AL VOLO open opened  last week and so we are all excited about that, just about the same time that the last jedi made his appearance on the large screen across the street at the uptown theater!

I WENT IN TO WISH THEM WELL, Danieli took me around, saw many of you dining there happy and smiling, animated, filled with life and joy. That was Friday night. I told danieli that i would have him make me something to take home to share with my family, will do it this week.

i have been getting the lunch specials over at mr chen's organic restaurant and always being quite pleased with my meals there. really tasty, flavorful, balanced and satisfying.

i have also been enjoying for lunch the various specials and regular menu items at byblo's deli, ... nice to have so many choices here.

the great thing is that so many of these meals will be great with the beers, wines and spirits we sell here. It is fun to have you all occasionally come by and ask us for recommendations to pair with your food choices, those that you will take home immediately and enjoy. It is a great team effort, and it works so well much of the time. Cheers!

Support your local artists and art. Cheers. I am an artist , too, and I will be there pouring some wine and speaking about my art as well. This is an opportunity to get some great last-minute gifts for yourself, or family and friends.

WE WANT TO THANK all the artists over at the Uptown Arts DC House for these last few months of enthusiasm and energy, vitality, youth and more that they have infused here. It has been a great working space for much art and has brought many new people here, too , with music and fashion and clothing and paintings, movies, art classes, drawing, and more. Marc has recently done some art for Marco at Byblos to help him advertise his specials. Go check it out.

I HAVE a new calm and clarity that is rather enlightening and that puts me more at ease and at peace that I am aware and able to move forward with family, community, country and world. That is quite reassuring as this last year for many it has been turbulent, jarring, unsettling and a puzzle that made our ' puzzler ' sore like in Dr Seuss stories! Need to ' un-sore ' our puzzlers! that is my mission, rise above and along and forward with purpose, mission, and accomplishments from small to medium to large. join me - us as we very much benefit from one another.

it has been grand to be cheerleaders for our wonderful neighborhood as well as many causes that many of us believe in and champion like planned parenthood, a woman's right to decide for herself what to do or not do about her own body, equality for women, equality for all, equal pay for women, no more sexual abuse of women, children, family members, acceptance of all people, tolerance, fairness, and so much more.

WHAT FOLLOWS BELOW is my old store email I wrote on December 17th, 2013, read and enjoy it if you have time. Cheers,  TONY 12/19/2017

I HAVE NO TIME : SO : will be piecing this email together for you all and sending it quickly!

TIME FOR  IT'S FUN FOR , JAGIR, MICHEL, SANTOS,  Sifredo, louis and me 0 TONY to help you with your various needs, especially now during the holidays ... happy holiday 2013 everyone!

THIS IS TODAY'S STORE EMAIL. It's been fun so far, orders to fill, phone calls to take, gifts to package and cards to write and to attach to gifts, gift certificates to fill out for people like Kevin.

THEN THERE WAS NICKIE that came in visiting her friend that lives here with her this visit as well as the last three weeks ago when Nickie asked me : " Do you have any of the dry red Schiava Alto Adige Auslese Italian wine from KALTERN? " Actually what really happened was that Kickie showed me the picture of the label on her phone and I saw it and said : " No, we are out. " This was, of course not what Nickie wanted to hear again today.

So I sold her some of the  2012 DAL MASO Del Veneto dry red , $11.99, 13% alcohol by volume to try, telling her the difference between the tow. Nickie needed another bottle so we decided on the 2012 MARQUES DE ZENETE Valencia Spanish Tempranillo, On Special for $8.99, 13.5% alcohol by volume. Then I got our local rep Andrew on the phone, ordered the wine, put Nickie on the phone to tell him the story and say : " I want your job " after I told her Andrew had been in Oregon buying " new " wines to sell.

BEFORE THAT TOM came by to buy lottery tickets ( as the number is HIGH! really high now ). Tom needed some for gifts and some for himself. What fun, everyone wants to win! Cannot Blame anyone, I will have to play, too.

BEFORE TOM I WAS HELPING Caroline Baculund ( spelling ? ) that's 93 years , went first to buy a vacuum-cleaner down the street, passed our store with her friend, needed two " smooth " reds for $12 approximately to enjoy while she read, said she enjoyed the combination. I found her two reds. I found out that Caroline was the librarian at the National Gallery of Art for twenty-five years : all so impressive! She also has a bottle of the DAL MASO Cabernet Veneto red, $11.99 to try and see what she thinks? I asked her as she walked away from the store down the street : " You still read books and not from a Kindle? " That's when she said : " Of course. " and told me what she did for a living. Impressive!

AFTER THAT CAROL approached me and said : " The man that knows so much ", thanks Carol. I appreciate that. We spoke and I helped you Carol and you said you wanted to buy a lottery ticket so you could buy our store and put the other store down the street out of business because they never treated you well or made you feel appreciated, you always felt like they were talking down at you. Thanks Carol for all the complements - we appreciate them all. And I have not included the name of the store here even though you have clearly said it more than once. We are not about talking down or bad about our competition, but we do like and appreciate complements. Happy holidays to you and your family!
SO YOU CAN SEE with the holidays and the lottery we are busy and happy for it!

This Is A 2-Year-Old Store Email to read and enjoy for the nostalgia and to see how things have changed or stayed the same : see where you stand in all of this
IT'S FUN FOR MIKE AND ME to work with a store bulging at the seams with lots and lots of bubbly ( many customers are saying that they have never seen so much bubbly here at one time ) and wines specially-suited for these warm holidays inside with rather cold weather outside. Get by a fire, cuddle, snuggle, stay warm and keep that smile both inside and outside and share these moments all around.

WE HERE HAVE SO MUCH GOOD CHEER in Cleveland Park that includes all the liquid forms of alcohol from milder to mid to stronger : depending on any of your needs. CALL US or RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL and let us know how we can help you plan and organize a home party, an office party, a gift to be delivered to someone special or someone that just did something for you. I LOVE THIS STORE AND NEIGHBORHOOD because someone is always doing something for someone else and the gifts just continue to go back and forth every day here. MANY OF OUR CHAMPAGNE and our bubbly, single malts and other spirits come in nice, easy-t0-wrap packages. So, if you are looking for one-stop shopping please think of us.

ON ANOTHER POSITIVE NOTE it is thrilling to see something going into the old MacDonald's location soon as well as the old Starbucks. The old Magruder's location will be filled by an expanding Palena, etcetera ... THESE ARE GREAT SIGNS for our neighborhood and we are all doing as well as the times warrant given your active and continued support. THANKS MILLE FOIS! We cannot do any of this without you; we know it.

LOOKING FOR ANYTHING SPECIAL/ hard to get, unusual, something from your past, something that you just tasted in a restaurant or on a trip somewhere?
Please give us a call at : 202-363-4265 and we will see what we can do for you to track it down if we do not already have it. A LOT OF OUR BUSINESS is DELIVERIES and SPECIAL ORDERS so please call CALL or RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL. It comes right back to Mike or me and we try to act upon your requests immediately.

     LIQUOR & LIQUEUR :

RAVI continues to ADD pretty much every  " new " VODKA, GIN, BOURBON, TEQUILA, RUM, SCOTCH, CANADIAN WHISKY - the whole liquor business has exploded with multiple choices from the names that you already know to those that you have never heard of before. It's a rapidly-growing business that was almost dead and on it's last legs a few years ago.AMAZING TURN-AROUND and as a result RAVI OFFERS MANY as they are released and available for the first time ever. if they are successful and you all return for more he continues with them.

          WINE : LIQUOR Continued :

IT'S PRETTY MUCH THE SAME with us : shelf space here is limited and valuable and so both Ravi as well as Mike and I change things around often to give the " new " items " a chance to be seen and purchased by you. If he does not have something you want he can order it as long as some company has it for us to buy. The same is true with us. This goes for the expanding range of LIQUOR as well as LIQUEURS. ASK US, don't be shy. It's hard to see everything immediately here and often we have to put it someplace that we know where to find it when you ask as we do not have enough space to adequately display everything visibly and easily. PLEASE BEAR WITH US as we are trying to accommodate so many " new " as well as  " old " favorites : daunting but doable, really.
