activities and I hope that
you like the diversity and the scope of what we cover. Let us/ me know. I will
be happy to entertain any of your thoughts as this is always a collaborative
effort. We are here only because of you and appreciate greatly all of your
support and trust and faith in what we do. We strive to always do it better.

HOW MANY OF YOU are doing and Oprah Winfrey party tomorrow? Taking off of work
and gathering around you tv's at 4PM? Come on by and buy some wines, beers,
liquor - whatever for that. We have everything here to help you enjoy tomorrow
and watch the last hour of Oprah's 25th extraordinary spree-years on national
television. What an amazing feat, and such an inspiration to so many from all
those people here and abroad that she has touched with shows on so many things
... and the positive spin she has put on being a woman and being able to do
whatever they dream/ want. I'm blown away even though I did not watch the show
religiously like the rest of my family. I still gleaned many valuable thoughts
and insights from watching when I did. Thank you Oprah, merci, gracia, prego,
and more. Will you be drinking champagne of tequila tomorrow Oprah? We have
some Crystal and Dom Perignon to celebrate with as well as some of the
excellent Claude Thibaut 2006 Virginia Monticello sparkling wine ( $41.99 ) as
well as some great dry rose champagnes from BOISEL , Epernay, France, NV Brut (
$60.99 ), CHARLES ORBAN , Troissy, Champagne NV Brut, $46.99 , and the MICHEL
ARNOULD & FILS NV Brut( Verzenay, $49.99 ) as well as many other rose
sparkling that are less expensive ... and a whole selection of dry
still/non-sparkling roses, too from around the world!  For tequila we have a
whole selection as well as the CAMPO AZUL Anejo $28.99 and the DON JULIO Anejo
On Special @ $51.99. You do know that Oprah loves both tequila and champagne,
right? CELEBRATE, celebrate and celebrate some more. This is history in the
making and really special history, too that resounds of truth and many great
things as well. Cheers, and come tonight after the Oprah show to celebrate some
more with Ben Glaetzer from 5-8PM. He's got some really good Aussie Pinot
Grigio that would also be great to enjoy tomorrow for the last Oprah show.
