Ithier BOUCHARD Winemaker/Directeur Commercial of DOMAINE TARIQUET Gascogne, France Here Friday, Sept. 12th, 2008

It was great to have Ithier Bouchard here from Gascogny's DOMAINE TARIQUET ( P. Grassa Fille Et Fils , tel: 33 (0) 5 62 09 87 82  www.tariquet.com ) Bas Armagnac ) to taste his excellent five dry whites,  all from 2007. The Grassa family are proprietaire/recoltants : owners and bottlers-harvesters of their own wine. They make fabulous armagnac which we also sell here at Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits ( 3423 Conn. Ave. N.W. Washington D.C. 202-363-4265, www.clevelandparkwine.com ) of which we have three : the Classique, $27.99 and the VSOP, $66.99 and the Napolean, $99.99 starting at around $26 a bottle. We only got the whites in last year around June/July as I recall. The whites did really well and we sold many cases of these assorted five flavors : the  dry Ugni Blanc/ Colombard, $9.99, the Sauvignon Blanc, $9.99, the Chardonnay, $9.99, the blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, $10.99 and the really fancier, more thick, rich, lush - OPULENT " Cote Tariquet ", $12.99.

All of Grassa's wines made by Ithier are bright, forward, balanced, elegant expressions of each grape and their soil/terroir. This is our second year with them and they really do please and deliver for these very modest prices, especially when you consider how week the US dollar is now.

Ithier was here tasting his whites alongside wine owner Giuseppe Vaira of the Vajra winery in Piemonte, Italy. Giuseppe tasted his reds : a Rosso red blend, a Dolcetto, a Nebbiolo and a Barolo 2003, $52.99 a bottle that pretty much sang sweet lullabies inside your ear! It was fun, French whites and Italian reds : something for everyone.

Ithier had to leave abruptly because of a scheduling conflict and I was unable to say " adieu " to him. I wrote him and he responded immediately. He loved his short tasting here and I think he will be back here on his next visit and spend more time with you all. Here are the pictures I took of the tasting. We have all the wines here for sale so give us a call at : 202-363-4265 and ask for either Mike or me ( Tony ) and we will be glad to help you.

I have to download the rest of the pictures and they will appear soon in the next entry. Sorry. Cheers,   TONY
