Fewer Degrees Of Separation 2 BEDELL ' 2010 ' taste red ' dry red blend from the North Folk Of Long Island Because Of Customer Ben that Came In Search Of It At Cleveland Park Wine And Spirits Earlier On July 31st, 2014 : Cheers, Glad We Could Help Ben!

Ben came here earlier and had a magazine in his hands that he was clutching and he said : " this is just on the chance that you might have it. You would be one of the very first. I never have any luck when I ask for the wines that have been written up and are supposed to be in the stores listed. " I asked him : " Which wine is that? " hoping that I would have whatever wine he was looking for. " he Bedell Cellars? " Be continued. I beamed and said immediately : " Yes, we have it. " as I reached for it with my right hand. It was there just by where we were standing. Ben beamed, too. He was thrilled, he was so surprised. I told we had good inventory and that we could sell me whatever he wants. Ben told me that he has to try it first and then decide. I loved this, we sell it for $29.99 a bottle On Special , it has 13 percent alcohol by volume, from North Folk of Long Island, a 2010 vintage, and we tasted it here with customers last weekend when our local rep Andrew Stover was here tasting it and that we sold a number of bottles and the reception of the wine was really positive. Love it, love having the wine here, love this story, and I am thrilled that it had such a positive outcome. Now we just have to wait Ben and find out if you like it or not? Cheers,   ...   happy thursday everyone, July 31st, 2014 ...  ...

It's the 2010 BEDELL taste red that was reviewed : a blend of 60 percent Merlot, 20 percent Syrah, 12 percent Petite Sirah, 6 percent Cabernet Franc and 2 percent Malbec, On Special for $29.99 a bottle

Having Both Vintage & Style Questions Raised For Me When Trying The FONTODI Tuscan Vineyard Wines Currently Available Through Vinifera Imports With Local Rep Eric @ Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits On Tuesday, July 29th, 2014 : Liking Some Very Much Which I Found Classic & Traditional , Liking Less Those I Thought Might Be Made More For Current Palate Tastes?!? I Wonder About This?

These are just the pictures to enjoy now, I will write my thoughts and impressions of the wines as soon as I am able. Cheers, enjoy this glorious Wednesday. What a wonderful treat it was to try these FONTODI wines yesterday with rep Eric from Vinifera Imports. They are amazing, some suiting very much my palate and tastes, and some less so. I need to revisit this and to taste more of the current vintages to see the recent development of both vintages and styles to better know where FONTODI has already been, is, and is heading... fascinating all of this, truly fascinating.

Glad that Eric let me taste these freshly-opened yesterday, what a wonder, what a treat, what an opportunity. Cheers, Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn  7/30/2014  it is absolutely glorious our weather her in the Washington D.C. region today as it was yesterday. To what do we/ I owe this grand fortune of both weather and wine? I am eternally grateful. Grazie Eric.

This was quite the grand start to my Tuesday morning on an already glorious day with low humidity and fresh and cool and baby blue skies when Chris came to taste me on the Direct Import offerings from Vinifera Imports with the FONTODI Chianti Classico wines and I bought a case each of the 2011 Chianti Classico in the 750ml bottle, as well as the 375ml bottle ; and the 2000 Syrah as well from FONTODI, even though it was the 2003 I tasted, the 2000 is supposed to be vastly superior, and I LOVEd the 2003 Syrah : all these two wines were classic, tradition-tasting wines for me, not modern and meant to please the modern palate : rather traditional and meant to please the classic palate : amen! Cheers, thanks - grazie Eric ... TONY.... 7/29/2014 ... thanks for sharing these wines you opened today ....

I do suffer something awful the arduous duties of tasting wines at Cleveland Park Wine & Spirits : but someone has to do it, okay : might as well be me! Cheers all on this glorious Wednesday morn ... TONY

More to follow really soon!   TONY

1/ Maraschino Liqueur : pot distilled Marasca and Montmorency cherries from
LEOPOLD BROS. : $35.99 a 750ML bottle, 30 percent alcohol by volume, Denver,
Colorado : what I have discovered and like about the LEOPOLD BROS. products is
their elegance, polish and finesse in many instances. he ' Navy Strength ' gin
is perhaps the only one that is too strong for me, but that is my palate. try
their ' Avaition ' cocktail of : 2 oz LEOPOLD'S gin, three quarters LEOPOLD
BROS.'S Maraschino Liqueur, one quarter fresh lemon juice and one quarter creme
de Violette. Shake and strain this all into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a

4/ ' Watershed Gin ' from Catoctin CREEK . Organic hand crafted, small
batch, triple distilled from Rye and Wheat , $37.99 a 750 ML bottle, 50 percent

gin as it is so smooth and silky and without edge. I think that many will like
this complete finesse and polish and enjoy their cutting their teeth with this
as their first gin experience, or as a mellower, more easy sipping gin,
especially when outside in the heat and the humidity, as today we have very
little, bit the humidity will rear it's ugly head and face soon enough!

yeah!

WAS treated with my wife to a Sunday evening performance of " the Lion King " at
the Kennedy Center by our daughter on a beach/weather night out on the terrace
before the extraordinary performance where there was a breeze coming off the
Potomac River and the fountains and the line of Weeping Willow trees was pretty
magical when you combined all of this with the writing from John F. Kennedy with
words to the effect that the arts are as cherished and important to us, or
should be, as business is, and that this is our time to make the arts as
respected and appreciated, always growing ... I love / loved that being an
artist myself, so inspiring, and then to see the remarkable work of cast,
costumes, sound  live and recorded, scene, sets, lighting, words and images and
songs in English and in other languages, too ... and to have cast members come
into the audience : well, I was blown away, truly blown away, magical, and to be
with my daughter and wife, only wish that our two ailing mothers could have been
with us, too as they are aging gracefully and are suffering from so much
wear/and/tear of doing 150 percent for all of us as they have selflessly now for
so many wonderful years! hank you ladies, you are wonderful, I was glad to be
able to tell my mother all about this yesterday afternoon when I went to see
here and work in her beloved garden that needed some loving and water, weeding,
washing and repositioning, too for full, glorious, UProarious effect, dazzle,
and spectacle and appreciation ... got my hands dirty in re/potting, got basil
all over my hands, too ... what a wonderful wafting smell/spell that is ...

reminded me of this wine when we met with Estebe the other day. We have sold it
here before and so we are happy to have it back today. It is On Special for
$9.99 a bottle, regularly $11.99 a bottle. You should try it : the CHANARMUYO
wines are in general more earthy and spicy and more to be enjoyed with food. his
is medium/bodied and balanced and the food helps to flesh it out a bit and round
out it's edges and sharp accents. Cheers. We also have the Syrah back as well as
the Malbec and the dry white Viognier as well : all On Special for $9.99 a
bottle.

OVER $10 a Bottle :

elegant, fruit forward, soft dry white that is medium to light bodied,
refreshing and easy to sip and enjoy on it's own or with a meal. It showed
beautifully when Fernando and I tasted it with you this past Saturday. Cheers.

2/ 2012 Pinot Noir from California's Santa Barbara County region and made
by the SANA BARBARA Winery , $22.99 a bottle, an elegant, fresh, rounded,
balanced and delicious/drinking littler bodied red that could and was slightly
chilled by us to firm it up, to draw it together, to give it the energy it needs
to always put it's grape/wine/fruit flavors up front and center, so pleasing. It
was  huge hit this Saturday when Fernando and I tasted you all on it. Cheers.

3/ ' Phantom ' dry red blend from California's BOGLE Winery of Old Vines
Zinfandel and Mourvedre, and some younger vines of Petite Sirah, this 2010 ,
$26.99 a bottle, was showing remarkably well this past Saturday. It surprised
and greatly pleased me as it did many of you that stopped by to shop and taste.
It simply needs time in the bottle. It will stay like this for awhile and
improve even more and that is good, as even more nuances of flavors will develop
more ...

4/ Ribolla Gialla from JERMANN , the dry white 2010 ' Vinnae Servus Cella '
is drinking beautifully according to Hans our good customer this morning. He
read about the grape in a mystery novel by a famous female writer who's name he
could not recall earlier. he character drank Ribolla Gialla and so he wanted to
try some with his friend. hey did. loved it's elegance and polish and subtlety
and yet wanted for the price of $32.99 a bottle for it to be bolder, brasher,
gutsier and more flavorful. Funny, Hans demonstrated with his hands from the top
of the bottle to the bottom that it was consistent from start to finish. I bet I
would love it, really I do. Cannot wait to try it.

I AM JUST BACK FROM a great week off at the Outer Banks with my family and I was
glad to be able to take some wine with us. I wanted to buy a bottle or two of
some of the wines ( I think that there are 80-plus wineries now in North
Carolina ) of North Carolina but all I saw were the sweet Muscadine wines and I
wanted some of the dry one. Oh well, next time. I got a great brochure on these
wines by the way and am happy to share it with anyone interested? Just let me
know, it's still at home.
WE DRIVE BY the SANCTUARY VINEYARD each time we go and return from the beach and
it looks as if they are planting more grapes and expanding and this time as I
drove home I really did have a strong urge to stop and check it out. Any of you
ever stop and taste the SANCTUARY Vineyard, North Carolina wines/ Please let me
know if you have : I'd love to hear what you thought. Cheers.

SO : HERE ARE SOME BEERS from Santos:

1) Pumpkin Ale Ale Brewed with Pumpkin and Spices from POST ROAD  by the
BROOKLYN BREWERY ( On Special for $9.99 a 6-pack of 12 ounce bottles, 5% alcohol
by volume , Utika, New York ) : we have some and it being our most popular
seller of them all you should come and get as much as you can while you still
can. Ask Santos how much he was able to get this time? This style of beer was
very popular in the 18th century will colonial Americans. Cheers.
2) Sour Power 100% Brewed In Belgium from GLOBAL BEER Networks ... this
MONK'S CAFE was brewed & bottled by :  Brewery Van Steenberge, B-9940 Ertvelde.
Talk about a complicated yet fun label : full of intrigue and like reading the
old cartoons. It sells for $20.99 a six-pack of 12-ounce bottles and is in fact
a selection of three beers ( 2 each ) in this 6-pack:  1) 2 Monk's Cafe,  2) 2
Petrus Oud Bruin  and  3) 2 Aged Pale Ales. WOW : sounds and looks like so much
intrigue and adventure. Join in. Cheers.
3) " The Doppelrock " from GREAT LAKES Brewing Co. ( On Special for $10.99
a 4-pack of 12-ounce bottles, 7.8% alcohol by volume, from Cleveland, Ohio,
www.greatlakesbrewing.com ) : " Round and malty, our dopplebock lager - German
for double bock - celebrates the style originally developed by medieval monks ".
Try some.
4) Cassis black-currant Lambic Belgian Cassis beer from Brouwerij LINDEMANS
( On Special for $10.99 a 750ml, since 1811 ) is one of the lesser-known Lambic
beers where fruit is added to the beer. I saw it and wondered to myself if
anyone had ever added a splash of it to white still or sparkling wine? Would
that be worth trying? Anyone ever done this? Let me know : always curious,
always looking for ideas. After all, creme de cassis and either still or
sparkling wine is a classic blend, so why not have a splash of either added to
the beer that is flavored with the black currant? Cheers.
5) O.K. BEER from OKOCIM is a Full Pale Piwo Jasne Pelne imported from
Poland ( On Special for $10.99 a 6-pack of 12-ounce bottles, 5.6% alcohol by
volume ) is something new and exciting for us all here. Cheers.

LIQUOR / LIQUEUR From Ravi :

1) Barenjager Honey & Bourbon, imported from Rinteln, Germany ( $27.99, 35%
alcohol by volume ) is ALL THE RAGE these days and more and more people are
asking about these honey-infused bourbons and whiskies from the United States,
Canada and now Germany, too! For more information go to :
www.barenjagerhoney.com. The honey takes the burn away from the bourbon and
makes it quite a delight to sip and enjoy as you feel the stress and the worry
and the bother of the day disappear from your shoulders and you smile and laugh
even once again?!?
2) " Sunshine " sun-kissed citrus fruit from MALIBU ( On Special for $14.99
a 750ml bottle, 21% alcohol by volume, www.malibu-rum.com ) makes a fine MALIBU
Sunshine Soda :  with  1 Part MALIBU Sunshine,  2 Parts Lemon Soda  : serve over
ice in a tall glass and garnish with a lime.
3) Angostura Trinidad & Tobago Caribbean Rum " 1919 " Finely-Distilled
Premium Rum - First Casked in 1919 - ( $34.99,   40% alc. by volume,
www.angostura.com ) was awarded :  1) Rum of the Year by MUNDAS in 2005 and
2006,  2) Double Gold Medal Winner by the San Fransisco World Spirits
Competition 2009 and the Rum Masters in 2011  and more ...,  3)  95 Rating from
the Wine Enthusiast  and  4 ) Highly Recommended by U.S. Spirits Journal 2002.
CLEARLY, it's good and should be sampled. EVERYONE KNOWS ALREADY how great the
Angostura of bitters. Cheers.
4) Mirto dell'Isola di Sardegna, this TREMONTIS makes the Myrtle Berry
liqueur ( $38.99, 30% alcohol by volume ) from Rome, Italy is " new and exciting
". I want to try some of this simply for the experience itself.
I will ask Ravi if we can't get Jody Jackman to open a bottle for us and
share it with our customers at her next in-store wine-tasting here? That would
be fun and I am sure once that people try it that it will sell. Someone creative
will come up with a cocktail that will include this taste and then it will fly
off our shelves?!? We will see. Come get some and try it on for size, fit and
feel. Cheers.

WINES From Michel Et Tony :

WHITES :

1) Wine Men Of GOTHAM Chardonnay 2011 ( $9.99, 12% alcohol by volume ,
www.gothamwines.com.au ) is a refreshing dry white to enjoy with really low
alcohol for an Aussie wine! I love that, really I do. Refreshing and nice summer
sipping as well as a great price, too.
2) Moscato Vino Frizzante by BOTER from Puglia in southern Italy ( $10.99 ,
8% alcohol by volume, www.bacchanalwines.com ) is not as sweet as many of the
Moscato made further north in Piemonte where it is the most famous. It's
actually lighter, less intense and easier to sip and enjoy in this heat and
humidity. It's also a great value. How do I know all this? Well, I tasted it
with Michel before leaving for the beach on vacation. I also know by looking at
the alcohol at 8%. For many further north the alcohol is lower : 5 and 6 %.
Remember that, it makes it easier when you want to know how sweet something is.
Cheers.

Dry Roses : Two :

1) Rosato Colline Teatine 2011 dry Italian rose from MASCIARELLI ( $14.99 ,
12.5% alcohol by volume ) is flavorful, rich, lush and a big, tasty mouthful of
flavors that when combined with the deep color spell a wonderful visual and

everything more that anyone could ever want and at a GREAT VALUE, too. We have
sold more than eighty cases of it at this price. WHAT A DEAL! Only fifteen cases

the mouth and palate so completely that when we opened it here two weekends' ago
people loved and bought it. SAVE 20% Off the bottle tomorrow and Thursday.
Cheers.

and so refreshing. Chill it slightly twenty minutes.
ALSO COMES in the equally delightful dry white Malvasia MONTEVENTO for the same
price of only $8.99.
6) Merlot 2011 from COUSINO MACUL in Chile's Maipo Valley ( $11.99, 14%
alcohol by volume, www.cousinomacul.cl ) is a lways a pleasure to enjoy with or
without a meal. I have been selling this wine now since the mid eighties and we
have grown up together and have our own individual stories to tell as well as
those where our paths have crossed. Bright, fresh and toasty!
7) Pinotage 55% / and 45% Shiraz dry red blend called " Dawn " from  SEVEN

8) Pinot Noir Gran Reserva from Chile's Casablanca Valley from INDOMITA (
$11.99, 13.5% alcohol by volume ) is really drinking well and both Michel and I
really liked it when Lucinda tasted us on it. Thanks Lucinda.
9) 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon from GOTHAM in the Mclaren Vale of South
Australia ( $19.99, 14.9% alcohol by volume, www.gothamwines.com.au ) is classic
Aussie Cabernet Sauvignon that is well-made, balanced, flavorful ,
value-oriented and a treat to enjoy with or without a meal. Cheers.
10) 2008 Shiraz from the Barossa Valley and made by GOTHAM ( $18.99, 13.3%
alcohol by volume ) is classic BIG, RIPE, UNCTUOUS,
to-the-very-edge-not-over-and-back-safely taste that is nice because it offers
so much fruit and flavor and mouth-filling satisfaction that you just know most
people will prefer it to the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon. Not me, I prefer the
Cabernet Sauvignon any day. I have to work at it a bit more, it challenges me
more : all things I like and welcome. Cheers. That is why we have both.

Rediscovering BAREFOOT Wines Through Soren Our Local/ Excellent Aussie Rep For NDC & Trying The ' Refresh ' Floral and Bright, Slightly Fruity And Frizzante Blend That I Can Both Sell & Recommend To Customers To Try, Especially In These Hot & Humid Months Here In The Washington D.C. Metropolitan region Of Ours! Cheers !!

Soren Ludvigsen, Luis Alas and 2 others like this. I copied and pasted the picture that was liked by these four earlier - they have not read or commented on the rest ...  from our Facebook account at : Cleveland Park Wine & Spirits, and then added what follows below here ... cheers, TONY 7/27/2014

Cleveland Park Wine & Spirits Thank you Soren, Luis , Michael and ACS for this, I appreciate it, I am glad to see you like this and am glad to tell you so as it helps me to keep working ahead to promote wines ' big and small ', and ' known and unknown. As I was telling our rep for BAREFOOT wines that came with Soren, I knew the wine Barefoot when it was : " Davis- Bynum " I believe? That was a long , long, LONG time ago ... and we used to have two wines from them : an 'upper ' and a 'lower ' end and, depending on the prices, and our needs at the time we might use one or the other. This must have been back in the late eighties I believe?

Anyway, that was an exciting time and it was a small winery and I enjoyed selling the wines. What I also told our rep here that I was meeting for the first time and tasting with her ( thanks to Soren Ludvigsen our local NDC rep ) was that it was because of Soren that I was really willing to meet and taste with her.

I told her that it was the strong connection with Soren that made the difference, that BAREFOOT did not need my business, that Soren did, that the " Refresh ' white soft, floral, fresh and slightly frizzante CA. wine ( I am taking on faith that the grapes are from California without grape juice added from other states like Washington State, Chile or Australia? Clarify this for me if you will? ) at $8.99 was something I could actually recommend from BAREFOOT, as the rest that I had tried I found quite unpalatable and hardly reminiscent of wine at all ...

and that because Soren needed our business , that I would include it here.

So here it is now and Olivia was thrilled to taste , discover , like and buy it recently : and with a big smile on her face, too! beaming I would gladly say, thanks Soren and Olivia and our ' newfound ' rep friend here ... cheers, Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn 7/27/ 2014 ... Happy Sunday all ... going to see ' The Lion King " musical tonight with wife and daughter at the Kennedy Center at 7:30PM, take care, TONY

BRUGAL Special Extra Dry Dominican Republic Oak Cask Aged Rum Produced , Aged & Bottled By BRUGAL, S.A. Puerta Plata, D.R. ( The Refreshingly Dry Rum ) Through The Glass Bottle!

Make a daiquiri and share it with a friend! Yeah, simple and tasty, no need to fret, no need to over-thing or to be too concerned with any eventual outcome : go for it, trust your gut, relax, no sweat, no worry : collect your friends and make some strawberry or fruit daiquiris with a blender, some ice, some fresh fruit, maybe even some frozen fruit that you buy at the grocery store and that has some sugar in it that when melted will add some sweetness, or cut the tartness and make the taste a bit more relaxed and mellow and fresh and pleasing as you sit back with family and friends and ' wax poetic ' and smile, and perhaps even close your eyes for a few seconds and muse and enjoy a more intense sensation as your taste buds and all your other senses take away some of the weight that may have been bothering you earlier , as together you sigh one big grand sigh of contentment and relief!

For the daiquiris I would use the clear rum pictured above : that will help you to ' rethink rum ' in a larger, more easy and less stressful way. Don't overthink, do not over reach : just think and reach enough. Remember that this is truly your moment, you've waited patiently for it, now you deserve to enjoy your moment fully on your terms and your own speed, whatever that might be. Chill baby, chill. Take another sip of that daiquiri.

Remember your past and the intense joy that some of those moments in the past provided, but , most of all enjoy the ' here and the now ', the present, this moment that is yours and that of those around you sharing in a therapeutic, healthy, invigorating, joyful way ' this moment ' of now, maintenant, ahora, agora ... now, now , now ,now NOW!

I remember my college days and before we had children. That's when I enjoyed daiquiris so much. They were delicious, refreshing, fruity and tasty and so very appreciated.

Enjoy this BRUGAL Extra Dry Dominican Republic with family and friends. If you get the chance go to the Dominican Republic and enjoy BRUGAL there. I enjoyed a week's trip to one of the hotel resorts on the East end of the Dominican Republic, right there by the crystal blue cobalt-aquamarine waters that dazzled and pleased and thrilled us. What a wonderful time that was : everything included, everything paid : no worries , no wait, no stress and such great weather.

Everywhere my wife and I went there were stations / bars to stop off at and ask for a daiquiri. It was usually a lime or a lemon daiquiri with lots of crushed ice and so bloody refreshing! Never a shortage, never any concern, just smiles and pleasure and activity and motion and great weather all around to entertain, relax and please. Loved it!

I wish that I had enjoyed some BRUGAL on this trip, and I may have, I do not know. I did take the bottle in our room as a reminder and a gift of this wonderful trip. Alas it was not BRUGAL, too bad, I would have enjoyed that greatly, really I would have, as I did here tasting with the regional rep for BRUGAL pictured here in Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits one day when I came up to the register and was treated to the whole flight of the fine BRUGAL rums from the Dominican Republic. Gracias, thanks, I enjoyed the experience greatly.

You should all come and get some BRUGAL at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits at 3423 Connecticut Avenue, N.W. Washington D.C. , 20008 202-363-4265 anthony.quinn@clevelandparkwines.com ... to make you daiquiris and to enjoy sipping, too : especially the others that they make.

I am an artist and so I like taking these artsy photos here : hope you like them, hope they give you the push needed to come visit our store or your local one in search of some BRUGAL Extra Dry to enjoy ... that's the idea.

So many of us speak with our hands without really knowing how much we do : case-,-point above. Lovely. A photo helps to capture and to remind of this.

Nothing like a smile to draw one closer, to relax one more, to make one feel more at ease and at home.

And that smile with a pour of the BRUGAL Extra Dry rum ... can't ask for more than that!

Thanks for the taste, thanks for the smile, thanks for the lesson. Thanks for helping me to relive my college and pre-children days and the 25th anniversary spent in the Dominican republic with my beautiful , intelligent wife!

My favorite ' Dominican Republic island ' statement made by the locals trying-wanting to sell us something was and still is : " Almost free, 99% free! "

Wow, that one remaining percent sure was expensive!

Cheers, Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn  Happy Sunday, July 27th, 2014 ... enjoy, have some BRUGAL Extra Dry rum as well as some of the three others pictured above!     TONY        You will be glad that you did ...

Cheers, thanks Nassos for all your fine and hard work here ... cheers, happy weekend all! TONY 7/25/2014 We sampled som Xinomavro red, $23.99 OENOS , some Moscofilero dry white, $13.99, some Malagousia dry and floral white, some Agiorgitiko RED ON BLACK pointed, perky and sharper, more unrefined dry red, some Santorini dry white that I said was like Greece's version of France's Sancerre ( Nassos did not like this at all! ) , and more ,,, from dry whites ( 4 ) to a dry 70-year-old-vines Xinomarvo and another grape dry rose, On Special for $11.99, and two fine dry reds, too ... something for everyone. Cheers, this gentlemnan pictured here had some sprigs of fresh thyme in his pocket that he had just picked and which were so very aromatic, and , unfortunately the bottle of Moscofilero I am holding is blocking the view : too bad! Reconnecting Today Friday, July 25th, 2014 With The Wines Of FABBIOLI CELLARS & NORTH GATE Vineyards In Loudoun County, Virginia With Lucinda Smith, Tasting With Fernando Valenti & Customer Andrew Earlier Today @ Cleveland Park Wine & Spirits In Northwest, Washington D.C., 20008

Lucinda Smith Saturday, September 6th - 2pm to 6pm - with Fabbioli Cellars Doug Fabbioli), North Gate Vineyard ( Vicki Fedor & Mark Fedor) and Granite Heights Winery. Great VA Wine to come try!!!!
Lucinda tasted us today on the current and ' new ' releases from both the FABBIOLI Cellars wines as well as those of North Gate : both in Loudoun County, Virginia : and we worked on our winetasting with owner Doug Fabbioli and Mark here on Saturday, September 6th, 2014 from 2 to 6 PM , no charge, join us, there will be a third winery that we will be tasting and adding, too. Cheers, thanks Lucinda! Always great to see you here in the store ... I liked the wines, but it made me think : " What did / does the Russian think?!? " Cheers, happy weekend all, tony

Anthony Quinn says ..

The wines are all excellent that Fernando Valenti and I sampled today with Lucinda Smith  from both NORTH GATE and also from FABBIOLI CELLARS. We started with the NORTH GATE Cabernet Franc that was delicate, elegant, a perfect wine for the normal heat and humidity of this Washington D.C. and northern Virginia weather that we get. It could have been chilled more. I like my Cabernet Francs chilled some so that they vibrate on my tongue and palate like when plucking a violin string, I want there to be some tang and some spice and some struggle, a sort of willing tug-of-war if you will, not just ease-and-please, some fight! That's what I like in my Cabernet Francs and so I would have chilled it Mark for thirty minutes or more and enjoyed it with a plate of cold-cuts, mid l cheeses, pickles and some rillettes and some subtler pate as well ...
I liked it, Fernando really liked it, ...
and then we sampled some Merlot that I really liked for the bolder weight, the stronger accents of spices and the thicker, denser , pithier, perkier, punchier pronounced mouth-feel and contact : more tactile, more like wrestling and everyone winning! Something for everyone ...
we did start with the Chardonnay , and our State Department- retired customer - Andrew joined us, I invited him : he said that he, in all his years had never found a Virginia wine that he liked. I said that today we would turn that all around for him and he did taste. ...
We started with the Chardonnay from NORTH GATE that was more aromatic and floral with more butter scotch and honeysuckle and some almond and vanilla and almost too much of that all for me, just at the limit. A comment was made, I believe by Andrew himself that thought it would be fine to sip it outside when relaxing and chatting ,
and we all agreed. Lovely. ...
more on the Doug Fabbioli wines and the rest of the NORTH GATE Apple dry wine and the Raspberry-Merlot from FABBIOLI that I decided to try and blend, as well as Mark's Apple Wine that I blended, too ... making some cocktails, some cocktails for each and every month to give everyone something fun and special to make to celebrate the changing seasons and the various months ... to draw attention to the products and how they might yield even more surprises and delights!
Cheers, thanks Lucinda, gracias Fernando, glad we started to turn you around Andrew with these wines from Virginia : high time, too! Cheers, Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn Happy weekend all, Friday night on a cool, delightful night outside, July 25th,

Virginia Wine tasting coming to Cleveland Park Wine & Spirits on Saturday, September 6th from 2pm to 6pm. Fabbioli CellarsNorth Gate Vineyard and Granite Heights Winery - some superb wines showing what Virginia wine has to offer. Tony & I having some fun, talking smack about the wine business, certifications, independent wine shops and wine judging. Fun times, Anthony Quinn!!

You bet Lucinda! I will finish my comments here in a day or two : stay-tuned! Cheers,  TONY 7/25/2014

Discovering Just Now, thursday July 24th, 2014 the IRISHMAN Irish Whiskeys , the Original, the Single Malt, the 12 Year Old Singlr Malt and the Cask Strength With Matt Our Local NDC Rep, With Conor Chase CSS Brand Manager of the IRISHMAN Whiskeys And Irish Cream, And With Walter Lupo Our LOcal PALM BAY International Fine Wines And Spirits Rep

JUST TRIED WITH MATT OF NDC IMPORTERS/ DISTRIBUTORS AND Conor Chase CSS the Brand Manager of the Irishman Handcrafted Whiskies and Walter Lupo the MD and DC Area Manager of Palm Bay Imports some of the Irish whiskies , 4 : 1/ the ' Original Clan ', 2/ the Single Malt, 3/ the 12 Year old Single Malt , and the 4/ the Cask Strength , as well as the Irish Cream that uses no preservatives and, unlike Bailey's and Carolan's that are using only one percent or less, by law, of Irish whiskey / the rest being neutral whiskey / in their Irish Cream : and this the IRISHMAN Irish Cream it is delicious and flavorful and rich and round and smooth and when we get it , it will sell for less than BAILEY'S ... we will arrange with Matt to do an in store tasting of it along with the Single Malt Irish whiskey that is really smooth and bright and richly textured on the palate, that has a lovely buoyancy and freshness and sunshine/bright taste with little or no bite, some real softness and taste and pleasing appeal, too. I liked it a lot, it will sell for between $35 and $40 a bottle. Nice. It was all a treat, they all have their charms and I have some here for Fernando to try when he arrives. Ask me, if any is here I will offer you a taste. ... the Original Clan has a bit more bite and attitude, leaner, a bit more grip and grit, less refined, the 12 Year Old Single Malt has more to offer and is more powerful and with some edge, too and I would enjoy it with a fine cigar, and the Cask Strength is even bolder, even more intensity with more polish and more refinement / I liked it a whole lot / and it will be FABulous with a cigar at the end of an evening when things are coasting and everyone is thoroughly relaxed and things are winding down! Cheers, thanks Matt, Conor and Walter : what a grand discovery and great treat, glad to be on board on this with you now. Happy thursday, July 24th, 214 .... tony

Trying The New Releases & Discovering Yet More " New " Wines From LEO HILLINGER Austrian Wines With Michael & Andrew Stover As Leo Himself Was Coming From New York As We Met & Tasted Yesterday, Wednesday July 23rd, 2014 @ CLeveland Park Wines & Spirits In Northwest, 20008, Washington D.C. ...

Michael from LEO HILLINGER Winery in Austria tasting the sparkling Pink that is creamy and smooth and silky and bright and elegant, and showing so nicely, and Michael tells me they are available now in 187 size now great! Here
s Michael Hoeffken to speak himself : " this is the perfect time of the year to try our sparkling pinot Noir called SECCO its such a refreshing yummi wine...but please be careful you might be addicted....
thank u Cleveland Park Wine and Spirits for beeing such an Supporter for our Wines...hope to welcome u asap in Austria again...
cheers Michael"

I hope you come by to see us today Leo ( Hillinger ) as I hear that yesterday you were on your way down here from New York and it has been awhile since you visited us last! It would be great to see you again and to trade stories ... Thank you Satosji and Tetsuo, glad you like this : it sure was a delightful tasting with Michael and Andrew and Fernando, we enjoyed discovering a broader range of HILLINGER Austrian wines than we previously knew about : in particular the :

1) Single-Vineyard Pinot Blanc that had the body of a white French burgundy to me but that then began to take on so many more floral components of vanilla and tropical tones like pineapple and even honeysuckle and so much more : medium-bodied, delightful and ultimately perhaps best with a meal like an island Caribbean dish perhaps, or even perhaps a dish from Gaston Acurio of Peru, a variation of his " Cebiche Clasico " with a Japanese accent? I am intrigued by this, of course, and delighted to read the article in the Washington Post newspaper ( on the front page even ) entitled : " Letter From Peru ' Food empire that reinvented Lima casts eye on D.C. ' ... AND ...

2) the Single-Vineyard dry red Blaufrankisch that was so subtle and fruit-forward and fleshy and lovely and so approachable and drinkable, to whet the taste-buds, tease them, wake them up, alert them to a delightful medium-to-light-bodied red that needs to be slightly-chilled - it was not enough when we tasted it - that with a meal will help to make both shine. What are the Austrian chefs designing to serve and delight in food with this Blaufrankisch red that can still use more time, perhaps another 2-4 years to really develop and flower and come into full bloom?

Cheers, thanks Michael and Andrew. Will we see you today Leo in the store? Come on by , you are always welcome! Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn Happy Thursday all, July 24th, 2014
