Saturday,December 19th, 2010 Tastings : ROBERT ALEXANDER, BEAUMONT, DE MEYE( SA ), EVERGREEN ( OR ), KNOB CREEK, RI, MAKERS MARK46,JIM BEAM "Black";

This was quite the Saturday tasting here at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits once again with Theresa Morrison of Boutique Vineyards South34 Selections tasting her South African wines with one Oregon Pinot Noir : and the young lady tasting an assortment of bourbon whiskeys and rye, too.

Many people worked their way through the wines first and then onto the bourbon whiskies afterward : and we sold a good amount of both as well as introducing many of our customers to " new " tastes so that when they need one of the items we tasted they can purchase them then.

It's a win-win situation for everyone because everything gets some more exposure and people get to taste them and learn something for themselves and go away feeling enriched.

The people that come to pour for our Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits customers are all quite friendly and more than willing to offer suggestions of how best to enjoy whatever they are tasting , with family and friends and office associates as well as with meals or not. Everyone comes away having gained a bit extra something.

It's always great to have Theresa and John Morrison here as they know their South African wine imports inside and out and can walk us -taste us through pretty much anything that they represent so that we come away knowing so much more than when we started.

I visited many of these vineyards with John Morrison two years ago and so they are like my extended family especially when I consider that many of them have been in our store as well such as Phillip the owner of DE MEYE Vineyards. That's in Stellenbosch and we tasted this time with Theresa the DE MEYE " Little River " dry blend of the Shiraz and the Cabernet Sauvignon for $13.49. It's showing really quite well now : lots of pizazz, some really nice spice and some excellent bright toasty/roasted flavors, too. It's a great food wine and I can just see myself now on the day after Christmas ( December 26th, 2010 ) lighting up our grill out back in the snow as it has already started to come down ( there's a lovely layer of white outside now with the promise of much more this evening ) and grilling some chicken thighs and getting them really a bit charred and crusty and oozing flavor and being nice and juicy and combining this with the DE MEYE " Little River " dry red blend that I planted in the snow by the grill as I grilled and as the snow continued to fall ever so beautifully-gradually : get the image?!? Hope so, I think it would be a winning combination and in the next few days I hope to put this to the test! Cheers, ...

I just finished watching the movie : " Julie & Julia " with my family and we loved it. It was an X'mas gift and I could also see having a number of these wines that Theresa tasted with our customers with one or another of Julia Child's recipes : like the duck dish that Julie made on the 365th day - her last recipe from Julia and Simca's " Mastering Of French Cooking " cookbook. The EVERGREEN VINEYARD Spruce Goose 2006 Oregon Pinot Noir would be great with this duck dish.

Anyway, it's now 10:50 PM on Sunday night , December 26th, 2010 and it's my birthday tomorrow and I've got to get to work to write the store email and then hopefully meet my family at Lavandou Provencal French restaurant at the end of the block from the store in Cleveland Park, Washington D.C. weather-permitting. That will be fun : I will have to bring a great bottle of wine to celebrate , maybe more than one. We will see. For now it's time to get some sleep and then see what tomorrow brings with the white snow and the rest of the weather ... whatever happens it will be grand!

I will finish this blog later. The bourbon whiskies were all well-received as I have already said. it's fun to have them in the store. I will talk more of them soon. Cheers, TONY
