WHAT FOLLOWS BELOW is an old store email I wrote and sent on January 11th , 2011! Read and enjoy it if you have time, cheers , TONY  1/9/2018

THE SNOW WILL START SOON and you may not all be prepared  so we are more than willing to come and see you at your home or apartment. Just call us at : 202-363-4265 and we will send Santos or Nelson your way as quickly as we can get your order together. It's always best to be prepared and to have what you need close at hand just in case the snow decides to continue falling and not stop anytime soon. You just never know with these things and so from vast experience I advise you all to be proactive and either call us as soon as you get this store email or to come and see us as soon as you can.

ALL IS WELL HERE on this Tuesday just noon as I start to collect my thoughts and try and arrange them in some groups and semblances of order as Taylor Swift sings : " And you've got a smile ... you've got to find what you're looking for , it's been standing here ever since ... " or something like that. Perhaps a glass of wine would be nice to better chart here with Taylor the highs and lows and all that's in-between concerning human relationships. Maybe just a good beer, a nice glass of wine, a " new " mixed drink and some more non-confrontational conversation would suffice for the moment?

I THINK SO. I'm not ready for a heart-to-heart right now but I am excited to be meeting soon the  female wine-maker from the Jezabel Oregon wines of both dry Pinot Noir and the dry white blend that will be stopping by soon. She had an appointment at the Ripple restaurant next door that we like so much but something must have happened ; could it have been the snow?!? I think I will be able to taste both of these and perhaps some of her other wines that I do not know as well yet. There's always so much to know about and never enough time to know it all. That's what keeps life and food and wine and people and the arts so interesting for me : NEVER A DULL MOMENT! If you are around come and check-in with us and ask about these wines of JEZEBEL. I will have more to relate really soon.

I'M ON A RUSH NOW TO GET THIS EMAIL OUT before the snow starts to envelope us in it's snowiness and cold and so many billions of melting and falling and blowing flakes : sheets and screens and blankets and tarps and like so many beads of all unique snow flakes descending on us here in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area really soon. Feel all over like a kid : want to build snowmen and snow castles and forts and igloos and throw snowballs and make snow angles?!? School is letting out early I hear because of this soon today.

WE HAVE LOTS OF SPECIALS TO PASS THE TIME if indeed you do get snowed-in. These deals will also help to boost your moods and relax your worries and massage your temples and foreheads from all the worry and the fear and the uncertainty of work and life today as we live it and feel that we know it less and less and less. But let me not get heavy here. I simply want to set the stage so-to-speak: to announce the players and the parts and the whole range of sensations, etcetera that we have to offer and to add to your plays and novels, stories, movies, your-own-reality moments.

BEER From Santos : Santos always has something interesting that he is constantly adding here to our beer selection.

       1) Trappist Ale " Triple " from WESTMALLE ( $6.49 for the 11.2 fl. oz bottle, 9.5% alc. by volume, merchantduvin.com ) is something we have always sold well here but I think that this size is new for us here.
       2) Trappist Ale " Dubbel " from WESTMALLE ( $6.49 for the 11.2 fl. oz bottle ) is also new in this size and it comes also from the Trappist Monastery of Westmalle in Malle, 2390  Belgium. Convenient size to try them out for size, fit and feel and to see if you want to buy the larger bottles or simply when you travel and these are lighter to carry with you.
      3) Schlafly Brand  Beer " Kolsch " from Saint Louis, Missouri ww.schlafly.com  The SAINT LEWIS BREWERY ( $9.99 a 6-pack of 12-ounce bottles, ) " is a golden-colored, medium-bodied, crisp and refreshing ale. This style which is originated in Cologne, is well-mannered, and a perfect companion for any occasion ".
      4) Independent Employee-Owned FULL SAIL ( 4 types in all - all " new " here in Cleveland Park Wines, Beers and Spirits ) , this IPA   "  12 fluid ounces of ridiculously tasty India Pale Ale concocted by our massive brewforce of 47 specialists in the liquid refreshment arts since 1987  " ( On Special for $9.49 a 6-pack , 12 fl. oz bottles, 6%alc. by volume , www.fullsailbrewing.com ) are all four now available for sale here @ Cleveland Park Wines and in time for the snow.

( THERE WERE JUST A FEW LARGE FLAKES of snow as I went down to CVS to buy a camera because I stupidly left my new Panasonic camera at home as I rushed to get here to work this morning : I was so enthusiastic to start this week here and to get the ball rolling here! It was nice to feel the wined and the snowflakes as they broke over and onto me just a few minutes ago - just a dusting, just a " tease " of what is to come really soon now ...  )...

     5) Cerise- Cherries by FOUNDERS Brewing ( On Special for $10.99 a 4-pack of 12 oz. bottles, 6.5% alc. by volume ) : " You'll have a soft spot for this one : using only fresh Michigan tart cherries this beautifully tantalizes with intense flavors combined with a no hesitation malt bill. " Made in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

NEWS UPDATE ( 1:50PM ) : Sara Shaw the wine-maker of DAEDALUS CELLARS was just here with Tony of Nice Legs and I had a chance to try a series of nine of the ten bottles of their list ( I did not try the Pinot Gris this time because as Sara said : " Everyone knows the Pinot Gris' of Oregon " and she said she had something much more exciting which was the 2009 Gruner Veltliner ( $27.49 ) that was so fresh and lively and smooth : perhaps for me too smooth for the snow that is coming so soon. I liked it and we discussed the Roter Veltliner, too that means " red " and is so much scarcer. We also discussed the Gruner which means " green " and then I told Tony and Sara that I had just recently tried some dry red French hybrid Chambourcin that I liked quite a bit and will buy for February, 2011. It was a lively and flavorful and not very heavy-tasting red that I think will pique the interest of many of our customers when they try it.
I tried with Tony and Sara the :   1) Riesling 2007 ( loved it, loved it's " grip " and " mouth-feel " and will consider buying it, too along with the 2009 Gruner Veltliner ( both around $27.49 ).   2)  Chardonnay " Maresh Vineyard " 2008 ( $31.49 ) that was more Burgundian in style with great balance and mineral and a smooth, silky, fleshy Chardonnay fruit that I could robe myself and my palate in and enjoy thoroughly sipping thoughtfully before moving onto a meal with it.   3)  JEZEBEL Blanc blend of three or four grapes ( $19.99 ) which was richer, thicker - a heavier winter's coat. I liked it but coming after the first two of the Gruner Veltliner ( like a lighter coat ), the Riesling ( like Goldilock's perfect coat or porridge ) and then the Jezebel ( a bit too much coat for me on this day ) but delicious nonetheless. We have now sold it for years and many of our customers have returned for it asking for it by name.
Then we moved onto the reds. I was taking pictures of all of this as I tasted and so will have some great ones to share with you later at : chatwine.blogspot.com and on our web page and on Facebook, too. We are now by the way on Twitter and so you will receive messages from us when I post things on Facebook.
     4) the Jezebel Pinot Noir 2009 ( $21.99 ) was quite balanced and tasty and will open nicely over the hour or so in the bottle at a meal and show more of it's tasty core as it opens gracefully. That has always been the " best seller " for us here in Cleveland Park and Mike Martin and I bought lots from then Charlie of the Nice Legs Selections. Thanks Charlie : Hello Mike up in Rochester , New York : we all here wish you well and a Happy New Year 2011!   5) the 2007 Willamette Pinot Noir ( $21.99 ) was a bit more stylish and refined - more subtle than the Jezebel and it had a denser mouth-feel, too : it will be really nice in another year or two though with a meal it may be enjoyed quite thoroughly even now. I just see no reason to rush through these wines if it is not necessary as they will reveal, all of them , more of their " treasures ".   6) the DAEDALUS CELLARS Willamette 2006 ( $52.99 ) Labrynth Pinot Noir  was showing quite well, too though I do believe that it could use some more time in the bottle even though much of the wine was now revealed to my palate I thought : food and more time for the wine to completely flesh-out in the middle.      We finished with the 7) Sweet Riesling 2008 ( $31.99 for the 375ml bottle size ) and I liked it's elegance, refinement, understatedness very much.
We spoke all the time and I loved listening to Sara and watching her smile : it was so bright and welcoming and alive and I was drawn to her and to her smile all the time making it a bit hard to focus at times as all I wanted to do really was soak it up and store it away fro later when I might be feeling a bit glum. Turns out  that Sara majored in California in Comparative Literature, is from Alaska, worked in New Zealand's Central Otaga region from March-May 2010 at OLSSENS which is right there across from FELTON ROAD Vineyard and she did visit the PEREGRINE Winery, too. She says that she has lots of friends and can set me up.
All these wines are of course available for Chris Barker and me to purchase for you all and we will be more than happy to do that if you call us or come by with an order. We included them into our Big-THEME Oregon Wine-Tasting of 2010 when owner Al of Nice Legs Imports poured them here himself with the help of our rep Dimirti. We poured the Pinot Gris white, the Jezebel off-dry white blend and the Labrynth Pinot Noir then.
Before letting Sara disappear with Tony as they walked out our front door I asked her a bit more and she told me that she would be in the area another few days but working principally in Virginia. I immediately responded, what a shame, that's where I live and they there would not be able to appreciate her and her talents and her wine-making as well as us here in Washington D.C. I am joking of course but not completely. It's too bad that we did not know earlier of your visit because we could have arranged here an really nice wine-tasting of the DAEDALUS CELLARS wines. I made a comment about Nice Legs and having to chastise them for this grand omission on their parts and considering their name and looking directly at Sara as I said all of this it became obvious to me that ... can't include this in writing, may not be taken in the right context so you can always stop by and I will fill in the space.
By the way you can reach Sara Shaw and DAEDALUS CELLARS at : 990 Hwy 99W, Dundee, OR. 97115, Tel : 503-538-4400  Fax: 5030538-4419  email at : sara@daedaluscellars.com  www.daedaluscellars.com for more info on all of these excellent wines.
I told Sara that I thought all of her wines were excellent and that I would be proud to have all of them in our store at any time. Great job Sara, and you are always welcome here anytime. Come back and let's do an in-store wine-tasting of your wines on your next visit. Cheers.

It's 32 degrees now outside and it's stopped snowing for the moment and I've got to get back to Ravi's fine liquor selections which are also many and varied and every bit as interesting as anything that we have here at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits.

     RAVI'S LIQUOR & LIQUEUR :

       1) SEA WYNDE Pot Still Rum  " BRN " ( On Special for $36.99, 46% alc. by volume, go to : www.greatspirits.com for more info ) is a product of Jamaica & Guyana and I believe new here to our selection of fine rums. The pot still " process produces richer and more complex flavors than can be achieved with column stills... This elegant recipe produces a rum of honeyed richness with notes of vanilla, fruit and roasted coffee. It has a fragrant bouquet, dynamic flavor and a sultry finish". I like this a sultry finish?!? I would buy it just for that.
       2) BOLS Genever Amsterdam ( Est. 1575 , $49.99 , 42% Alc. by volume, 750ml bottle ) is imported from Holland - a grain spirit, grain neutral spirits with natural flavors : and we have been out of it for a long time and EVERYONE HAS BEEN CRYING THE BLUES now for months if not for years!.        3) Barbados  " Zucca " Dal. 1845 ( $24.99. 16% alc. by volume,, liter, ) made by Eltare Zucca, this Amaro liqueur is a " new " addition for us. Cheers. Great to settle one's stomach after a flavorful and hearty meal.

     ANOTHER NEWS UPDATE :

Lauren Jones of Washington Wholesalers just came by with rep Sean Coleman ( Regional Manager ) of GRUPPO MEZZACORONA based in Trentino, Italy and we tasted through a series of their " new " releases quickly ( two Pinot Grigios, two Pinot Noirs, three Chiantis and one Moscato, and the dry brut N.V. ROTARI ). We have both ROTARI sparkling wines in the store now. We tasted the NV Brut rose ( $18.99 ) and the 2008 QUERCETO Chianti Classic. We have the magnums of the 2006 QUERCETO Chianti Classico  On Special now ( four or five left ) at only $14.99 a bottle : what a ridiculous deal! Come them get them before the snow finally gets to us later this evening. For more information contact Sean Coleman at : scoleman@prestigewineimports.com. Cheers. Thanks Laure and Coleman.

       4) NO. 8 CELLAR California Pinot Noir ( $10.99 ) is  drinking beautifully now and was one of my favorites. What a deal for $10.99 a bottle : balanced, fleshy and very nice on all counts- even with this cold weather.
       5) COLORES Del SOL Mendoza, Pinot Noir 2009 ( $10.99 ) : the higher alcohol on this one bothered me somewhat but it did not slow any of our customers down at all - they all pretty much loved it.

       3) ROBERT OATLEY 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot ,Mudgee, South Australia ( On Special for $13.99 ) : Still young and will improve more but with a meal now this is a real winner : medium-bodied, don't rush it, actually put it into a decanter and enjoy after an hour or so : lovely.
