GOTHAM South Australia- Outside Barossa - Winemaker- Owner, Bruce Visits Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits

This Stalking Horse pictured above was the clear favorite of Michael, Ed, Mike at this impromptu tasting here at Cleveland Park in our nation's capitol as we get ready to celebrate the 4th of July really soon.

Of course I need to write more about these wine being made in Langhorne Creek and the Mclaren Vale of South Australia. I did love the chocolate overtones in the 2008 McLaren Vale Merlot. It's sooooo smooth and friendly and forward and listens so well to my mood swings, rocking along with me the entire time almost as if I was i a cradle or swing outside strung between tow willow trees and connected by a lovely baby blue sky up high above , accented here and there with the smallest clean white puffy clouds to help fix one's gaze. They let the eyes rest and the mind settle momentarily both on the tastes of either the more firm, spiced Longhorne Creek 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon or pass onto the " pause " button of smooth toffee/coffee and chocolate that gently ripples over the whole length of one's tongue saturating it completely/kindly ...

My signature photograph has quickly become the winemaker/owner, his or her wine or label through the wine glass : heck, the world through the wine glass. Hope you like it.

Look at the colors of these wines - they draw me to them : with the labels behind them. I'm going for more artsy and expansive images with more room for interpretation. Hope you like them. Enlarge them here to see more of the image. It can pay off quite a bit ...

Below, pictured are the GOTHAM labels. Too bad they are not made in western Australia where Heath Ledger the actor is from since he just starred in his last movie , playing the Joker before his unfortunate/untimely death. We will miss you Heath : you were brilliant in that role , scaring the shit out of me ...

Just below the labels are the portraits through the glass of part-owner / winemaker here to luxuriate one's sense's - visual especially, over and over and over again ... I like parts of all of them. What would they look like of someone layered them, one on top of the other?!?

Winemaker , with his bottles to his right side on our tasting table explains his philosophy here.

Sal Furfari ( in the blue shirt two pictures up ) our Baachus rep brings us these GOTHAM wines that I predict will do very well and be really well-received by our D.C. metropolitan area customers.

Ed, one of our customers steps up to the plate to try some of these South Australia, Aussie wines and falls under their spell ...

Sal, pictured above pours for one of our customers. Thanks Sal for the assist!

Sal ( in the blue shirt ) multi-tasks and smiles as the winemaker tells him something ( above ).

Above, another good customer of ours, Michael ( also an amateur photographer ) tries these new GOTHAM wines and also enjoys them quite a bit.

As Mike Martin and I tasted I would draw customers over to meet both the winemaker/part owner and try his wines along with us. It's always fun and educational to get our customers opinions/reactions to the wines that we are thinking of bringing to Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits ( 3423 Connecticut Avenue N.W. Washington D.C. 20008 Tel : 202-363-4265 sales@clevelandparkwine.com www.clevelandparkwine.com )

Charles gets to try some of the wines here as well. We simply have a steady stream of regular customers that pass through to purchase their beers, liqours and wines and always stop and ask if we are tasting anything. When it is obvious that we are they gather round, eager to taste , learn and be inspired by whatever's happening at the moment at Cleveland Park. We are always most happy to share everything here.

We also tasted the PUPPETEER wines from South Australia and will bring some of those wines to the store soon. Stay-tuned for more. Cheers ...

Charles is not happy to discover that we do not have these wines already in the store to purchase! He would have bought one I believe on the spot and had it signed for Pam! Next time, now Charles ... we have some of the wines now. IT's Saturday, June 27th, 2009 ( at 12.07 PM ) as I type, check for typos and post this blog. I will add more soon, too ..

We have two of Bruce's wines now here in the store : the Merlot and the Cabernet, $14.49 : the GOTHAM McLaren Vale 2008 Merlot has lovely ovetones of chocolate and coffee whereas the Langhorne 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon has darker, spicier, a bit dustier fruit-berry flavors. Both are recommended, especially for these prices of under $15 a bottle.

Cheers, TONY
