Friday, Nov. 6th, 2009 In-Store VOILA Selections Wine-Tasting W/Sotirs Bafitis/ Also : PERONI Italian Beer Tasting 5-8 PM

This was a lively Friday at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits with both a wine-tasting and an Italian PERONI berr-tasting as well.

We had Sotiris Bafitis come and pour some French selections from the VOILA portfolio that owner Olivia presented to us perhaps two-three years ago now? I can't remember exactly. Olivia and her husband bring us small batch of very carefully selected French country wines from many of the regions that get passed by the larger importers as too much work, too unknown, and with labels that must be hand-sold to gain them an audience with the general public.

They are of course of very high quality and excellent with food. Yes they have to be explained our tasted like we do here each weekend at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits and then they sell well : people picking the style that suits them or that works with their plans for the evening and their meals.

Sotiris and Olivia selected an excellent white Bergerac for us to taste made just a two-hour drive from the better known town of Bordeaux. It had some extra weight and complexity and was quite smooth.

WE also poured a Costieres de Nimes wine I believe - a red as well as a couple of others. I will get the bottles and include their names shortly once I get to work. I am home now on Tuesday morning, Nov. 17th, 2009 and about to start my work week after having enjoyed a lovely delayed weekend of sunshine, blue skies, warm weather and lots of raking and bagging of fall leaves.

We also had another PERONI Italian beer tasting this Friday. It was also very successful as every time a six-pack of the beer is sold each person gets a free PERONI mug to take home and enjoy. This is a great incentive to buying a beer that they already like or that they discover they like when they taste it here with us in the store.

Cheers, I will include more later as time permits. TONY

Enjoy these photos for now as they also paint a picture and tell a story all on their own.
