Marci Weinstein Brings A Selection Of Current JOSEPH MELLOT Loire Valley French Wines : Dry Red, Rose And White Wines Made From The Cabernet Franc Grape, The Pinot Noir And The Sauvignon Blanc Grape : Something For Everyone And In Every Price, Too! Wow, Impressive Wines, Loved Tasting Them Here Earlier @ Cleveland Park Wine And Spirits!
Marci brought these for me to taste this Wednesday morning here, Joseph Mellot wines from France's Loire Valley, and they were all brillinat, bright, fresh, lively, balanced and pleasing wines from the Tourain wines to the Sanceree and the Pouilly-Fume wines, the rose being made from Pinot Noir, the Bourgeuil red being made from 100% Cabernet Franc and the Sancerre and the Pouilly-Fume being made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
The Pouilly-Fume was soft, bright , round and floral and fleshy and so pleasing to sip, reminded me more of a Sancerre. The 500 Sancerre 2012 commemorating the Mellot start 500 years ago with a special design made I believe by a college or university there was so full, so supple, so lovely and mellow and pleasing and gravity-defying, a wine of class and breed that will sell for around $60 a bottle I believe that is delicious now and ready to enjoy now, to sip, to have with a more elegant meal, to smile, to feel like a million euros now or more even, say at least 500 euros ... nice.
We will have the red Bourgeuil 100% Cabernet Franc here either tomorrow or Friday for you all to enjoy : so bright, that wonderful Cabernet Franc nose, the taste being medium-to-lighter-bodied, with toasty and roasted flavors, some great dry fruit, some real accents, lovely ... polished ... a real treat. Cheers, stay-tuned for more. TONY 2/4/2015 //// merci Marci ....

Ignasi Lopez 2/3/2015
This was a great second visit to meet and taste the current vintages of these fine LUZ wines from Spain that we have already sold at Cleveland Park Wine and Spirits and will include once again in March, along with the wine-tasting we will do of them with Franceen on Saturday, March 14th, 2015 from 2-6PM that is free, Everyone is always welcome.
I was very impressed indeed with the three LUZ wines that we will sell for $9.99 a bottle : a dry red, rose and dry white, the red and rose being made from old-vines Garnacha, and the white a blend of Viura mostly with a bit of Muscat ( 10% ), and I forget the other white grapes, oops... I liked it's brightness, as I liked the brightness, fresh-forward quality and liveliness of all three.
I also liked the Albarino which had more mouth-feel, more body and which would be excellent now with this cold and damp all around us.
The Monastrell at 15.5% alcohol bothered me personally for that but I could see how many would like it best. It. too was really well-made as were all these wines.
We will taste five of the six I believe in March, so you may all decide for yourselves. Cheers, and do mark your calendars now. TONY 2/4/ 2015
It was great to have owner Ignasi Lopez of his Spanish wine LUZ ( Light ) return to Cleveland Park Wine and Spirits once again. He came before with Patrick Harney I believe of Bacchus Imports. Now Ignasi is working with Vias Imports and so Franceen our local rep brought him by to taste his six or seven wines, two whites, one dry rose , and the rest reds. All excellent, all balanced, distinct and total complemts to the grapes and the soil and weather in which they grew from an...

IT'S A BUSY WEEK, but then, which are not?!? How many of you have your " To Do "
lists ready and at hand, whether written on a piece of paper as I do or on a
computer or hand-held device? I took a package to mail to the post office
yesterday for Valentine's Day and ran into our neighbor that was there, too; and
claimed that she was probably one of the very last people that still used the
mail to send bill payments?!? How many of you still do that? How many of you
still remember the last time that you did that? Time is moving so quickly these
days that it's all one big WHIRL and it's hard to focus and keep up. I always
find that if I do not check my lists three or four times that I miss something.
That one things falls through the cracks and may or may not get done?

Park neighborhood that will be run this coming Monday or the next? Keep
checking. It will be good. I will not reveal now the restaurants being covered.

restaurants in general. I informed Jason that Lavandou had been here for twenty
years now. If you want to learn more stop by and ask me.
FUNNY, I returned to continue writing the store email and a customer walked in
asking for Bill Sander's California 3-Spanish-type olive olive oil? He's a

Reconnecting Monday Afternoon, Smiling Just Now When I Was Cleaning And Found This Brochure From Joachim Hollerith ( Once Winemaker At RAPIDAN Vineyards In Virginia ) When I Found This Brochure Of German Rheinfalz Wines Called " Anna Katharina " : " ... Is A Tribute To All The Hollerith Women Past And Present. "

I was sorry to hear of the recent passing of Joachim Hollerith that I knew and had worked with promoting these German wines of his here in the Washington D.C. metropolitan region. We spent the better part of the day visiting local retailers and tasting and promoting them. It was both a pleasure and an honor for me to work so closely with Yoachim this day so many moons ago.
We spoke of all that had happened up-t-date in Virginia and we, of course, spoke of what he had done, and what was currently happening with the RAPIDAN Vineyard label of wines, the Rieslings I remmenbered so fondly from when he made them and we used to sell them at Burka's Fine Wines when I was the wine-buyer back them in the late eighties. Cheers Yoachim,
I will post more as I find it, we had several sheets we were taking around and they are all here somewhere in a pile of mine and I just have to find them as I clean and sort, organize and throw out so many of the multiple copies of things that I have collected over these many glorious wine moons and suns of mine here in the Washington D.C. northern Virginia wine regions... that also have included Maryland with their fine wines like those of the Boordy Vineyards and Rob DeFord that I also know and enjoyed working with back then promoting the Hyde, Maryland wines, too : since the early eighties. How time flies! TONY 2/2/2015
PS. : Thanks Dave for writing the piece in the Washington Poste Food Section with the wine article on Joachim and the two others that sadly have also passed away recently. Cheers, Anthony Quinn

Celebrating Brazil this Sunday morning and the fine wines of BOSCATO that are fruit-driven and fruit-forward, luscious and bright and fleshy and Rubenesque in so many wonderful ways : celebrating life and warmth and liquid and supple and pliant and pleasing and such a pealing flesh that tongue and lips and mouth just want to circle, cup, hold, pause over, close eyes and squeeze every drop of pleasure from that these liquid BOSCATO wines hold with each sip! What an experience,...
