Jayne Beaumont of BEAUMONT Winery ( www.beaumont.co.za, South Africa ) Here Tasting New Releases, Walker Bay Wednesday, Sept. 17th, 2008 With Theresa

It was great to have Jayne Beaumont of Walker Bay, South Africa back here in the store after three years. Her son Sebastian came to visit us on Saturday, October 28th, 2006 when he did an in-store tasting here with our customers. I have to find the photos from that tasting. That means that Theresa Morrison our importer/owner of BOUTIQUE Imports ( with husband John Morrison ) must have brought Jayne by originally in 2005 sometime.

It was great to see Jayne again and try through her whole range which includes two Chenin Blancs, one slightly-oaked the Hope Marguerite 2005,and one stainless-steel, one Pinotage 2004, one Shiraz 2003, a red blend - Raoul's " Old Basket Press " 2007, $16.49, a port-like wine, 2001 made from Cabernet Sauvignon, a dessert wine called " Goutte D'Or " in 37ml bottles, 2004 $28.99, and more! We will res-stock with these " new " vintages by the beginning of October. I really enjoyed them : stylish, polished and most of all balanced and food-friendly. We sell a lot of these wines because they complement so well meals. We just sold out of the Shiraz which we ran ON SALE for $21 a bottle , down from $30. That will return with the others like the  " Ariane " 2003 super-Bordeaux style liquid ruby velvet. There is something for everybody. I could drink lots of the unoaked Chenin Blanc and be perfectly happy. The bottles of " Old Basket Press " are here and signed by Jayne for gifts. Come check them out.

When Sebastian came in 2006 he won my heart so-to-speak when he commented that ours was the very best selection of South African wines that he had seen here in the U.S. on his two-week trip here. I will not soon forget that! Thanks Sebastian, that comment means a lot to me. He wrote : " Finally I got to a wine shop that starts to represent the diversity that South Africa can produce. Thank you Tony for your passionate support. I will be back! " signed Sebastian.

For more technical info on the wines go to: Campagnes Drift Farm, P.O. BOT RIVER 7185, South Africa Tel: 27 28 284 9194 fax: 27 28 284 9733  www.beaumont.co.za. When Jayne was here two days ago I discovered that like myself ( chatart.blogspot.com, chatpoetry.blogspot.com ) that is an artist. There is some of her excellent work represented on the web page. I loved the field of golds and reds, wow.

Here are some of the photos for you to enjoy. By the way, the " old Basket Press " is a flavorful yet really focused, medium-bodied red that is a Bordeaux blend ( five grapes : the two Cabs, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot ) and some Shiraz, too. Lovely. I poured some last night, a day-old and it was soooo Smmoooth! Sold some, too ; hard to resist those seductive red liquid tones that entertain the palate.

In downloading these pictures of Jayne's recent visit here with Theresa I scrolled upon some earlier ones ( 2006 ) that I took of importers, husband-and-wife team Theresa and John Morrison when they tasted a selection of South African wines from their portfolio which included Jane;s wines, too. I'm thrilled to offer the full range of the BOUTIQUE selection South African wines of John & Theresa. They go for the small, hand-crafted, limited production wines where quality is never an issue, only whether this or that wine appeals to your own personal palate and tastes/mood, too. It all factors in there somewhere.

     Cheers,   TONY
