This year we added the Brazilian SALTON Brut Non-Vinatge and the SALTON Espumante sweeter-style bubblies, both $14.99 a bottle :

Brought a bottle of the SALTON Brut espumante sparkling wine home last night, Saturday Deecember 7th, 2013 to enjoy here in northern Virginia with my family. Turns out we enjoyed it just my wife and I here on a snowy white late afternoon, early evening while listening to the c.d. by Jim Stutsman called his : " Winter Sampler " of old, classic songs that he puts together to share seasonally. he was the drummer since the beginning of the Washington Opera that performs at the Kennedy Center here in Washington D.C., Northwest. We love the music he assembles and shares with his friends. Tonight was no exception. We enjoyed the SALTON Brut, $14.99 ( the price at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits 3423 Connecticut Avenue N.W. Washington D.C. 20008, Tel : 202-363-4265  anthony.quinn@clevelandparkwines.com ) - we tasted it to grand success this past Wednesday at our Big-Theme Sparkling Wine-Tasting of 35 different bubblies . Tonight it showed really well all by itself before I brought out the cheeses : a creamy American herbed goat's cheese, a " Crotin de Chevre " and a " Brie De Meaux " that my daughter purchased and brought back last week from the Charles de Gaulle airport outside of Paris, France. The Brie de Meaux was fabulous with the SALTON, it worked beautifully, even with an older brie like this. That was a nice thing to notice. It was a delight, and we enjoyed it thoroughly, finishing the bottle over two-three hours just the two of us. Obregado SALTON Brut espumante!  Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn 12/8/13

In response to Dave McIntyre's recent post here on Facebook on sparkling wines to enjoy for the holidays...

At our Big-Theme Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits Sparkling Bubbly-Champagne tasting of thirty-five wines we introduced the SALTON Brut and the SALTON Espumante Moscatel ( both $14.99 ) that showed beautifully from Serra Gaucha and were a pretty big hit, sold quite a bit, too : as no one knew these two sparkling wines from Brazil, and with both the Soccer World Cup and the Olympics coming soon there they were quite the conversation and eye-opener Dave. Have you tried them yet? Enjoyed your article. Enjoy most of them and am sorry to say that I often have to defend them as being relevant, insightful and well-written. Cheers, happy holidays 2013, Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn  12/16/13, ...

I  wrote this just now to Dave

Next year we will taste the NATHALIE FALMET Brut Nature French champagne that just arrived yesterday in our store, Tuesday, Dec. 17th, 2013. Below is what I wrote onwe and champagne-maker Nathalie Falmet :

Je viens de voir ce matin Nathalie que dans le Washington Post " Food " section que vous-etes le premier sur la liste de Dave McIntyre qui ecrit au sujet des vins, et en cette article de le Washington Post newspapier , Mercredi le 18 Decembre : There's more to champagne than the bubbles " ... que vous-avez recu trois etoiles ( exceptional ) : et Dave a ecrit : "  Nathalie Falmet is the epitome of a small grower. She owns just three hectares ( about 7.5 acres ) of vines and produces her wines in a bare-bones warehouse. Her brut nature , from 100 percent pinot noir and made with no dosage of sugar, is electrifying in it focus and intensity. Alcohol by volume : 12 percent. "  ... J.W. SIEG Available in the district at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits; on the list at Degrees Bistro. Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn  12/18/13

I remember years ago drinking and loving the : no dosage LEGRAS Brut Integral that cost a whopping 53 francs I believe in Paris in the early seventies when I lived there with my family ( my father was a career diplomat with the American Embassy - Foreign Service there at the time, the Consul of Visas, then of Passports, then back again to the Consul of Visas in the Talleyrand building ), and we discovered it at the Caves de la Madeleine owned by Steven Spurrier. ... And on the night before my now wife and I left Paris, France to return to the United States in late August 1980 we drank a bottle of the LEGRAS Brut Integral : what great times and memories, and Nathalie's Brut Nature is in the very same league : extraordinary, challenges the limits! Cheers, sante all, Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn 12/18/13 the sun's out on this cold December morning and the skies are a dash milky-baby blue! TONY

Picture I took in the town of Bento Goncalves , Serra Gaucha, Vale Dos Vinhedos, Brazil when I arrived there at the Hotel Victoria Dall'Onder in late June 2012 and both Crucius and Milto Sebben offered me a taste of the estra dry SALTON espumante sparkling wine, my first glass of Brazilian wine in Brazil and boy did it taste great! Obregado Crucius e Milton! You made my day! Cheers, TONY 1/5/14

Part 2 BUBBLY-FRENCH CHAMPAGNE-Sparkling-Wine-Tasting 12/30/13 (12 photos)
This was a trial of sorts to give those good customers of ours like Evie, Gay and Mark and Phoebe a chance to come to our annual BUBBLY tasting that they missed, for whatever reason on Wednesday, December 4th, 2013. This one Grew from a tasting that Michel Dumas and Anthony Quinn ( me ) had set with Mike Cavanagh to taste the stille and sparkling wines of SALTON, Brazil, and OVER THE MOUNTAIN, South Africa on Monday, December 3oth, 2013. I pieced it together as I went along. Marcie Weinstein of Constantine Imports sent and interesting list of sparkling wines and French champagnes from around the world that included Italy, Austria, Australia, Germany, Portugal and owner James Henry here in Cleveland Park of Teavine sparkling green tea and honey stopped by, Andrew Stover of Vino50 Imports and Siema Imports had his usual " fun " STONE HILL , Missouri sparkling white and fruity rose, as well as his SHINDIG Vidal Blanc Finer Lakes, New York State selections as well as dry Italian Piemontese 100% sparkling rose made from the Nebbiolo grape, and BEA sparkling red Italian, too. And Mark Congdon of J.W. Sieg had the Nathalie FALMET Brut Nature French champagne that was so new and exciting and a great RM - recoltant manipulant champagne to taste with you all for the first-time as it is " new " and very limited in availability! FUN! It was a huge success and here are some pictures I quickly took with the use of Kevin Gleeson's i-phone that he loaned me. Thanks Kevin. Cheers and Happy New Year One and ALL! For ONE and for ALL! Equal opportunity, equal access for all! Cheers, TONY 1/5/14

On my drive to DOM CANDIDO winery in the Serra Gaucha region, the Vale Dos Vinhedos, Brazil's wine-grape-growing region, one of them as there are five or six. It was in Brazil's winter in late June 2012 and still everything was green and beautiful! Wow!   TONY   Ola Roberto!

Mike Cavanagh pours the SALTON espumante and the still wines, too! Obregado Mike!  1/5/14

This is Milton Sebben that in late June 2012 introduced me to SALTON espumante extra brut when he handed me a glass at the Hotel Victoria Dall'Onder in the wine town of Bento Congalves and thus created a bond between the three of us forever, as it was very tasty, alive, fresh, bright , a delight, and my first-ever glass of wine for me to drink in Brazil! Obregado Milton! here are two quick portrait sketches that I did of Milton while staying at the Hotel Victoria, and Milton poured me several glasses of the SALTON extra dry espumante while I stayed there, and I enjoyed each and everyone of them! " The only reason I'm on Facebook is because of you! " Dan proudly said with a bright smile to me when he greeted me here by the Italian wines last night. He said that he did not like Facebook but since his visit for our Part Two BUBBLY Tasting of 21 sparkling wines and French champagnes of Monday night, December 30th, 2013 he decided to LIKE us on Facebook and see what we were up to here on a daily basis. Thanks Dan, we appreciate that, we really do. It was great to see you last night here again. When you came on the 30th of December you liked the Champagne DUMANGIN and had a half-bottle of the NV Brut dry rose that you bought, $29.99 as well as another one or two which I cannot remember now. Oh well, too much to keep track of. On that night you and Jane and Michael our local amateur photographer all had lengthy conversations here. As a matter of fact Michael wanted to know Jane's name as he and she both shop here and taste often together at our tasting table. Cheers Dan, Jane and Michael! Come TODAY and taste with John and Theresa Morrison " new " arrivals from South Africa from 2-6PM! Cheers,  Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn 1/11/14
