HAPPY DIWALI / HAPPY FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS

I HOPE THAT WE HAVE ALREADY HELPED you all with what you need as today is Diwali and it's gray, cold, raining and a great day to be inside already well-provisioned. That would be the best. I looked into the Diwali holiday earlier as I do not know the details and I read that it is Diwali/ Deepavali : the festival of lights and the beginning of the Hindu New Year. I also learned that it is celebrated by India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Mauritius. That got my attention that Mauritius celebrates it as I have a good friend living there now, Tatiana Maria that used to sell quite a great selection of wines from Spain, Switzerland, Chile and Argentina, too. Oh, I forgot Portugal! Tatiana stops to say " hello " to all of us when she comes through to visit her family here and it's always a pleasure to see her.

IF YOU HAVE ANT " Last Minute " NEEDS for DIWALI please do come and see us. We have lots of liquor " on sale " as I understand that that is enjoyed on this day along with other things like wine and beer as well. Chris, one of our salespeople for one of the big wholesalers ( National ) was just here doing a fine job with our liquor displays : they have never looked better. Come check out our Specials on :  1) ABSOLUT 1.75ml, On Special at $33.99,  2)  Beefeater 1.75ml On Special at $28.99,  3) Jameson Irish Whisky On Special at $25.99,  4)  Absolute 750ml Holiday Collection bottles, 12 different ones in all On Special for $20.99, and  5) Absolute Pear vodka On Special for $20.99. COME AND CHECK THIS ALL OUT!
THERE'S A " Mail-In " $5 rebate here on the ABSOLUT vodkas. Come get some while you still can, good for a purchase of any two ( 2 ) 750ml bottles of ABSOLUT vodka. Great gifts, also fine for Diwali today! THE SUN'S COME OUT : it was rainy, dreary, gray, wet, and cold earlier when I walked our dog and neither of us enjoyed being outside then. It would be different now. This is all good news as the temperature has dropped.

BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU is this Thursday and we have our very favorites : the MANOIR DU CARRA Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages wines coming here and available for sale this Thursday when it is legal to sell them. It is supposed to be available for purchase every third Thursday of November and made with 100% Gamay grapes and using the process called " carbonic maceration " to make the wines as fresh and lively as possible. We will have open the bottles of the MANOIR DU CARRA for you all to taste here this Thursday, November 15th, 2012. JOIN US> We will also taste the GEORGES DUBOEUF and the BOUCHARD AINE PERE ET FILS as well. This will be fun, this will be festive, come and celebrate the tradition : " LE BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU EST ARRIVE ici chez Cleveland Park Wines Et Spirits! Cheers!!! Soyez toujours bienvenues ici chez Cleveland Park Wines et Spirits! Call to order and pay early : 202-363-4265.

SUNDAY WAS GLORIOUS for so many of us I am sure. I was outside raking and bagging leaves in my shorts. I felt great and happy to be outside with our two animals working hard to do a job that would be soon erased with more leaves falling. Sure enough this morning as I looked outside much of my hard work was gone and only the large bags filled with leaves told the story of the work already accomplished.

THIS PAST SUNDAY EVENING  with neighbors we enjoyed some excellent hummus and a brie-made-with-goats'-milk and some of the Jed STEELE California wines : 1 ) the Shooting Star Sauvignon Blanc and the  2) STEELE Old-Vines " Pacini " Vineyard 2008 Zinfandel. They were both excellent. Everyone liked both and I must say that the Shooting Star Sauvignon and the STEELE Pacini old-vines Zinfandel that Jed owns worked beautifully with our hors d'ouevres so well. The Zin and the Hummus were to " tell great stories for ", " imagine great scenarios for ", " relax and enjoy, smile, feel joy and absolute harmony, faith, contentment for " ... pretty much everything except to " die for " : reason being you can only die once. You want to return for more of this type of contentment and joy when two or more things complement each other so as they did this past Sunday evening. Cheers. THIS PAST WEEKEND we had a KONA Brewing Company tasting of three-of-the-four Hawaiian beers. They were all well-received and we have some in our cooler and ready for immediate sale. We have in the front the " Big Wave " Golden Ale On Special for 8.99 a six-pack 12 ounce bottles, 4.4% alcohol by volume, ) : " ... making handcrafted ales and lagers of un-compromised quality ...  catch the crest of a breaking wave and ride it all the way,  in our sun-drenched big wave golden is a smooth refreshing brew inspired by what makes Hawaii great ". For more info go to :www.KonaBrewingCo.com. Cheers. ALSO THIS PAST FRIDAY we had Jody Jackman of Winebow Imports here with us tasting two fine " classics " in the wine world :  1)  Pinot Grigio delle Venezia, the 2011 Italian  dry white from ZENATO ( $12.99, 12.5% alcohol by volume,www.zenato.it ) , and the  2) Malbec 2010 from CATENA  from Mendoza, Argentina ( $22.99, 13.5% alcohol by volume,  , founded in 1902, 3rd and 4th generations : Nicolas and Laura Catena ).
BOTH showed beautifully. The Pinot Grigio was fragrant and floral and had a lovely accent of peach that I found very appealing this past Friday. So did many of our customers as we sold quite a bit. The CATENA Malbec was flavorful, round, forward and easy to sip with soft, generous tannins. What's not to like? That's why it, too sells so well. BOTH are here in stock around our tasting table. Come check them out and see what you think. The Malbec is perfect for this cold, especially when the sun goes down. The ZENATO Pinot Grigio is perfect to sip anytime all by itself. The owner Alberto Zenato came to see us years ago. We have met Ernesto Catena here in the store that sells us his AKMA NEGRA M Blend dry 2009 ( $21.99, Mendoza, Argentina, www.almanegrawines.com.ar , 13.5% alcohol by volume ).
