Oregon Big-Theme Wine-Tasting ( BELLE VALLEE Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer & More ) May 12,th, Wed. 2010

It's a Big-Largely-Unknown event/happening at our store Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits ( 3423 Connecticut Avenue N.W. Washington D.C. 20008 Tel:202-363-4265 sales@clevelandparkwine.com www.clevelandparkwine.com ). We get the word out to many of our local customers and I bet if we could enlarge the circle of people knowing about it we could draw more of them here. Having said this it is otherwise always a resounding success and because it is not so large the people that come get a better chance to taste and ask questions of those pouring without thinking that they are too many chickens in a chickens coop!

Dmirti of Nice Legs as well as the owner of Nice Legs Selections were our featured guests this evening as they have such a broad range of great Oregon wines such as the JEZEBEL dry, rich white blend with just a bit extra fruit ( as well as the ever-popular Pinot Noir of theirs ), the KLEE elegant, refined, delicate bright red cherry fruit-flavors Pinot Noir and the more dark and thicker, bit deeper yet still quite elegant dry red blend. These and more were poured from the Nice Legs portfolio on this evening.

Dress was fun and relaxed and casual as always for these events.

Mark Congdon of JW SEIG WINES poured the wines of BELLE VALLEE Oregon which included an earthy and more old-world style Pinot Noir that was definitely best when served with a meal. It needed something to flesh-out it's flavors. It also represented a great value for Oregon Pinot Noir On Sale for $16.49. We are currently out and I will have to ask Mark if he has any more to sell us. Do you Mark?

It's now Saturday, August 13th, 2010 here at my home in northern Virginia at 9:11 AM and I am still on vacation and enjoying myself immensely. I am trying valiantly to get caught-up on all my blogs now that I have here on blogspot in their draft forms of many pictures but no text yet. But I am making some progress, slow but sure, steady but sure, like the famous tortoise in the childrens' stories.

Mark also poured an excellent dry Gewurztraminer ( or was it the Riesling? ) and Pinot Gris and an earthy dry red blend of the Bordeaux grapes that I quite liked once again. All these wines from BELLE VALLEE to me represent excellent values from Oregon. They also for me display the traits of the really good European wines that are always best when combined with a meal. They are dry and earthy, spicy and well-balanced wines that can take some age and which blossom and reveal more of their hidden charms in the context of a meal.

Mike and Harry above : two of our oldest and favorite customers here reunited probably after many years not having seen each other?

I am happy to say that we are selling to a much younger crowd these days that are interested in learning more about wines, beers, liquors, liqueurs and coming to taste and to listen and to overall be more open and experimentative. We appreciate this as we are enjoying sharing all that we can with anyone interested : period. Thanks for giving us the chance and the opportunity. See you at the next " Big Theme " Wine-Tasting which is coming up shortly in a few days on Wednesday, August 18th, 2010 ( 5:30-8:30 PM ) on Greek wines with Sotiris Bafitis as our featured guest from Nikolas Imports. Join us, never any charge : everybody welcome.

I will write more and fill more of the details in soon. In the meantime know that we sell these BELLE VALLEE wines here at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits and recommend them and if are out will be happy to order you more. Cheers and thanks Mark, Dmitri. Theresa,Chris, and others pouring for us this evening. We could not do these without your generous support of time, energy, expertise and of course samples to be poured of each of these thirty-thirty-five assorted wines that we pour during each Big Theme Wine-Tasting of ours.
