July 14th, 2009 BASTILLE DAY - Drink French Wine Like GERARD METZ Alsace Whites ; 2005's From PIERRE ANDRE Red Burgundy, CH. CALLAS Graves Bordeaux,

It's important to talk French wines, foods, things today. Earlier today I drank both some CHATEAU CALLAS Graves red 2005 Bordeaux as well as some PIERRE ANDRE Savigny Les Beaune 1er Cru 2005 red Burgundy. We will offer both at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits ( 3423 Connecticut Avenue N.W. Washington D.C. 20008 Tel: 202-36304265 sales@clevelandparkwine.com www.clevelandparkwine.com ) : and both will be ON SALE shortly.

Here we have our French winemaker of GERARD METZ, Alsace and two of our favorite customers in the store that just happened to stop by at the right time. I offered them a glass and made the introductions. It was a nice moment for us all.

I love the smile on the winemaker's face above. I also love the way that the camera and my glass of white wine distorted and played with the image of the musical note label in this picture.

Here are some pictures that I took and that I need to complete the story : fine French wine from Alsace with the the French winemaker here to taste the " new " vintages from his vineyard. Cheers, TONY

We sampled some excellent GERARD METZ Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Was there also a Sylvaner? I think so ... I really enjoyed these wines.

I had met the winemaker four years ago when Roger Turner brought him to us. We had a good time reminiscing about that in French.

We bought them then from Roger Turner who came to store and poured them for our customers. They sold well. We will bring some of them back now through our new importer and old friend Dan Terasa of William Harrison imports.

I think we only tasted whites though there is probably a Pinot Noir, too. Back when I met the Frenchman he was the assistant winemaker and here with these he is now the principle winemaker. He asked me how I found the wines now and how I compared them to the old ones? It was difficult for me so many years ago. I liked them then and I still like them now.

It's 11:53 PM and almost the end of Bastille Day so I will post this now and add more to it later.

Happy Bastille Day to one and to all ...

I love this angle that I got of the hand and the wine bottle being poured with all the labels on the table clearly visible. You never know because you cannot see what you are taking. You have to believe that with practice and training your artistic eye ( and with some blind luck ) that you will get an interesting picture or two. This one sure works for me : I'm amazed at how much with timing and practice and luck and snapping away all the time what I captured with this Canon camera. Fun, intriguing, amazing really ... I love it because you just never quite know ...
